I first tried the dry laksa from Jelebu Dry Laksa at the recent Singapore Food Festival (SFF), and thought that it was really yummy! So I was quite excited to check out their recently opened permanent space at VivoCity.

The one dish that really stood out for us was the Duck Confit with Teochew Braised Risotto, which is an elevated take on traditional duck rice with braised eggs. The duck confit comes together with creamy risotto and sous vide eggs, and the best way to enjoy it is to mix everything with the chilli for a flavour bomb! I personally felt the Jelebu Dry Laksa with Grilled Tiger Prawns ($18), while still pretty yummy, fared better during my initial try at SFF.

We visited KOAL by Les Amis Group recently to try their set lunch. It’s a 3-course set and you get a choice of 1 starter, 1 rice bowl (includes Japanese rice, onsen egg & shredded nori) & 1 dessert. Here’s what we got:

~Burrata Salad, US Rib Eye, Hojicha & Whiskey Tiramisu ($42)
~Beef & Tofu, Grassfed Rib Eye, Freshly Fried Donut ($30)

Can’t really pick a favourite between both of our rice bowls, as both beef steaks were executed really well - nicely charred, with good textures and delectable flavours! We enjoyed the starters we chose too, both the Burrata Salad and Beef & Tofu were refreshing! As for desserts (not pictured), I liked the Hojicha & Whiskey Tiramisu, which is a nice twist on the classic tiramisu; we felt the filling could have been more generous in the Freshly Fried Donut.

All in, the set lunches are reasonably priced for the quality and portions you get! Their set lunch is available every Tuesday to Sunday from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

Celebrated my birthday here at Bread Street Kitchen recently and the highlight was of course their signature Beef Wellington! Taste wise, it certainly met my expectations, as it tasted as good as I thought it would be! The pastry was crisp and flaky, while the beef was done to a perfect medium rare. The red wine sauce amplified the overall dish too! This paired well with the sides that came alongside it - truffle brie mashed potato & glazed carrots!

This is their most popular dish that almost everyone orders here - fried chicken served with cheddar cheese waffles and spiced watermelon. The chicken overall was well-seasoned, moist and tender! Even the breast part (which I’m usually not a fan of) wasn’t dry at all! Love the spiced watermelon too, which was a nice food chaser containing some heat from the spices. The waffles weren’t that memorable though, nothing much to shout about.

We decided to go big or go home, so we ordered this! This is the most decadent version of m&c I’ve had so far - whole lobster laying on a bed of elbow macaroni tossed in a 5-cheese sauce! The taste was exactly what we expected it to be - the lobster meat was fresh, sweet and succulent, while the m&c was rich and creamy (although it got a little jelak midway through)!

This was yummy! The chicken was tender and grilled perfectly. Full-bodied flavour thanks to the Peruvian red pepper marinade. Really enjoyable to have it with tortillas, along with jalapeño, onion, pepper cheese mayo & cilantro!

This is part of a lunch set that comes with Pickles, Hokkaido Corn Soup & Seasonal Fruits.

Nothing too spectacular, just a really solid bowl of fried tempura with steamed white rice. Each individual tempura was well fried and the items include tiger prawn, cherry blossom shrimp, onion, & avocado. There was also a soft-cooked egg right on top. Everything was generously drizzled with a sweet and savoury sauce too.

A nice refreshing appetiser to have before the mains! You get octopus ceviche marinated in leche de tigre and white corn that’s eaten together with flatbread. It certainly opened up our appetites for the mains!

It’s Grand Hyatt Singapore’s 50th anniversary and to celebrate, Executive Chef Gottfried Schuetzenberger has created 2 anniversary menus (Lunch at $50++ and Dinner from $68++) from now till 30 November 2021 at mezza9 and Pete’s Place. The menus showcase beloved dishes that were once served at the hotel’s former restaurants: Nutmegs, Hugo’s and Branningan’s.

For the special dinner menu at Pete’s Place, we each got to enjoy Beef Carpaccio w Rocket, Shaved Parmesan Cheese, Balsamic & Lemon (so savoury and fresh!), Mushroom Soup w/ Black Truffle & Walnut-Bread Croutons (really comforting and loved the earthy truffle aroma), Cioppino Alla Pete’s Place (really hearty seafood with pasta - I’d recommend adding on Salmon Caviar ($15++) for an extra burst of flavour!) and a delectable dessert - Baba w/ Cherry Jubilee, Cherry Flambee & Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (great end to the meal!). Overall, we felt this is very worth it for the food quality and the price you’re paying.

To top off our meal, we had a refreshing glass of Tropical Itch ($12++/glass; available at mezza9 too)! It’s a signature cocktail from Brannigan’s that’s back as part of the 50th anniversary menu specials. Finally, would love to give a special shout-out to Tango & team too for their excellent service that night!

Had a good hearty dinner with my foodie friends recently at San Low Restaurant, a relatively new Tze Char stall located at Geylang Lorong 7.

The standout dish for me personally was the White Pepper Crab, which was packed full of umami flavour, and not too overpowering at the same time. They use only live crabs here, which explained why the crab meat tasted so fresh and sweet! Highly recommended!

Recently had dinner at The Gallery Bistro, which is the latest dining concept by Saveur Group. I really liked the ambience here (definitely a good place to bring your date), and as for the food my favourite (out of the few dishes we had) was the Salmon w/ Citrus Cream & Asparagus. The salmon was tender with a crispy skin, while the citrus cream added a nice refreshing touch!

I was genuinely surprised by how good this dish tasted! This was a really refreshing appetizer, perfect for sharing!
