Desserts
With the influx of foreign talents such as Pablo and Bake, I felt a sense of patriotism (it's still August 🇸🇬) buying these beauties. I've lost count the number of times I've walked out with a happy box of goodies. And unlike their cheesy Japanese counterparts, Tarte keeps coming up with new flavours to keep your taste buds tingling!
If you're looking for a dine-in option, you can bring the tarts to the restaurant next door. Sit by the window, it's a nice spot to people watch 👀
The hunt for an authentic bowl of chendol on Labour Day took longer than expected. First stop was Dove desserts but sadly it was closed. And knowing our luck with hawker stalls, we were all ready to settle for nearby Creamier. But lo and behold it was open! Beautiful pale hues of Pandan green buried under a dome of shaved ice, none of those radioactive green worms we are so used to. They also run a cheng tng stall in the same hawker centre, but HS said it doesn't beat his favourite Adam one. Nothing's better than any icy dessert in our balmy weather☺️
Sigh....my all time favourite muffins😌. If I were a muffin, I'd want to be a chocolat n spize muffin. It doesn't matter if I have a muffin top that overflows far beyond my waistband, or that I don't have pretty frosting to cover up my blemishes, unlike my cupcake cousins. But I am perfect in every other way possible🙆🏻.
I've been meaning to try these for the longest time- twice I've been in the area and both times they were closed. So nothing's better than coming home to see these three beauties sitting pretty in my fridge 🙈. The family was impressed by the quality and flavours of all three. Each of them had its own unique personality, but cradled by the same thin and crisp shell. The pistachio was my personal favourite, just look at that envious green! Followed closely by the orange which was a surprise because I wasn't expecting such a lovely lemony filling beneath. I love me a good ole lemon tart, the more tart the better (pun intended 😉). The strawberry was as perfect as a strawberry tart can get, but somehow it didn't have any "oomph" factor. Does that even make sense? Haha I wonder as I type this, do readers get what I'm trying to convey with my word vomit. Or are there even readers at all... 🙃
I came across this Japanese bakery this morning while surfing Instagram (should've been studying but I was bored out of my mind) and took a screenshot as I always do. I have a whole album of places to try but hardly ever get down to actually checking them out. So I surprised myself when we actually went down to this lil hole-in-the-wall cake shop right after a Two Wings dinner nearby. As we approached it from a distance, the sign said it was closed and they were packing up. But lucky for us, one of the girls gestured for me to come in (she could probably see the sadness and tears welling up in my eyes). Okay back to the food, cos that's what we're all here for, right? The Mount Fuji Cake (what a cutie name☺️) was light and fluffy, with whole chestnuts buried in the cream between the layers of chocolate sponge. A crisp thin puff pastry in the centre was a nice surprise. I preferred this to the strawberry Mille feuille which had too thick a layer of cream for my liking, but I suppose the layers of puff pastry were a nice juxtaposition to it. Would I come back? Hm, if I'm in the area. I did see my favourite muffin shop nearby 😉
