By the end of the night, I completely understood why the bar seats at Ju Hua Tai are so coveted. Not only did I enjoy the start of my evening with some very good chats with BK, I was thoroughly entertained by Dee(@dr.pepper_1986)'s spectacular theatrics & tasty bespoke cocktails. Call me a sucker, but I love a good show.

T'was my first time at Ju Hua Tai & certainly won't be my last. If you've been here before, let me know what cocktails I should try next!

I'm always up for experimental/weird drinks. Enjoyed the 爱鱼恨 Love & Hate ($20+) as much as I did the conversations throughout the night with BK, who whipped this up for me. For my Mandarin-speaking folks, can we also appreciate the pun on the Mandarin name of this cocktail, pls.

With a base of octopus-infused Bacardi Carta Blanca (white rum), this was savoury as you would expect, with a delicious tangy finish at the end from the lemon juice. With dry vermouth & Hua Tiao Jiu θŠ±ι›•ι…’ within as well, this was a good drink to start off with, opening up my tastebuds for the food & drinks ordered (if that's how you translate 开胃 lmao idk).

Got to know of Ju Hua Tai thanks to @missha_2122's post on an interesting cocktail here. Stepped in & was mesmerized by the neon lights - which, I admit, can be tacky, but in this case it was quite intriguing & funky to me. (My food photos turned out oddly coloured though - you've been warned....)

Their selection of cocktails & craft beer were both tempting - went with cocktails in the end, & some bar snacks.

Always heartened to see local brands expanding their portfolio to keep it fresh & interesting. CRUST is beer that makes a difference, & I’ve been avidly following their journey since the start.

The brand’s beliefs in upcycling food waste into beverages for a more circular economy really spoke/speak to me, & I was impressed by the passion & dreams of the founders Travin & Ben when I first spoke to them last year.

Of course, it also helps that this is beer we are talking about… πŸ˜‚

Cracked open their latest brew, CITRAL, on a sweltering hot afternoon. It’s a hazy pale ale made from surplus bread & lemon myrtle - a beautiful flowering plant - from our very own Gardens by the Bay. While it is fairly aromatic with notes of citrus & herbs, it also has a subtle bitterness that is pleasant & not overpowering.

So if you’re expecting something that tastes like a cider, you’re not going to get it. This is a beer that is more complex (my tastebuds generally don’t fancy ciders anw), & plus points for being for a good cause πŸ˜‰ #saveacrust

Check out their full range of beers (I’ve tried them all & I will say the variety is appreciated) at www.crust-group.com/crust, & remember to use my promo code WOBBLETHEBUI10 for 10% off!

Thanks CRUST for sending these over, cheers! 🍻

The Smoked Old Fashioned ($16++, foreground) was too sweet for my usual preference, as I understand is from the honey & agave. Would've liked stronger presence of cacao nibs to balance out the sweetness. I did, however, enjoy the tinge of smokeyness that lingers for a while post-sip.

Osmanthus Negroni ($16++, background) was more my cup of tea. I find traditional/standard negronis too sweet for me - but this is made with with Martini Extra Dry (instead of sweet vermouth). The Dolin Genepi is what gives it a pleasant herbal taste, & rounded off with the floral notes from the Osmanthus... Very yum. I could do with more of this πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Tanuki Raw honestly needs no introduction... Happy Hour from 5-8PM daily; their drinks aren't anything to shout about, & I only order them because they are a prerequisite to get the happy hour bites.

Hibiki Sake Bar & Dine's happy hour runs from 5-7:30PM, during which you get double the usual portion for the price, but served in a single glass. These were so refreshing in the humidity & heat.

We did order a 2nd round of sake at 19:22hrs, however we were told we had to finish the drinks on our table first. That was fine - we asked our waitress if she'd return before happy hour ended at 19:30. She said ok, but she didn't. & that was how we lost our 2nd round of drinks, just like that.

I hadn't jumped on the bandwagon to try Lombardo's burgers for charity when they were unveiled (can't afford them 24k gold leaf-covered buns), but had had my eye on them since then. After winning vouchers to dine here thanks to Kiss 92, I decided I shouldn't procrastinate any longer. So I made a booking on Chope to head down 😁

Upon enquiry, the staff that I could indeed use Chope to make a reservation, despite intending to use an external voucher. However, my reservation was marked as no-show thereafter, which was a bit of a cheese off to me... But I settled it privately with them. Hopefully that doesn't happen to anyone else.

Started off dinner with a pint of Heineken & was pleased to learn that happy hour was all night long. How did the burgers fare, though? Stay tuned for reviews!

Do you miss KTVing too? If so, I highly recommend dining at Chug Chug because my dinner felt so much like ζœ€ι•Ώηš„η”΅ε½± that I don't even miss KTV that much anymore.

Made a reservation on Chope. Unfortunately turned up early. Waited 10 mins past actual reservation time for the tables to be cleared on the 2nd floor. That's fine, especially when your premises are packed to the brim.

Sat down & ordered. Food took an absolute eternity to arrive, & was incredulously spaced out. Waited 20 mins for the first pasta dish to arrive. Then 10+ mins between everyone else's main course, & somewhere in between the appetiser was served. I felt so bad when the last main was served, because I'd suggested dining here.

To me, this is an unacceptable level of service. It didn't seem like they were short staffed, but being on the 2nd floor I didn't have visibility of the actual kitchen activities - so perhaps something messed up there.

Doesn't look like something I'd typically order, but looks can be deceiving - Orchard Smash ($25++) is a cognac-based cocktail with citrusy goodness. Deceivingly refreshing with Dry Curaçao & Mint, go slow & savour it in all its cheerfulness, despite the temptation to slurp it all down. It'll hit you with a fairly nice buzz after.

Do you prefer sitting at the bar, or at the table seats?

When I'm alone, I usually sit at the bar for a nice view of the bottles & the occasional chit chat/playful banter. But at Set of Six, it might be a tough call.. Both seem like good options. The seats look quite comfy & yes that is a disco ball πŸ˜‰

Didn't have much time to spend here, but glad I made it & I will certainly be back. Make your reservations early as it gets packed as night falls. Yes lol I was here at 5pm on a Saturday - was able to walk in, but not before they asked me how long I'd be staying.

45 mins, I laughed. Hehehe.
