New Restaurants, Cafes And Bars: June 2015

Hot on the heels of Four Seasons Chinese Restaurant (and with zero relation to the acclaimed Fat Duck restaurant in the UK), London Fat Duck is a Hong-Kong style restaurant at Scotts Square specialising in roast duck. Their signature Roast Duck ($12.80 for a regular portion, $26 for half a duck and $48.80 for the whole bird) has mouth-cracklingly crispy skin, although Four Seasons may have the more succulent and moist meat. Try it and decide for yourself which fowl is superior! Also go for their memorably good Black Pepper London Duck Buns ($4.80 for 3).

The latest addition to Tanjong Pagar's Korean food enclave is Twins (the name refers to the chefs, who are identical Korean twins), a Korean restaurant serving fried chicken and bingsu as well as other Korean street fare such as tokkbokki (rice cakes) and noodles. Go for the lip-smackingly good Soy and Garlic Chicken ($20 for half chicken, $35 for the whole bird) and the flavourful Woojae's Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup ($16.90).

The famed Parisian tea-room concept, Angelina, has opened its doors in Singapore at Capitol Galleria. The cosy 60-seater tea salon is great for a lazy afternoon lounge with friends, or you could simply pop by the dessert boutique area for pastry takeaways and delicatessen products such as jams and spreads. Go for their famed signature Mont Blanc ($13.50) and Hot Chocolate ($12). Mains and brunch options are also available for a more substantial meal.

Heart, tongue, eyes and brain — don’t be too quick to judge less familiar items in the daily changing date-stamped menu at Lollapalooza. Opened by the same folks behind Lolla, fresh and seasonal produce gets well-deserved, gutsy treatment here. If available, don’t hesitate to order the Corned Veal Tongue ($45), a flavourful surprise with a nice bite complemented by the fresh and bright salsa verde. Alternatively, play it safe with the Chargrilled Secreto Iberia de Bellota ($22). The Burrata with Stinging Nettle Pesto ($33) may seem pricey, but this globe of creamy indulgence is absolutely worth it. As the offering change quite often, finish off by getting a staff recommendation for what dessert's good that day!
