Crave remains as my favorite nasi lemak but whenever I am here, I don't have a to-go-to stall. The standards are similar for all stalls.
Love the moist pulut hitam pandan cake. Am going to waste my Sunday here doing people watching.
The eggs were flowing with yolk but it wasn't a brunch that wowed me. Prices of the food were on the steep side but what I wished they could improved on was their efficiency.
I arrived at 1pm and there were a lot of empty tables yet everyone was waiting in the queue. The kitchen seemed to be unable to handle a half filled cafe as I was told the waiting time for food takes an hour.
Serving poke bowls in the day and grub food at night, Alter Ego's $9.90 beer pints drew me there. Skip the skewers and stick to cheap beer grub like chicken wings or tater tots. Lacking the charcoal grill, the skewers tasted like it was heated in a microwave. The skewers came to my table cold and dry. Despite giving the kitchen staff to reheat, the skewers still failed. Tater tots are hard to find it Singapore though.
My favorite place to get drunk cheaply....
Neon Pigeon has been around for quite awhile and I was glad to dine here. The cocktails were mean and food was amazing. I enjoyed most dishes except the tsukune (the Japaanese izakayas do it better). Focusing on sharing plates, this is a place for hanging out if you don't mind the noise when it gets crowded. Service was worth a mention as the staff will explain to you the dishes upon serving.
Flavorful curry, tender chicken slices, soft fried beancurd skin puffs. This is definitely worth a mention in the Michelin guide.
Usually sold out by lunch time I managed to grab the last few pieces. Costing $4 or $5 a piece, the croissants are expensive. The shop makes approximately 200 croissants a day amd you can calculate how much they earn a day from 8.30am till closing time (3pm).
My all time favorite carrot cake here, Heng Leong Carrot Cake. It is underrated because all food bloggers will recommended the other stall.
The carrot cake are freshly made in the stall, steamed and fried with garlic before adding the thick black sweet sauce. Their $2 version is good portion to fill the stomach.
The viscuous gravy might not appeal to many but this was good. The smell of the poultry was heavy but I kind of liked it.
Did a takeaway in the afternoon and reheated my croissant before eating it now. The pastry remained flaky and crispy. However the best was the thick matcha oozing out when I sliced the croissant into half. Gorgeous.
Loved that the chicken was so crispy.
