Kimchi Korean Restaurant serves relatively smaller portions to cut down on food wastage and to leave you feeling just satisfied - not overly stuffed. With smaller portions, you can also expect more affordable prices! Serving standard dishes like Japchae and Kimchi Ramen, they also have unique offerings like Seaweed Beef Porridge and Seafood Dolsot Bap. A must-try is the Andong Jjimdak, steamed pieces of chicken thigh marinated in a soy-based sauce - gloriously spicy and full of umami. You can overlook the fact that they do not serve banchan here, because that means more stomach space for dessert.
Durian Creme Brulee. Salted Egg Fries. These are all the reasons you need to pay The Quarters a much-needed visit. Located in Icon Village at Enggor Street, they take inspiration from local Asian flavours to create exciting and unique mod-sin (Modern Singapore) dishes. A sucker for salted-egg-yoke anything will HAVE to order the crispy fries with salted egg yolk dip, and of course, don't leave without first trying their signature durian creme brulee - with smooth, creamy Mao Shan Wang durian custard that's so, so satisfying.

Flavour Flings is a brand new heartland cafe located in Hougang, bringing hearty brunch servings to residents and everyone else in the area. Recycled-wood furnishings give this place a very laid-back vibe, perfect for casual brunch affairs. Menu items include eggs done in a variety of ways - poached/ baked/ fried, pastas as well as pancakes. Tastemaker Raine Liu recommends Marie's Baked Eggs; 'tomato based eggs with mushrooms and spinach and cheese which went well with the toasted sour dough bread.'
We love the Tomyam Wanton Mee here, the noodles texture is great and has a fiery tomyam kick! Noodles are priced at $5 each, there are also pork trotters rice for the big appetite.
Had 100 sticks by myself yesterday! Awesome soup!
Tired of stale, limp, oily kosongs that totally don't hit the spot? That's cos so many places in Singapore now use prata dough that comes premade and from an evil cardboard box. If you want the real deal, this is the place. Small but superbly crispy plain pratas that you can't stop eating, dunked in glorious fish curry, or sambal if you prefer. This will satisfy any prata craving you have. Photo by Joyz X.
With no distinct signboard and a snaking long queue under a HDB block, you know you've found something special. Having taken over from their father's stall, these brothers run a tight ship at Blk 17 Beach Rd, doling out packet after packet of briyani as people order takeaway in the dozens. If you've got the time, sit and enjoy your tender mutton and amazing gravy... this is a serious briyani. Photo by Jayne Tan
Decent and affordable French food!
Decent and affordable French food!
At $3, this wonton mee comes with at least 5 wontons and the stall owner gives generous portions of char siew along with the green veggies and makes sure you leave with a full stomach. Personally, I love the sauces he use and also their unique blend of chili, before national service I would drop by this stall every day before it go for my part time job. One side though, that the uncle shows so much dedication in his noodles to make every bowl right he can take up to 5 minutes to serve that one bowl of noodles. I have tried waiting 45 minutes for it during peak hours. I recommend to have a try during the off peak hours and it will be still as good!
