This was better than we expected! Stock used here was the more strongly seasoned sort and it came with crab stick, mushroom and a prawn. Pretty smooth.

Thankful for the staycay break this weekend and weā€™re back with our staycay staple from Donki woohoo. This time round, we picked up the salmon sushi, maguro maki, hirame sashimi and amaebi. So satisfying!

Salmon avocado maki topped with spicy mayo. Similar to the chirashi bowls we had, unfortunately thought the portion here was quite small too. The mayo is pretty salty on its own, so you can skip on the soy sauce for this.

Tried out the chirashi bowls here at the newly opened Xchange Chirashi, located just opposite Pasir Panjang Food Centre. While the sashimi slices were decently fresh and sliced quite thick, definitely wished the portions were muchhh bigger considering its original steep price tag - we found the rice layer that was topped with furikake beneath too thin. Would be better too if there was more of a variety of slices!

We had these 1 for 1 with Burpple Beyond and the deal applies to all the donburis on their menu - each of the bowl comes with a side of miso soup.

Huat ah everyone! Thank you @teppeisyokudo for the early CNY lohei - this is the first for our family this year.

This sashimi lohei is made with salmon, hotate, swordfish, tuna and ikura, on strips of white radish and carrot + Teppeiā€™s Kaisen sauce to drizzle on top. Would have loved a lot more touches of sweetness here so thereā€™s more of a refreshing balance instead of the majority savoury notes, but otherwise the sashimi were fresh.

For our other bowl, we had the Aburi Chirashi Don that had torched cubes sashimi topped with ikura. Likewise, the sashimi cubes were fresh and came in a generous portion. Saw a few reviews that mentioned about their rice, but thankfully, we had well cooked ones in ours. In comparison to the Truffle Chirashi Don ($15.90), flavours are more mellow here without additional seasoning, so youā€™d get the original sashimi flavours and that touch of smokiness. This also came served with a bowl of miso soup and salad.

Value for money bowls from Chirashizushi Shou - their dons all come served with a bowl of miso soup and salad. They have been here in Bukit Timah Plaza for a while now and weā€™ve finally popped by to try. Thumbs up to their generosity of fresh sashimi chunks that were of very decent quality. I especially enjoyed the number of baby scallops they included here (many places usually donā€™t include that many). Liked that the sauce mix wasnā€™t too salty and the truffle was just nice, and didnā€™t over power the sashimi flavours. Only gripe was that the prawn was a little over cooked, and even though there was tako stated on the menu for this, we didnā€™t find any.

Heard that they usually have a long queue, but we got there just riiiiight before their last order and got to skip that! Will be back to try more - their space is next to Myung Ga II, which has great homely Korean food.

Finally trying what people call the ā€˜atas cai pngā€™, at muji cafe! šŸ˜‚ Went for the 3 deli set that comes with the choice of 2 cold deli, 1 hot deli, 16 grain/white rice and miso/cumin carrot soup.

While the deli portions could definitely be much bigger, we did appreciate the fresh and healthy ingredients that didnā€™t lose out on flavour. The 16 grain rice was done nice and fluffy. Iā€™m not a fan of carrots, but the hearty bowl of cumin carrot soup is actually something Iā€™d pick again next time.

Came with a light sesame sort of dressing but pity that it was pricey and a little overcooked.

Mentai SENSā€™ stall is just next to Top 1 Homemade Noodles in Beauty World Food Centre. Itā€™s a pretty decent hawker option - they offer quite a good range of other dons, like oyakudon and pork katsu don, etc. Portion of rice is slightly smaller than the usual, but must say that they were generous with the mentaiko sauce. Appreciated that the salmon was cooked just right!

Deconstructed negitoro roll that we had fun DIY-ing. Each of these portion gets you 2 pieces of crisp seaweed and 2 portions of rice and nicely seasoned negitoro. The portion of each roll was huge, hence would have been nice to have more seaweed to make more rolls heh.

The curry is done with pork jowl chunks and carrots. Iā€™m less a fan of the pork used as they were much more fatty. Curry had a good thickness and leaned more sweet. Personally would have loved a little more distinct heat in it, but was a very hearty bowl nonetheless.
