I first got to taste this "Noble Stuff"—on tap, of course—at an Augustiner beer hall in Germany back in May 2013, and it became my favourite beer from anywhere in the world (thus far). I've since spent the past two-and-a-half years searching and wondering if I would ever find it outside of its home country, with no luck… until now. I happened to be in the vicinity with a friend and they suggested for us to pop into German Market Place (I had somehow never noticed it before) while waiting for another friend to meet us. After checking out most of the store, I went over to the alcoholic beverages section, curious to see what they had stocked. There on the bottom shelf, I spotted a familiar logo on some brown bottles… and it indeed turned out to be Augustiner Edelstoff! (Augustiner brews a number of varieties of beer but, as I found out later, apparently only exports specifically Edelstoff.) I now know where to get my fix, at least until I revisit Bavaria hopefully sometime in the near future!
pisco, golden falernum, lime juice, grapefruit juice, grapefruit and ginger foam to top; by Simon Fresco, bartender at København's Restaurant KUL;
(This was the last Pisco Sour of Simon's guest bartending shift at Tess!)
The next best thing to being in a pub in Dublin. And because it's St. Patrick's Day.
