My kind of comfort food. Japchae is proof that there’s beauty in simplicity — a simple sauté of springy Korean vermicelli, onions, mushrooms, and an assortment of vegetables perfumed with a dash of sesame oil. It was refreshingly light and not at all greasy. The price may seem steep, but the portion is good for 4-5 pax plus other sharing dishes.
Otherwise known as army stew, a favourite among many Singaporeans for its spicy, tangy flavours that never fail to perk one up. Look at the generosity in that hodgepodge of ingredients: spam, sausages, squid, tofu, peppers, mushrooms, and vegetables. Soak up the broth’s goodness with their Korean rice, nicely cooked till it’s moist and slightly sticky.
Crafted by a Korean chef, the 17-page food menu (including their popular value-for-money lunch sets) is their earnest dedication to bring us a taste of Korea’s rich culinary heritage.
Like a well-oiled machine, everything on the table was executed with finesse by the good hands of the service crew. My favourites were the juicy flavour-packed grilled meats, Japchae (sautéed vermicelli with mushrooms & vegetables), and Haemool-Pajeon (pan-fried seafood with spring onion pancake), which stayed crisp through out the meal.
And the best part about having Korean bbq? Not having to smell like one at the end of it. Definitely bookmarked as my To-Gol place when the craving strikes. Thank you @burpple for the invitation and Hyang-To-Gol for the warm hospitality!
A happy fusion of the two well-loved cuisines, the variety of delicious-sounding rice/noodle bowls available on the menu of this lil eatery will make you go 'OMO' (Korean slang for 'oh my') indeed. Each (giant) bowl is composed of a base (purple/white rice, soba, korean glass noodles, udon, salad), a protein (spicy korean chicken, unagi, grilled/smoked salmon, ...), and sides including kimchi omelette, onsen tamago & tobiko, and more, and a sauce (gochujang, yuzu wasabi, bibimbap, teriyaki, bbq) to dress it up. Choose from 18 signature dons, or build your own, like I did.
The full-house eatery seemed promising, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The individual items that I had were tasty enough on their own – the juicy kimchi omelette and springy glass noodles deserving a special mention – and came together and made my tummy a very happy one. Definitely recommend this place for an affordable, satisfying meal. Good for groups as well; there's definitely something for everyone - all items are pork-free, plus vegan options are available here as well.
The cool, refreshing, and piquant beef broth is perfect for our weather, and the springy buckwheat noodles that bounce around the tongue just makes me so happy.

Not comparing to the real deal in Korea, Guksu's version wasn't all that bad (I've had worse) after all. Its broth wasn't as tangy as desired, probably influenced by local palates, but there's nothing a shot of vinegar can't solve. What was interesting was the texture of the beef slices—chilling it breaks down the muscle fibres and imparts a certain creaminess to it. The magic of dry aging. 👌

I miss the juice-squirting ones from Chicken Up and Joo Bar, though the honey garlic marinade here is pretty potent and addictive. #burpple #foodspotting #foodandfriends
This is it, in all its glistening porcine glory.
Boasting the perfect meat-to-fat ratio, the hog is brined in an aromatic blend of salt, pepper, soju and makgeolli, then roasted till juicy-tender, unleashing its phenomenal flavours from the beautiful marbling. The chives and whole grain mustard were an excellent accompaniment, their sharpness and acidity helped to cut through all that richness.
So insanely good, nobody should leave @joobarsg without trying this.
I really, really like this place, from the cool designer-ish vibes to its innovative modern #Korean plates. Nearly everything we ordered here was deftly executed, this is fusion without the confusion. #takingbackfusion
All that talk about the Seafood Gochujang Risotto was legit, this was even better than expected. Completely bowled over by that dangerously addictive creamy gochujang sauce. The fresh seafood imbued a certain sweetness into the al dente grains, which served as the perfect vehicle for its substantial flavours.
I was unimpressed by its name but my, was I proven wrong. The crispy wings came and delivered a knockout punch of savoury flavours with just a tinge of sweetness to balance it out.
This sounded funky on paper but came as a tasty surprise. A motley crew of kimchi sauce, mayo, shredded pork, raw onions, and jalapeño on a bed of crispy fries, these were dangerously addictive.
