Brew-tiful Cafe

After Black is a cafe located right accross Sunway University and located in same row as Garage51. This cafe is always filled with people who craves for food or just simply doing work while hanging out.

On this visit, I tried their homemade cake available at that day, a macadamia cheesecake with salted caramel sauce (RM10.90) with a cup of latte (RM9.90). Everything was okay. Their salted caramel sauce on the cake was ok, I mean the combination between the sweetness and saltiness was okay. The cheesecake would be better if it could be smoother though.

A gem hidden amidst the ancient Petaling Street. This used-to-be brothel space is transformed into a lovely modern version of vintage Malaysian atmosphere restaurant slash cafe. For a heavy meal, I orderd Hongkie Beef Stew (RM21), a 12-hours slow cooked Cantonese style beef served on top of chunky mash and gravy.

My beef was not that tender even though it is claimed to be slow cooked for 12-hours. My mom would do a better job with her pressure cooker at home. The mash was nice and well seasoned. What I love about it was the little potato chunks hidden inside the mash, resulting nice texture. The vegetable served could need more seasoning and more cooking time.

This hidden gem is located in SS13, inside EX8 building to be exact. The building is very easy to be spotted. Just look for the only black building in the area. For more detail, EX8 building shares the same space with City Harvest church, Food Industrie, and Ex8rcize gym, making it a perfect place to chill after church or your daily exercise too! The industrial design ambience is adapted from the EX8 building design itself. This two floored cafe is quite opened because of the huge glass covering most of the front and upper part. Hence, it is preferably to visit in the afternoon when the sun starts to get warmer or try to find seats covered with shades.

Have a seat and grab a cup of latte (RM11).I also had a slice of salted caramel cake which is good for you who likes sweet dishes (RM12). For me it was strange because the cake tasted too sweet. The cake itself is already sweet and later added with additional sweet cream icing. However, the salted caramel sauce was good! This place is also convenient because Food Industrie is just next door. So if anybody is craving for something heavy, they will just have to drag their chair across the glass wall.

Don't miss the infamous gorgeous chandelier hanging on the ceiling near the second floor!

When I first arrived at this place, the front door area didn't really interest me to spend my time in this cafe. I looked up for some review and was convinced to go inside. The people were friendly and the place was very cozy with cute decorations and furniture! You can choose between sitting on tables which were designed like classic granny's old sewing machine or just lay low on the comfy bean bags. I love that they put an old bicycle as a decoration (and this is one of the strongest reason I picked this place!). Also a special mention for the Kolumpo movie poster hanged on the kitchen wall.

Rekindle is filled with so many choices of beautiful and tempting cakes, from brownies to alcohol cakes! Price varies from RM12-16. Unfortunately, I came there to do work so I forbid myself to buy any cake or I would just end up just eating cake only. I will definitely buy a slice or two on my next visit!

One menu that made me curious was butterscotch coffee. The price was quite normal for a flavored coffee (RM12). For coffee, it tasted very sweet. I usually don't like sweet coffee but I found this coffee pleasantly sweet which means I don't hate it but don't love it as well. Most probably will come here again to sample the gorgeous cakes!
