Swirls And Twirls

Baristart’s limited ice cream flavour this round is strawberry, made with Hokkaido BIEI milk. While we appreciated that it’s smooth and not too sweet, we did hope that the tangy strawberry flavour was more pronounced.

Wanted to try both seasonal flavours but they only do twists with their signature Sea Salt. The Apple Pie wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be, but the flavour wasn’t that distinct either. Was kinda hoping for some hints of cinnamon too! This is available till 15 March along with Earl Grey Milk Tea, before they switch it up .

Smooy’s classic comes in a nice portion with a choice of 2 toppings. The yoghurt was just right, not too sweet or icy. Service was lovely, the server was friendly and more than willing to give recommendations for pairings. If you’re on Burpple Beyond, get 1 for 1 at their Downtown Gallery other!

HEYTEA has two types of tea soft serves, Oolong and Red Tea. I went with the former and it was not bad. The tea fragrance could be a lot stronger though, but it was refreshing without being too sweet (though the milkiness can be dropped a teeny bit). Overall it’s pretty worth it for its price!

On top of the tea flavours, HEYTEA also serves Mango and two Singapore specials, Durian and Salted Egg Yolk - all at $4.80 each.

Glad to have came by when it’s matcha on their seasonal flavour rotation. Was honestly skeptical and expected it to be the sweeter + milkier kind of matcha, but was so pleasantly surprised by the distinct hint of bitterness in it, made in collaboration with Matchaya’s matcha powder. Really liked the matcha and tangy yogurt base combined in one - satisfies the sweet froyo craving without an overwhelming amount of sugar. Psst, get a really value for money 1 for 1 deal with Burpple Beyond at their Downtown Gallery outlet!

The new McDonald’s Hershey flavoured cone ice cream! Thought it was not too bad but quite sweet and feels a little much to finish a whole cone. Maybe the mix with vanilla would be a better balance.

The ribena on its own wasn’t exactly that strong and reminded us more of grapes/fruits than the former. It worked much better as a swirl with the lightly salted signature sea-salt!

Black sesame is one of Aqua S’ two new flavours in their current rotation. We had this with their crunchy house-made caramel popcorn, which was probably my favourite topping of them all - but, we wouldn’t recommend this pairing as it seemed to overpower. The creamy black sesame on its own was quite earthy, though I missed the touch of graininess we’d usually associate with black sesame soft serves and ice cream.

Pleasing presentation though we’d prefer it to come in an easier to eat plate/bowl! Soft serve was decently fragrant but it was also less rich and a tad too sweet from what we’d prefer, especially when its chocolate stick and brownies were sweet too. It’s not a full waffle beneath them but was an ok portion for its price. Make use of Burpple Beyond to stretch your dollar!

With Nectar’s Moyen, you get to pick 3 toppings and a sauce! We got to try both their cookie and coconut sauces, and even though I’m a huge fan of cookie sauce, I thought the coconut sauce went better with the froyo. Their froyo was refreshingly light and not as creamy, but the best part was that it’s not as sweet as others in the market. It really depends on the kind of froyo you like, but Nectar’s one is tasty yet feels healthier!

City Square Mall’s running their ‘Power Up Your Appetite’ campaign with a bunch of different promos till the end of July and Nectar’s (they are in the midst of rebranding from Milk & Honey) one of the participating F&B outlets. They’ve a nice range of greek yogurt bowls, acai bowls, waffle and yogurt parfaits which feature their signature froyo that’s refreshingly light and not as sweetened as others. Their waffle was the more dense sort and you get to choose from a range of toppings to go along.

A bit icy, but there’s a more distinct tea fragrance in this in comparison to the latte we had earlier. It wasn’t too sweet and the pearls were quite chewy, except that they could do much better with the consistency in portion.
