The broth here was too.. clean-tasting. None of that rich, umami / sweetness one would expect from prawn mee. And while $9.90 is definitely pricey, it comes with a side of delicious prawn paste spare ribs that was juicy, tender albeit a tad oily; and the two prawns were quite huge.

While price tag is on the steeper side but the prawn noodles here is good. Springy noodles, fresh prawns; thought the broth is quite well balanced with a slight sweetness to it!

Enjoyed this! Noodles were springy, flavourful and less greasy than I remembered.

Fish soup was creamy, sweet and very tasty, pretty sure Chinese wine was added..? Quite a decent portion, fish was fresh as should be and the fried fish’s batter isn’t tooooo thick! Comes also with tofu 🙂

Haven’t had this in awhile! The charsiew was not overly sweet, sinfully fatty but so darn shiok, caramelisation gave it a nice crisp char; the siewyoke was very crispy and chicken was juicy and tender. The rice was fragrant, surprisingly good and fluffy though a tad oily. Comes with half an egg and braised tofu!

Another old school kopitiam. The refillable soup here is peppery, pork tastes fresh with a good bite!

Had this on a sweltering sunny day but this comforting bowl of pig organ soup (Small, $4.20) would’ve been perfect in this cold gloomy weather.

Am not particularly discerning and haven’t had this for so long, so I can never remember which is the ‘better’ soup. Anyhooooo, I did enjoy this. No kidney for the small bowl so if you enjoy it (not a fan so it’s no go for me), get the large bowl!

Fresh offals with no funkiness, lean meat was tender but my only gripe was that the liver was slightly too powdery. The soup was well-balanced; robust but not overly salty. Loved the addition of salted vegetables and soft tofu!

Soft carrot cake with some wokhei-charred bits for that contrasting crisp texture, and a good balance of sweet/ salty with generous amount of caipoh within. Will probably add on more egg next time but we loved it!

This was once a happy discovery from Grabfood. We had been exercising a wee bit of self control on not ordering it every week because it isn’t the healthiest of choice. Now I have one more reason to not order it and get my lazy ass out because.. the price of convenience is almost double😂.

Prices start at $4 if you’re eating at the food court, and I think it’s pretty worth the satisfaction. The fried chicken thigh ($5.50) is incredibly crispy and fragrance from the spices with tumeric and a distinct lemongrass flavour, while the insides were tender and juicy! And the rice - we prefer the nasi dagang for its texture, but the steam rice is equally good because it’s so fluffy and lemak.

For sides, our go-to is the Sambal Assam Sotong ($3) which usually tastes very fresh with a good bite (this round seemed to be an off day or perhaps I was a little late for dinner, as it was slightly more rubbery but it’s the first time it happened). It isn’t too spicy (may be disappointing for those who’re looking for more heat), with the addition of pineapples for sweetness. The other would be their curry mutton ($3) which are just tender cubes of delishness, and it’s not too gamey.

The mildly sour yet refreshing achar helps to cut through the richness of the dish, and the sambal balacan really packs a punch. Ambitiously mixed it with my rice and I’ve never, purposely, added it again😂 But spicy-lovers should like this!

Quite eggy and the top is extra crispy! (If you don’t like it crisp just let them know) Kueh was soft, quite liked this except it was a little too salty when I had it and no caipoh😂. Chili is shiooook.

Maddie’s Kitchen is a casual eatery with homely, affordable good food in town!

Seafood White Beehoon (Prawns & Lala $6.80-S) was decent, ingredients were fresh and there were bits of crisp fried lard. Portion seemed to be rather huge (possibly enough for 2 small eaters if you’re planning to get side dishes?). Enjoyed the french bean with minced pork ($8.80) because the dried shrimps (?) made it so darn fragrant.
Lor bak ($4) was also flavourfully braised and tender while proportion of egg vs starch of the oyster omelette ($10.80) was just right with very crisp sides. We don’t eat oysters (I KNOW), but they kindly changed to 2 giant prawns for us! There’s also prawn omelette on the menu but if I’m not wrong, it doesn’t have the starchy portion thus I tried my luck with the request😂. The accompanying chilli was shiok too! Bet the oyster version would have been fantastic.

The seafood soup was comfortingly tasty, though not as savoury as the other seafood soup that opened in Far East Plaza too - but I liked how sweet and clean tasting this was. There were mock abalone, fish maw, lala, crunchy prawns, fish slices, meatballs and vegetables, etc.

Portions of the dishes we ordered was pretty good for the price and of quality, fresh ingredients. Will be back to try the hainanese curry rice too.

Curry was flavorful but thought it was rather mild on the spiciness. The pork chop here was delish, classic local hainanese style where the sauce is a tad sweet, could be more crisp but it was fine after all the sauces and definitely juicy! Chapchye was soft and tasty, and I really enjoyed the sotong - very fresh with a nice bite but not overly chewy. Definitely will be back to brave the queue 😗
