With over 1,117 outlets in China, XiabuXiabu has open its first overseas outlet in Singapore. The 72-seater restaurant has a bar-style concept, which is suitable even for solo diners.

Select your own dual individual hotpot, featuring their signature Mushroom Soup and your choice of soup - Golden Sauerkraut Soup, Stew Pork Tripe & Chicken Soup, Nanyang Curry Soup, Tomato Soup and Sichuan Style Soup.

Value-for-money as each set (from $28) comes with a vegetable platter, unlimited condiments and noodles, plus tea from Tea Mi Tea.

Nothing hits the spot like a pipping hot clay pot dish, especially on a rainy day.

One of my to-go places for comfort food, Lau Wang Claypot has finally opened within Bugis+. Cooked and served individually, the portions are generous yet affordable.

Must-order the popular Sesame Chicken (from $6.30). Boneless chicken cubes cooked in a fragrant thick gravy with a touch of chilli, it is best savoured over a bowl of white rice. Other dishes to add on are the Liver & Kidney (from $6.50) and Sliced Fish Herbal Soup (from $7.30), which helps to cut through the flavours.

Cos it’s Tom Yum! Heard that Tanyu has launched a new flavour - Grilled Fish with Tom Yum Soup - so we decided to have it for Father’s Day celebration.

Cooked with 15 Thai-style ingredients and spices including vannamei shrimp, crab stick, mushroom, lemongrass and more. It is a refreshing sour-spicy option to the numbing mala grilled fish. Topped it up with their Golden Combination (kelp, enoki mushrooms, lotus root and potatoes) to elevate the taste.

A stunning garden-within-a-restaurant serving tantalising Yunnan highland cuisine. This outlet is filled with curves and names of places in China which merchants will pass in the Ancient Tea Horse Road.

Known for its nourishing Steam Pot Chicken Soup, they brought back the elevated version ($32.90) which includes mildly sweet lily bulbs
imported from Yunnan and black chicken feet.

Expect new dishes which focus on 高原料理 such as Braised Fish Maw with Wild Porcini Mushroom or Pomelo Salad with Osmanthus Dressing made with fresh lily bulb petals and pomelo.

The Steamed Cod With “Mei Cai” ($31.90) uses one of the best Hakka preserved vegetables from Dabu County. Neither too sweet or salty, it brings out the freshness of the cod.

Speciality Japanese shrimp ramen store, Le Shrimp has a new dish! From now till 31 Mar 2022, dropped by to try their mouthwatering Ma Po Tofu with Minced Shrimp Ramen.

Cubes of tofu coated in an aromatic and spicy sauce, the bowl of signature ramen are covered with fried beancurd crisp, Sichuan pickled diced vegetables and QQ minced shrimp. The sweetness from the shrimp balanced the mala tofu. Mala level was just nice for me, though those who love it hot can ask for spicier.

Recommend to devour the dish while having a bowl of the thick Red Garoupa with Preserved Vegetable in Tonkotsu Broth ($19.90).

With sustainability being the focus these days, it is great to see restaurants practising this. Zing by Xi Yan, isn’t your conventional Chinese restaurant, on their menu, you’ll find healthy bowls, power salads and pasta too.

Yum Som O Kung Salad ($15), is a mix of pomelo, prawns, sakura ebi, nuts, calamansi and yuzu. Very refreshing option to start with before moving on to the mains. Another dish not to be missed will be their Hakka Abacus ($18). This laborious dish is a combination of QQ Hakka yam abacus seeds, stir-fried with mushroom, minced pork, and dried shrimp.

P.S: they have collaborated with The Social Kitchen to create employment for the disadvantaged, and sustainable produce for their dishes.

Whet your appetite as Xin Cuisine Chinese Restaurant unveils new signature dishes just in time before the festive season.

Elevating the traditional 赛螃蟹, the new signature Stir-fried Lobster with Egg White & Crab Roe is a lip-smacking good dish. Combining fresh succulent lobster meat with slight briny crab roe.

Other dishes worth trying include their Poached Rice with Seafood in Superior Broth and the Poached Sea Perch with Chinese Rice Wine.

Ventured into this shaokao 烧烤 place round the corner as the popular one has a long wait time.

Offering BBQ meat and vegetable skewers (range from $1), the adventurous can get more exotic options like pig heart, lamb kidney, even chicken head. Be careful though as they are heavily spiced that I accidentally choke on one and got teary. Recommend to get Tsing Dao Beer so you can gulp down anytime.

Firecracker Chicken ($14) and Crayfish ($38) are some tantalising mains to try.

最初的。Simple Taiwanese fare @true_breakfast

For homely comforting soup, their Guo Shao Egg Noodle ($5), consist of deep-fried noodles (aka yi mian) with pork slices and vegetables, is an excellent option to have.

And what’s Taiwan breakfast without their Egg Crepe aka Dan Bing蛋餅. The thin crepe is coated with egg and topped with different fillings such as Corn ($4), Luncheon Meat ($4.50) or Meat Floss ($4.50)

Wallet-friendly Taiwanese stall in AMK heartlands, near Nanyang Polytechnic.

Ordered a simple bowl of Braised Pork Rice ($3.80) and addition of $1 for the braised egg. Though value-for-money set I’ll recommend to go for Braised Pork Bento ($5.90) which includes braised egg, Chinese Sausage and vegetables. Marinated and braised for at least two hours, the tender pork belly bit is flavourful with gravy dripping into the pearl rice below.

Other than their Lu Rou Fan, they have the Salt & Pepper Chicken ($4) another popular Taiwanese snack that we all love. Nice addition as a side but not much to shout about.

@kingoffriedricesg is expanding very quickly with two new outlets this week - one at Tampines and another one at Serangoon!

The fragrant egg fried rice comes in 4 options - Normal, XO sauce, Tom Yum and Mala. Have it plain or with shrimp though I’ll strongly recommend to go for the pork cutlet version which is huge and flavoursome. And that’s what we gotten, their signature Pork Cutlet X.O Fried Rice with Tobiko ($8.90)
