The interior decor here is bare & minimalist; the floor-to-ceiling windows that face the main road (Dunearn Road) let a lot of light in, which makes the space bright & welcoming.

It wasn't crowded on a Saturday afternoon when I visited, & a nice chill playlist plays softly in the background while customers chit chat or do work. There is a study area of 8 small tables on one side, & the remaining other tables have "No Studying" signs next to them.

Parking is free (though limited) at Sime Darby Centre on weekends - the parking lot is on level 2 right outside Cold Storage. But if you're taking transport, Kong Cafe is right next to King Albert Park MRT.

Their menu is plastered all over their walls near the cashier, & I took some time to read through them. Eventually, I ordered the Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough Toast, which unfortunately is not available on its own. It's mandatory to order an add-on, which I think is quite a shame because I didn't actually want any of them - Hummus, Sausage, Homemade Chutney, Bacon.

I decided on the sausage in the end, making my Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough Toast with Sausage $13.50 nett.

This was served very quickly. It honestly doesn't look like much, but it tastes pretty good. The scrambled eggs are creamy & slightly runny, just the way I like them. I just admit that the sausage gives the dish saltiness in good proportion. The sliced sourdough bread was impressively toasted to perfection! Crust not too hard (still easy to bite into), & the soft part of the bread pillowy & fluffy.

I do hope they consider putting just Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough Toast on its own on the menu. I'd frequent this place more often if they did.

Discovered Kong Cafe while surfing Instagram - initially intruiged by their all-day happy hour promotion of 3 bottles of beer for $18.

I soon learnt that they also serve coffee, brunch & dinner fare so I decided to pay them a visit.a

I ordered a Portobello Sandwich & enjoyed it, which took me by surprise. The mushrooms were generous & juicy, with the cheese melted & still slightly oozy, being served hot. The lettuce & tomatoes inside were fresh & the bread was soft & really filled me up.

All sandwiches come with a side of chips, which were nice & crispy but a little salty. If these are regular store-bought chips from a bag, I doubt anything can be done about it, though. There is the option to change the chips to a salad, but that unfortunately costs additional.

I would order this again if I could get this at the 50% off that I had by booking with Eatigo.

Koda's Cafe's last day of operations at The Hillford is tomorrow, 15th Aug 2019. No regrets ordering my Portobello Sandwich as it was tasty. Would return here again if I could book with the same Eatigo discount.

I was going to say that this is, after all, at a convenient location for me (albeit many will beg to differ). But that might not be relevant to me anymore after they move.

Ordering a sandwich isn't something that I'd usually do, but nothing else on the menu really appealed to me. It might be just me... I usually like Burgers, but I wasn't feel any of them that day.

They have brunch items on the menu like Big Breakfast & French Toast, as well as Shepherd's Pies, too. Overall, I find the menu here on the pricey side, so I was glad to have the 50% #eatigosg discount.

All the best, Koda's Cafe, in your new adventures very soon!

It's my first time being here on a weekday - it isn't as crowded as it is on weekends, which is good. However, for some reason the Pandan Houjicha (Iced, $6.00 nett) took a really long time to arrive. That was a bit off-putting BUT upon trying it, all was good in this world again because it is apparently pretty damn amazing.

I say apparently, because I wasn't the one who drank this. But I trust said person's recommendation & would consider ordering this the next time as well.

Affordable brunch fare that popped up in my hood recently - makes me a very happy girl. Quite a nice space to chill/do work in as they have free WiFi, water & good air-conditioning.

Flagwhite's "Flag Your Brunch" option allows you to customize your brunch platter to your liking by adding only the food you want - & the best part is, the prices are pretty reasonable!

For eggs, I chose the Poached Eggs ($4 nett), of course. They were done perfectly & oozed onto my Sourdough Bread ($3 nett) to perfection. I wish the bread were toasted a little less, as the edges were quite hard to bite into comfortably, but it was overall still ok.

The other add-ons (they call 'em Flaggers) I chose were the Sauteed Mushrooms ($3 nett) & Grilled Tomato ($1 nett), both of which I'd order again. I pinched a bit of my friend's Roasted Pumpkin ($3 nett) & it was D I V I N E, so sweet & tasty. Unfortunately she said the Breakfast Sausage ($4 nett) was very salty & not nice, but that's fine wth me, because I could do without meat.

Other options for eggs: Sunny Side Up/Scrambled Eggs; & for bread: Croissant/Brioche.

Had to order a coffee too, in typical cafe style. Had the White ($5 nett), which is an Espresso on Milk - & I could choose between the 2 types of beans they had for that day. Not an expert so I can't comment on that, but it's certainly nice to have options!

Excited to learn that this fairly new bakery is very accessible from home for me. While I wouldn't travel from east to west I come here, I had a good experience here eating my Kouign Amann ($3.50 nett), drinking an espresso, & writing Christmas cards.

Despite sitting at the innermost table, ventilation & air-conditioning was enough to stay cool. The bread itself was delicious - flaky & buttery, with a great sugar glaze that wasn't sickeningly sweet. I would order it again. The espresso ($3.00 nett) I ordered was decent.

Staff were polite & friendly. & I was offered a glass of water when I placed my 2nd order (because I sat for so long haha), which I thought was a nice gesture. Free WiFi here is a bonus too if you're looking for somewhere to get some work done - although there are only a few tables, so make sure you don't table hog for too long.

The Soft Shell Crab Salted Egg Wafu Pasta ($23++) & Umami Pasta ($21++) were both from the main menu, so I was able to use my Burpple Beyond here to get the lower priced dish free.

Both were tasty in their own ways (creamy vs spicy), & the pasta was pleasantly al dente. I wish the latter had more substantial ingredients or bigger shrimp (i.e. prawns) though, but that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

After all the rave reviews online about this café being a great working cafe with WiFi & charging outlets, I was disappointed to be told that customers can't charge their devices here even though the wall plugs are unused & not loaded.

They should probably put up signs or cover the plugs so the staff don't have to keep telling customers who think otherwise.

WiFi is decent & food quite delicious, though - so kudos to them for that. Their space is also very nicely furnished, is comfortable, & exudes good vibes. Perhaps that's why they're so popular, & perhaps that's why they don't want "charging socket hoggers" planting their butt there all day.

I do miss the old KAP, but it seems like there are a few eateries & such popping up in this neck of the woods lately. Everyone & their mother has reviewed the waffles at Kindred Folk, but I didn't see many reviews of their pasta, so I went down to check this place out for myself. Conveniently, you can reserve a table using Eatigo & I managed to score a neat 40% off - not too shabby.

Sat upstairs as it was a little crowded downstairs. Around the corner from the staircase after you head up are a couple of tables, clean cut decor, & even a hammock that you can lie in (at your own risk). Overall a very pleasant, comfortable environment to be in. Free WiFi is also a bonus! 😉

As for the pastas, I feel they aren't worth full price, but with the Eatigo discount I had, I'm not complaining.

Ragu on Ribbons ($15) is a wonderful slurpy pappardelle dish with a hearty beef & pork ragu. I loved how the tomato based sauce is well-balanced & not too acidic. I'd order this again but perhaps not too often, as the portion is quite small. I'm also curious about the other pasta they have on the menu, so I might get that instead the next time 😉
