Café Hopping
1 of the 5 rice bowls on Bread Yard’s menu - Norwegian Salmon Bowl that came with a bed of brown rice, creamy smashed avocado, broccoli, pramesan, garlic bread stick, cherry tomatoes, baked salmon and a side dip of basil pesto. This was our way of making our brunch a tad bit healthier amongst the cruffins and french toast 😂 Was a decent healthy bowl, though the garlic bread stick wasn’t as crunchy as we thought it would be and didn’t seem to go with the dish as a whole. Salmon was tender. Had this 1 for 1 with Burpple Beyond, and they’ve changed the deal to 20% off mains now.
Can’t get over the brioche sandwiches & super solid (+ huge) cups of hot chocolate from Lowef! Been back a few times to this cozy spot and it always guarantees a satisfying meal with their fluffy, creamy scrambled eggs and perfectly toasted brioche pullman that’s crisp outside and buttery soft inside.
The Eggstatic Set comes with an Eggstatic Brioche ($5.50) that you can top up with several ingredients like Bacon ($2) and Honey Bakes Ham ($1), and coffee/tea/milk/juice, or other drinks with an additional $2. I topped up for a cup of their Cocoa No. 1 hot chocolate that I absolutely enjoyed. It’s just really fab and honest food that you can tell they’ve put lots of love into! Can’t wait to try the other items on the menu.
Pivot’s Tamago Sando has homemade egg mayo and a sous vide egg between shokupan bread. Was a tad bit disappointed that the bread wasn’t as fluffy and as toasted as well as we hoped for. Props to the homemade mayo though, it was well seasoned and not too rich.
New breakfast menu at KARA! Avocado toasts are usually not my first pick, but theirs was done so nicely that it was easily our unanimous favourite that day. Looked simply like a sourdough topped with mashed avocado, a sunny-side up and kale chips, but the sourdough was actually done like a grilled cheese sandwich! They also added corn into the thick avocado mash which gave that extra fun touch of sweetness alongside the savoury cheesiness. Found the dishes more on the pricey side though, but they’re on Burpple Beyond now too for some items.
Thank you @karacafesg for having us & @burpple for the kind invite! ✨
Had a very hearty brunch with this DIY option! Decided on the sourdough, scrambled eggs, thick cut bacon, sautéed mushrooms and baked portobello. Was an enjoyable plate with everything seasoned nicely, especially both mushrooms! Only gripe was that the bacon was a tad dry and tough.
The portion was definitely substantial but if you’re looking for even more or perhaps for sharing, you can get additional 2 greens and 1 meat with the Breakfast Royale at $25.
Friend’s pick was the ricotta sourdough toast! Came with guacamole, avocado, ricotta, poached eggs, roasted tomatoes and dukkah.
Not the super smooth sort in terms of texture, but we quite enjoyed it. Truffle flavour wasn’t super strong but not too bad!
Haven’t had a cafe brunch in a long time! Lovely space here at Five Oars and we really enjoyed their food. This hearty Mentaiko Mac & Cheese is listed as a side on the menu, but works nicely as a main too. Mac was al dente and what we liked best was the cheese’s richness + the lightly charred layer of mentaiko sauce on top. They added in small chunks of prawns and roe as well which gave extra texture. Saw pictures of this mac as a main in the past and those look even better! Hope they’ll reintroduce that option in future.
Our original reservation was at 10+am, but we ended up leaving to return at noon for their bigger lunch menu. Went straight for this Pork and Pear Tartine and enjoyed it! It was a well-thought out dish - crunchy ciabatta bread topped with a generous portion of caramelised onions, roasted pears, bacon and ricotta. Bread was so nicely toasted and crunchy, and you get a medley of flavours from sweetness, savouriness to a subtle earthiness. That said, it’s best to share as it can get a little sweet if you’re having this all on your own.
Apollo uses farro grains for their risottos. This one came with miso bacon, oyster mushrooms, fried enoki and an oozy egg. The crispy bits of bacon especially, were a smart savoury touch! Pricey, but we did enjoy the earthiness and good bite.
This was like a platter of all the breakfast items - bacon, breaded parmesan tomato, spinach, sautéed mushrooms, sausage, scrambled eggs and a slice of toasted sourdough. Scrambled eggs tasted a little more like an omelette but I didn’t mind it.
Communal Coffee’s on Burpple Beyond for 1 for 1 mains. Thank you @communalcoffeesg for having us and @burpple for the invite! ✨
Every first weekend (Fri to Sun) of the month, Paddy Hills rolls out their buffet menu for two dinner seatings - 6pm to 8pm and 8pm to 10pm. There were 17 dishes on their menu this time round (check their Insta for more updates) from appetisers to mains, sides, barbecue and sweets. Liked that they minimised all the portions, which also meant you’d have more space to try out more. The two of us managed to finish everything on the menu!
We had some hits and misses in our dinner. Don’t think we’ll come back again soon but it’s also not bad a chance to try out some of their popular dishes like the Hei Rice, Truffle Capellini and Signature Berry Ball. Service was friendly and quick, even though not all the dishes were served as hot. Our favs were the fresh creamy Oysters with Grape Bubbles, crispy and rich PH Salted Egg Yolk Wings and chocolate-y Homemade Double Fudge Brownie that’s served with a beer milkshake.
