For the final course, I could not resist getting the poached pear. It may be old fashioned, but when done right, is one of my favourite desserts. I'm happy they used quality vanilla bean gelato, and the Myer's dark rum infused sauce was fragrant with warm spice and cinnamon, but the pear was still a little crunchy and would have benefited from a few more minutes of poaching.

Their Spaghetti Aglio Olio won’t garner any points for authenticity, it’s tailored for local tastes, with an overpoweringly garlicky profile and some heat from bird's eye chilli. Fortunately for me, I like garlic. There's a generous portion of prawns and squid, which makes the dish quite hearty.

I never say no to fried chicken, so the Spicy Wings were a no-brainer. Thickly coated in seasoned crunchy batter, deep-fried and piping hot within, these hit the spot for me.

I never tire of this simple classic that's both healthy as well as tasty. Strips of thinly sliced steak and capsicum cooked to sizzling tenderness on a hotplate, served with soft tacos for you to wrap the fillings in to your liking.

Considering the mains are all the same price, this is by far the most value-for-money dish at Cuba Libre. The generous portions of meaty grouper were cooked very well and nicely complemented by a light butter lemon sauce. Asparagus and roasted potatoes - very traditional pairings with fish - round off the dish nicely.

This was a stupendously hefty piece of meat for a single person, so it would be perfect shared, especially with a whole bowl of potato wedges on the side. It might just have been an off-day, but I found the slow-roasted pork a little dry. A larger amount of chimichurri or some sauce to go along with the meat could have alleviated that situation easily.

An unique combination you'll not likely find elsewhere, this tropical treat of
roasted braised boneless chicken thigh marinated in a tangy rum reduction and topped with mango salsa will tantalise the tastebuds with its sweet and savoury flavour profile.

Steeped in a decadent cream sauce further enriched by an oozy onsen egg, the broad sheets of tagliatelle were the perfect vehicle for flavour ,and the crunch of the black fungus the perfect foil to the sauce's richness.

While my starter was a flop, the main more than made up for it. A most chunky cut of tender ribeye - perfectly cooked to a medium rare - was served with a flavoursome peppercorn pan sauce and a mountain of crisp truffle shoestring fries snowed over with a flurry of grated parmesan.

If steak's not your thing, the $25 2-course set dinner also gives you the choice of Angus beef brisket, grilled red snapper, onsen egg & black fungus tagliatelle, prawn and crab meat aglio olio, or salmon and sun-dried tomato.

The newly revamped Awfully Chocolate Bakery & Cafe looks pretty swish right now, and along with its shiny new interior also comes a pretty sweet 2-course set dinner for a pocket-friendly price of $25.

They have a fairly wide range of starters and mains to choose from, including Singapore borscht, warm camembert & pear salad, grilled cauliflower salad, wild mushroom soup and a French onion soup. I love a good French onion, but unfortunately this one missed the mark. Whilst the abundance of caramelised onions in a pleasingly rich broth was texturally sumptuous, the over liberal use of salt made it near undrinkable. At least the cheese crostini was decent.

This is crab in a bag turned on its head and by Zeus I'm digging it! Instead of runny sauce, 800 heaping grams of seafood critters - crab, soft shell crab, prawns and battered fish are tossed in and deep-fried with an aromatic and crispy scallop hae bee hiam dry mixture that's fiery and umami. I enjoyed it so much I requested for a spoon to better shovel more into my face hole. Curiously, there was nasi lemak flavoured popcorn in the mix too. My brain told me that it shouldn't work, but it did, its faint coconut-y sweetness and crunch interspersed between the salty and spicy notes.

Ultra-crunchy batter smothered in a Yangnyeom-eque sauce encases piping hot and juicy chicken wings, a nice little poultry prelude before our seafood feast at Dancing Crab. Some of the the drumettes were a little bloody, but nothing to be too worried about.
