Lee's Taiwanese

Having been away from her hometown for 20 years, Taiwanese owner Fiona Lee missed the true Taiwanese flavor that she was never able to find anywhere locally. That homesickness inspired her to introduce to Singapore the genuine, authentic taste of delicious street fare back from her hometown. The concept behind Leeā€™s Taiwanese is the famous and very busy Keelung Temple Street night market. With a variety of popular Taiwanese street fare such as Braised Minced Meat Rice, Pig Intestines Vermicelli, Spicy Beef Noodles and even cold desserts like Red Bean Ice and Yam Ice, Leeā€™s Taiwanese is a candid model of the Keelung night market right here. The authenticity of Leeā€™s recipes traces right down to its ingredients; home-made gravies and broth; hand-made dumplings and prawn cakes, even sauces are imported from Taiwan to ensure that the Taiwanese flavor is uncompromised. Come down to Leeā€™s Taiwanese if you wish to experience the authentic Taiwanese flavor that is bound to delight your taste buds!

To be honest, I have always been craving for Railway Bento even when I'm in Taiwan. Their Railway Bento is of a big portion and I'm kind of surprised. The plate of Bento Meal comprises of one gigantic slab of pork chop coated with sweet-savoury dark sauce, braised eggs, sliced Tau Gua, greens and pickles.

The dark sauce given was so generous that it may be overpowering its taste and too salty to go without the white rice but for the portion at the price paid, this is indeed tempting.

Beef Noodle: 4.5/5
Highly recommended!! Very flavourful! The noodle is not ā€œnuaā€. Like the way it was served.

Soy bean paste noodle: 4.5/5
Enjoyed this dish and will definitely order it again! The look of it wasnā€™t v attractive but the taste was pretty unique! This dish might come across as a little bland for people who prefers more flavourful dishes.

Fried Chicken Cutlet: 4.5/5
Highly recommended! Dish was served first so we ate it while it was piping hot. Very flavourful and crispy! As our noodles came, we left it aside till we finished our main dish. Surprisingly it was still as good! Was still warm and delicious šŸ˜‹

Century egg tofu: 3.5/5
Not unique/special but was good. Cold and light dish.

Always in the mood for some comforting Taiwanese food, I have since visited Leeā€™s Taiwanese a handful of times. And they have proven to be a solid lunch spot before hopping next door to Gelato Labo for dessert when I am at Faber Drive!

Getting the best of both worlds, Leeā€™s Signature Rice ($10.80) is a great choice for those who are undecided or want to sample their braised minced pork rice and their salt & pepper chicken in a single platter. Savoury and surprisingly light, the braising liquid for the minced pork was nicely balanced and tasted very homey with the hints of aromatic spices. The pork was also melty soft and had a good ratio of fat to lean meat. Seasoned perfectly, the crunchy salt & pepper chicken was fried to a beautiful golden brown. The batter was not too thick as well and the meaty chunks simply hit the spot.

If you canā€™t get enough of their lurou and need a more substantial portion when comparing to Lee's Signature Rice, you should just order their Braised Minced Pork Rice ($6.80). A very hearty and satisfying bowl, the tender meat is served together with pickles and strips of dou gan which provided that extra boost of texture. The tangy and gentle acidity of the pickles helping to cut the richness of the braised pork as well. Top up $4.80 to make it a set with the sweet winter melon tea and a side of vegetables!

Must try:
- Beef noodle
- Chicken cutlet
- Chives dumpling
