Spent our new year’s eve yesterday in Leeter Tunku Kopitiam’s lovely cozy space tucked in Grassroots Book Room. Had an ice rambutan tea and this pumpkin swissroll that we enjoyed very much - it was fluffy soft, with a super light cream and a mild pumpkin sweetness. Came with a side of orange jam that lent a zesty tang. Their bakes are on rotation, so pop by for a surprise on what’s available that day. Also, the internet signal’s pretty poor as they’re in a corner, but that’ll encourage you to set your phone aside and focus on the food and conversations!
Could smell these even before opening the box! The brownies were the dense, fudgey and super chocolatey sort - probably one of the most generously chocolatey ones I’ve had recently. These definitely satisfies any sweet tooth or strong chocolate cravings. Got to say though, it can get a bit gao so we had them cut into smaller squares to share. But this also means you’ve more to go around! More order details on @bakesbybilly.
Tea break at Bread Yard & of course we had to try their cruffins! They have 4 flavours - Passionfruit, Chocolate Hazelnut and these 2 that we went for, Matcha and Lcyhee. Both fillings were generous and weren’t too sweet, but a pity that they weren’t served as warm as we’d like it to be, so we were missing a more distinct crunch and flakiness. Perhaps better if they were heated for a tad bit longer time.
Dark chocolate sea salt brownies from Oishi Bekingu that are made with less sugar and non-processed ingredients with the goal to satisfy the sweet cravings without the unhealthy stuff added.

Took leave and went on our own mini food trail yesterday. One of our stops was the new Mad Roaster that sits on the 2nd floor of Amoy Food Centre. Included on each cup of their lattes and espresso-based coffees, is a story and a customised coloured logo by the refugees community they aim to support. The matcha latte was a lovely cup that you can request for less sweet, or top up to swap for oat milk.
On top of these drinks, they also serve freshly made brioche on rotation. It was the Chocolate Babka’s turn yesterday and what a delight it was. If you’re having it there, it’s served warm with a spread of custard and topped with crunchy salted-chocolate crumbles - had a crisp exterior and chocolatey fluffy centre that was sweetened just right! Our slice was thinner than usual, so the kind owners offered us two instead. Can’t wait to head back to catch the original and cinnamon brioche!
Freshly baked on order, these were super fragrant! Was a tiny bit cakey in the middle but still an enjoyable treat that were not sweet.
Bite-sized cookie treats to snack on from Mel.d Bakery - chocolate chips, chocolate chips with hazelnut and butter cookies. Both chocolate chips cookies were very crunchy and lightly chocolatey. Would have liked the chocolate parts to be a tad stronger though! Hazelnut one’s fun for that extra texture, while the butter cookies were buttery and melty without being too crumbly.

Got to know Wing a little while ago and had a try of her chocolate swiss roll and almond biscotti. A simple and no-frills chocolate roll - no fancy decor or toppings, and we enjoyed it! Cake was soft, while the chocolate cream wasn’t at all ‘oily’. It was clean, very nicely chocolatey (70% dark choc used) and not too sweet. Had it chilled and it was very much like ice cream with cake, though the cream ratio could definitely be higher. Biscottis were a little dry, but had a good crunch and a generous amount of almonds. Wing’s in midst of tweaking her bakes and will be opening for orders soon - more order details on @wing_homebaker!
Was the least favourite out of the 3 flavours tried. Though the cake itself also had an equally good soft and fluffy texture, the flavours weren’t as pronounced. Makes a good choice if you’d prefer something less sweet or fancy though!
Cocoa Fields’ brownies come in this assortment box of 4 - salted caramel, speculoos, roasted marshmallow with white chocolate and nuts with nutella. Texture is in between being fudgey / cakey, leaning a bit more to the latter and all has a thick molten filling. The salted caramel was our favourite, it had a well balanced salty-sweet profile, a lovely change from the usually sweet brownies. Order details on @cocoafields.sg!
How cute are these huat kuehs from Mr Bready! They have many fun flavours available on rotation - managed to get the black sesame, matcha and gula melaka sweet potato this morning. These are much softer and fluffier than everyone’s usual impression of the denser type of huat kuehs. The black sesame was lovely and my favourite out of the 3. It was nutty, fragrant and had just the right amount of sweetness. Didn’t expect the flavour to be so distinct! They seem to sell out quite quickly, so it’s good to reserve before heading down.
These came in a bag of 5. Had them heated up and the exterior was nicely crisp while the rich chocolate filling was oozy. Chocolate was just a touch sweeter than I would have liked, but the bread was soft inside and it’s pretty value for money for what you get!
