Many a time, what sets a restaurant apart is its service. At @barathymg, the service was impeccable. Chef Francois Mermilliod and his crew made us feel very welcome right from the start, constantly checking in to make sure everything was alright, and if we needed anything else. .

You’d know the credits are real when table after table of French natives stream in for dinner after eight. I would again too, given how value for money the omakase is (the meal can be customized according to your budget, starting from $80/pax). Alright, I can be frank and tell you that the dishes are not out-of-this-world kind of good but they are enough, especially when you just want an easy night out with a couple of friends and feel like you’re having a very homey meal (P/S: The bread is apparently brought in from France! I wonder how it still can maintain its moisture so well! Went great with the Duck Rillette that came with the Cod Fish) . .

1️⃣ Bacalao Accras with Nahm Jhim Dressing - Battered Cod Fish with a side of Thai spicy dip sauce and excellent Duck Rillette that goes excellently with their imported French bread .

2️⃣ Sweet Yellow Fin Tuna Ceviche + Baby Kailan with Cauliflower and drizzled with Yuzu-Ponzu Dressing .

3️⃣ Ravioli with Ricotta and peppered with Truffle and dices of Foie Gras .

4️⃣ The main was the Prime Steak in my previous post so shown here is 5️⃣ Dessert - Can’t remember the name, only that the square cubes were tamarind .

The beef was done medium-rare - exactly how the Chef wanted and we would like it - and it was so well-executed! Rimmed by fats that retains the meat’s natural juices yet not enough to make you feel like you’ve sinned. You will also see how the centers are just the right shade of red with slightly charred sides. .

Really hope the next time I go, I can get to try the Beef Wellington (needs advanced reservations, subject to availability) cos going by how delish the steak was, I can only imagine how good the Wellington will be! .

Most people may be over the salted-egg-everything phase but when I saw this { 嘻哈滿堂歡 } Salted Egg Prawns on the menu, I knew in my heart that it will be good and well, my gut feel was spot-on again! .

You can’t tell from photo but the salted eggs on this was GAO (thick) but not overwhelming. Deep fried to perfection, I wish I had ordered the large portion instead of the medium. I shall be back for more of these 🦐 soon! .

A traditional Teochew version of the Oyster Omelette in this restaurant is playfully named { 子孙乐满堂 }, literally translated to mean having many grandchildren and descendants filling up the halls with joy. HAH! I guess children are now oysters!? .

I love a good Oyster Omelette any time and even though the eggs were good, I didn’t like the too-much-starch part of it and I didn’t think the oysters were the best. Besides the chilli, there was another peppery dip which I’ve never seen in any other restaurant. How unique! .

Something old meets something new. This traditional Teochew dessert, Orh Nee (Sweet Yam Paste) with Gingko Nuts, has added chunks of Sweet Potato, strips of Chestnut and topped with a Mandarin Orange! Pretty good, I must say. Every time I have Orh Nee, I think of you @jeanetteaw 😆 cos #潮州妹 You might wanna try this! .

It is ridiculous that every time I get to Da Luca’s, the extremely charming hostess/lady boss always manages to cast a spell over me for a brief 20 seconds and I still say “YES!” to her recommendations of, well, the (overpriced) “Specials of the Day”. All the freaking time. .

Just as ridiculous is the skin on this piece of Spanish Pork. SO DARN CRISPY. Yet, the meat remained soft. There was still some lingering porky smell to it though . Whilst I’d say this was overall quite a delish dish, I didn’t think it is worth the $88 price tag (for two pax). .
