Close up of the $8 big prawn noodles (soup)!
Standards are back! The previous time we had it the prawn broth was not fresh not sweet, but overly oily. So glad they are back on track again, and for an affordable $8, be prepared to feast on fresh 'red-feet' (angka) prawns that are sea-bred and thus have that distinct sweetness to it. Fingerlickin good! Don't forget to slurp up the broth that is overflowing with prawn roe!
Queued so long for this Rojak! Supposedly reputed to be one of the best in Singapore, but we found its taste only so-so, as it was lacking the oomph of a distinct prawn paste taste. Wouldn't sacrifice another 30mins for this again!
Complete it with a bowl of plain old fluffy warm rice, marvel and behold at this amazing bowl of freshness: thick slices of mackerel fish (batang), firm tofu and amazing roe that curled up beautifully within the clear soup for just an additional dollar.
My usual indulgence of seafood with fish roe, but the servings are getting smaller (think small prawns, thin slices of fish that break apart when taken up, and miserable thin hard cuts of sotong) and pricier 😔
Thick succulent fresh slices of pork liver and kidney that curled up within the peppery herbal soup broth, that was overflowing with the authenticity of the broth being cooked with pork bones for hours. It's a rare sight to see hawkers still sell such generous portions of this delicacy, which is not only a comfort food, but believed to have health benefits of nourishment to the ladies! Superb with a bowl of rice, especially on a rainy day.
Thick slices of fresh mackerel (batang) fish with an additional add-on of yummy cholesterol food: fish roe! The boss was really generous with the fish roe, and for just an additional $1, we got the whole fish roe! Clear soup, sweet fresh fish slices, anytime anywhere.
A light soup base filled with fresh mackerel (batang) fish slices, prawns, squid and fish eggs (or roe) Fish slices were sliced too pathetically thin they literally broke when I tried to pick them up. Seafood was fine. But at least I get to satisfy my fish eggs cravings yum! Weekends are for indulging and splurging on my favourite cholesterol clogging foods.
Received a 10% discount after showing my student card, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much from such food courts. Also not a big fan of sheng yu, as I only tend to eat mackerel (batang) fish for fish soups, I still went ahead to give it a try. Surprisingly, soup was clear and flavourful with an aromatic wine fragrance, and the fish slices and prawns were fresh and sweet! The lady was nice enough to peel the prawns for me as well (as there was no queue)
