This time round, this came on Monday and it’s the newly launched vegan meal package, perfect option during those #meatlessmonday moments. Available only on Mondays to Thursdays, preordering of these packages are required to ensure that you can get your order on the desired date. The packages come in two different options with a price point of $30 and $60 nett, and they are available for self-collection or delivery.

Pictured is the Vegan Combo for 2, which comes with a starter, biryani, side dish and two breads and this being the first time I am having a full vegan meal from the restaurant, I am thoroughly impressed with the multitude of flavours that I am getting from each bite. From the Gobi Manchurian of deep-fried cauliflower tossed in a sweet & spicy sauce, garlic and spicy onion to the Vegetable Biryani, every item in the menu will spiced up your tastebuds like never before. The latter is a dhum biryani that’s prepared the authentic Hyderabad way with the restaurant’s signature spice and herb mix that instantly perfumes the dining room as you open the cover lid. To complement with the rice, I got the Tofu Palak, a rendition of the palak paneer but instead of cottage cheese, fried tofu is used as the protein which is then cooked in a spinach mix that also consists of spices, dry chilli and ginger garlic paste. To mop up the spinach gravy, I got the tandoori roti and garlic roti to do the job, and they did it impeccably well.

This time round, it’s from Ah Kim Fried Hokkien Mee from Tampines 1’s Kapitan food court. In fact, this takeaway was bought almost an hour ago before I actually eat it and oh my goodness, it still tastes damn bloody delicious. Probably it’s the drier kind of hokkien mee that it’s still as good as when it’s freshly out from the wok. Also, as it was the dry kind, there is that unmistakably wok hei aroma. And yes, I added the fried pork which adds the essential crunch and flavour in the dish.

Look no further than the ones from Soup & Co. as not a single drop of the broth was left at the end of the meal. Soup & Co. is a halal home business that’s helmed by a KL-born chef who dishes out authentic Malaysian food based on decade old recipes. My favourite has got to be their Signature Fried Fish Noodle Soup ($9.80) that not only comes with slices of fried fish, there are even giant prawns in it. The star of the show, which is not unexpected, is that umami broth that I believe has been boiling for several hours using the freshest ingredients, resulting in the essence that’s slurp worthy and you will not feel thirsty thereafter as well. Besides the fish noodle soup, Soup & Co. also has unique dishes such as KL-style Curry Mee ($9.80), the not-commonly-seen Curry Chee Cheung Fun ($8.80), Sliced Fish Soup with Rice ($9.80) and Sliced Fish Pao Fun ($9.80) in the menu. As the business is primarily home-based, each main is of a limited basis so do pre-order a day in advance to avoid disappointment. There is a minimum order of 2 mains for delivery, and they are open for lunch and dinner daily, except Mondays. To go along with your mains, they do sell side dishes such as handmade fish cake and sotong wanton at $5.80 per portion.

For the month of June, there are several ongoing promotions
Order 5 mains for lunch and get the 6th for free
Free surprise side with every side dish ordered
Free delivery for orders to Sengkang and Punggol or $5 islandwide delivery fee applies

If you happen to visit one of their restaurants, you will notice that the menu is different from the food courts, except a few soups, but largely serving a variety of nutritious soups and zichar dishes. Back when I have yet to discover their restaurants, I will usually get the Lotus Root Soup with Peanut as it comes with a generous portion of pork ribs in that savoury broth that has been seasoned with the secret ingredient; the dried squid, which elevates the soup and ups the notch in the umami-ness scale. Right now, the lotus root soup stands on par with my new favourite, the restaurant-exclusive Pork Rib with Apple and Snow Pear Soup ($11). Initially, I was skeptical as to apples and snow pears in a Chinese soup but I was proven wrong as this sweet-savoury double boiled soup is both refreshing and comforting at the same time. This was so good that i finished every drop of liquid that’s left in the bowl. The best accompaniment to these soups will definitely be the Pumpkin Rice ($2.70), which you know is the real deal as the rice actually contains chunks of softened pumpkin in it. Additionally, Lao Huo Tang has a menu of zichar dishes which you can order for a family meal with dishes such as Sweet & Sour Pork ($15.30), Spinach with Salted & Century Egg ($17.40) and the whole deep fried Grouper Fish that’s wrapped in lotus leaves and served with a tangy spicy sauce that’s perfect to whet your appetite ($21.70). Lao Huo Tang is available for delivery now and you can order these soups and dishes from the link below.

Visually appealing and will make you salivate from the first glance, Love Fresh has modernised their Japanese food offerings with three menu items in their Father’s Day menu from the Greatest Love ($38.90) to Supa Hero ($28.90). The former is a bento of snack bites with favourites such as chilli soft shell crab, fried oyster and aburi hotate with truffle while the latter is a shipment of sushi creations from unagi cream cheese maki to crispy rice lobster salad mini burgers. However, what truly surprised me are the Japanese Fusion Pizzas ($29.90) which is an ingenious and modern way to fuse two cuisines into one. With a deep fried tempura base, it comes with 3 slices of rice pizza with toppings such as spicy salmon with wakame, chicken teriyaki and jumbo crab. Even though I was stuffed by the end of the meal, I could not resist finishing these fusion pizzas, and especially the jumbo crab version which was so good.

Now, you can curb that craving as Tamashii has launched their DIY ramen kit which you can store a few of them in the freezer and the best part is that each is packed individually with clear instructions on how to prepare them in a quick and convenient manner. You can either opt to buy these ramen kits ala carte or get them via a DIY Bundle Deal ($64) which comes with a set of DIY Tori Ramen, DIY Tonkatsu Ramen, Frozen Wagyu Beef Gyoza (6 pieces) and Frozen Satsuma-age. The DIY Tori Ramen comes with a pack of frozen chicken broth, a portion of dry ramen and frozen minced chicken ball while the DIY Tonkatsu Ramen comes with a pack of frozen pork bone broth, dry ramen and frozen braised Sakura pork belly that has been seared before packing. After defrosting the frozen broth, all I took was 10-15 minutes to get my bowl of piping hot ramen, pan fried gyoza and satsuma-age (house made fish cake with crab meat stuffing) ready on my dining table. Super comforting with a flavourful broth that will make you feel satisfied from the start to end.

Will that entice and pique your interest? If it does, you have until 30 June 2020 to place your order via WhatsApp (contact detail below) and enjoy this rate before the promotion ends. Shining brightly on the spotlight is the popular Lè Fusion’s Braised Abalone Seafood Rice, which is value-for-money and the portion can easily fill 2 pax. Not only does each set comes with a reasonably sized 6-head abalone, you can also expect jumbo prawns, scallops, mussels, fish and squid on top a bed of white rice. The braising consommé will be packed separately for the delivery and all you need to do is to heat it up before pouring it over like a Chinese mui fan.

Besides the braised seafood rice, you can also get classic zichar dishes under the Lè Fusion’s Asian Specials such as the Stir Fry Dragon Green Scallion with Silver Sprout ($12), Sweet & Sour Lychee Pork ($16) or the Crispy Pork Belly Mantou ($12), which I especially like as the pork belly has zero of that porky aroma. In addition, it is slow-roasted with a crispy crackling skin that is similar to the Philippine’s lechon and then paired with marinated salted vegetables, mayonnaise and crushed peanuts; all sandwiched over a steamed mantou for a truly fusion dish of two cultures. When you order from the online shop, there is a free islandwide delivery for orders above $100 or enjoy 15% off when you quote LEFUSION15 for delivery orders.

However, I must admit that each burnt cheesecake that I have tried thus far has their distinct differences and each is bloody delicious, as I am a huge fan of cheeses. Tamashii’s rendition of the burnt basque cheesecake ($55) was elevated in terms of the luxuriousness with the addition of gold flakes and as you can see from the top, it has been deeply caramelized, but the surprise doesn’t end there. Cut it open and you will get a flowy creamy centre.

To commemorate the Hari Raya festival, Chilli Api has launched three Nasi Ambeng sets, each comprising of six different ingredients. Each of the set costs $88 and can serve up to 5 pax, but trust me that the portion can easily feed an additional one or two more persons. If you have more people in the family, you can also opt to upgrade to a larger set at the rate of $17.60/pax. The nasi ambeng sets require an order lead time of 3 working days and is available from now to 30 June 2020. To order, you can visit their website (link below), email or call their hotline at 6246 0163. The sets are available for islandwide delivery and delivery fees range from $15-$20.

Pictured is the Nasi Ambeng Set B which comes with a base of nasi lemak that has been infused with turmeric for the additional health benefits. The rice acts as a bedding for the accompanying ingredients as the ginormous plate is filled with generous chunks of beef rendang that has been stewed in the Chilli Api’s rempah which are made from scratch, grilled chicken in Satay spices, Balado long beans stir fried with their housemade chilli paste and to cut the savouriness are the battered and deep fried golden sweet cempadak fritters. The dishes complement the rich so well that it immediately whets your appetite from the get-go and you will keep going back for more. Another special mention goes to the moreish sambal belacan that brings a bit of heat but just enough to make it tolerable. Each set also comes with a choice of dessert: sliced fruit cake or handmade kueh salat, and i chose the latter as the combination of glutinous rice with pandan and coconut is just magic. Well as the saying goes, “go big or go home”, this big plate of food definitely sets the tone for the perfect #dineathomesg experience.

If you do not know, OmniMeat is 100% plant based with zero cholesterol and compared with uncooked regular ground meat, the calorie and total fat of OmniMeat is 68% and 95% lower respectively. For this comforting dish that goes perfect with a bowl of brown rice, half a packet of OmniMeat is stir-fried with beancurd and garnished with spring onion. The first step is to marinate the OmniMeat with a tablespoon of light soy sauce and vegetarian oyster sauce with two teaspoons of sugar and cornstarch and a pinch of ground white pepper. Pour a bit of oil onto the frying pan and once its heated up, fry the OmniMeat mixture till its cooked before adding the beancurd in it. Stir fry it carefully so that you do not smash the beancurd too much and after 10 minutes or so, remove from the heat, garnish it with some diced spring onion and it is ready to be served. If you prefer some heat, add in a few cut chilli into the mix.
