Spent our new year’s eve yesterday in Leeter Tunku Kopitiam’s lovely cozy space tucked in Grassroots Book Room. Had an ice rambutan tea and this pumpkin swissroll that we enjoyed very much - it was fluffy soft, with a super light cream and a mild pumpkin sweetness. Came with a side of orange jam that lent a zesty tang. Their bakes are on rotation, so pop by for a surprise on what’s available that day. Also, the internet signal’s pretty poor as they’re in a corner, but that’ll encourage you to set your phone aside and focus on the food and conversations!

The Little Prince Cafe/Creamery is back yet again; this time with a local twist in its name being the Leeter Tunku Kopitiam, and taking over the former premises of now-defunct Katasumi Kohli at Grassroots Book Room situated along Bukit Pasoh Road — the menu for now comprising of both coffee, tea and non-caffeinated beverages, as well as waffles and roll cakes for those who are looking for a sweet treat to go alongside their beverage.

The Matcha Roll Cake comes with Azuki amidst the cream — the roll cake being sufficiently moist and fluffy whilst perfuming of a bitter undertone that is often associated with the Japanese tea. Liked how the cream was light and smooth, while the Azuki helps to add an earthy note to the cake — a classic flavour combination of red bean and matcha without being overly sweet. Felt that the additional serving of whipped cream was a tad unnecessary; the cake already coming with sufficient cream and the additional whipped cream being overly whipped; a little mushy and airy.

It’s interesting how The Little Prince Cafe/Creamery makes it re-appearance into the F&B scene after every couple of years — this iteration being the revival of the brand with a local touch (the ice-cream which comes with the waffles is served in an entire rectangular slab; the same way one would expect from the ice-cream uncle selling them out of the motorbike — full with two wafer biscuits sticking out of the block of ice-cream). Whether Leeter Tunku Kopitiam will be seen as a successor to the now-defunct Katasumi Kohii remains to be seen, but here’s another chance for those who have yet to visit the various iterations of The Little Prince Cafe/Creamery over the years ...
