Underwhelming
Again, lacking in flavor for the sauce and overall cohesiveness of the dish. Saving grace is the generous amount of duck and I love pappardelle! Sigh, hate to feel like a pasta snob, but I can hardly find good pastas in non Italian joints. 😓
Not something I’ll recommend for sure. Quite a regular forgettable pasta dish. On a better note, they are generous with the ingredients and the combination of prawn and chorizo definitely works. However, I find the overall dish to be in dire lack of flavor and the sauce keeps “slipping off” like it is a separate element and not melded with the pasta. Order only if you have an intense pasta craving you have to satisfy.
Squid, mackerel, prawns marinated in a rich, aromatic spice mix with coconut milk, wrapped and steamed in banana leaf. Although there are many ingredients in the otah, I find that the consistency is off as it does not hold up well, not to mention lacking in flavor
One of the interesting small plates that caught my eye. It was a great filler for the night, I was craving for okonomiyaki and this was perfect. I must say this dish really pales in comparison to the sashimi Ceviche abt the tofu seafood. It left me disappointed.
The Mung bean taste was rather absent. Granted, I had no benchmark for comparison. The pancake had a soft chewy texture, but it did not come with that nice crisp flavor you’ll expect with your kimchi pancake. And the kimchi taste is very subdued given that it was blended in not the batter.
I do enjoy crab and kimchi, definitely more separately. I find myself grappling to understand and accept this combination
Unpretentious place with labels from boutique wine producers across the globe aims to provide a hide out where one can be enjoy the wide selection of wines paired with the plates of elevated local favorites. They even have a walk in cellar! Intended to be affordable and no frills for friends to hang out and have a good time, a glass of wine starts from $6 and bottles from $25.
1. Pork and seafood bite (Hei Zou) - $12
Probably the best dish of the night.
2. Crab wanton and spicy vinaigrette - $12
Filling contains blue swimmer crab, prawns and cuttlefish. Served with ginger and black vinegar. Skin was way too thick, and too doughy and hard to get through.
3. Grilled eggplant with shiitake mushrooms, quinoa salad, spicy soya bean paste and lemon vinaigrette - $18
Interesting combination with an overall mushy texture with all the components.
4. Roast pork belly, served with achar & mustard - $24
Too fatty for our liking.
5. Laksa mussels- $18
Not the best mussels but the dish was saved by the punchy laksa broth.
6. Black pepper crab noodle - $18
The only thing I liked abt the dish is the deep fried soft shell crab. Noodle was soggy and lacking in black pepper taste.
7. Kaya toast, cinnamon butter toast, kaya anglaise, Guatemala coffee ice cream - $12
8. Teh C, lavender earl grey ice cream, popping candy, crunchy chocolate pearls - $8
Overall, I like the concept and the feel of the place but i got to say the quality of the food is rather disappointing. Nothing was mind blowing or amazing for that matter. Even the desserts were passable at best. Was really hyped up about this place before I came. Now, I’m wondering if this place is worth a revisit.
Most part of the vermicelli was dry, lacking in sauce/broth, the kind that keeps the vermicelli moist. Did not find this dish particularly flavorful, no crustacean flavor and the truffle scent was too subtle to make an impact. The critical saving grace was perhaps the perfectly cooked tender lobster.
With double smoked bacon and red wine jus. Did not appreciate how it was soaked in the jus, making the Sprout lose it’s crisp. Most of them ended up being more oily than anything else causing it to be rather cloying and a poor accompaniment to my meal. Must say I’m a huge huge Brussel Sprouts fan, and this is truly just disappointing.
Tofu with Sichuan dressing that was not punchy enough (totally did not get the peppercorn profile), grilled king brown mushrooms, cashew nuts. Found the flavor of the dish to be quite flat and the tofu is not as firm as I would have preferred.
Scotch egg was wrapped with falafel, interesting for a change, though lacking in flavor on it’s own and slightly dry. The tabouli, yogurt, lemon & cucumber is light and refreshing on the other hand.
Disappointed to see the limp sliced beef instead of the beef steak. Was told by the staff that the menu has changed and they were no longer using beef steak for Ushi. No truffle taste as well. Not great. If I had known better, I would have headed to Rakki Bowl (down the lane) to get my fix of truffle beef bowl
Hearty main option that is brimming with generous chunks of seafood. What is disappointing here is the lack of a good socarrat - the crust that forms at the base of the pan. I like this in paella as it gives off a subtle Smokey In fact, the consistency of the rice felt a lot more like risotto 😅
Not your usual mushy croquette with mashed potato filling. The croquettes are filled with shredded pork chunks and had an overall dense texture. It was somewhat dry, but greatly enhanced with the pickled beetroot and herb mayonnaise
