Chicken and Mushroom Aglio Penne ($12 nett). This place, which looks like it's run by at least one Italian, serves up pasta plates and sandwiches for lunch from $12-$20 in the heart of the CBD. Sadly, nothing to shout about. A little too light on taste and aroma.
Smells wafting out of the picture for this one. Buttermilk biscuits are a hallmark of Southern American cooking. The biscuit here is crisp on the top, fluffy crumbs within. More than decent, but what really sealed the deal was the super light, creamy and aromatic honey butter that is churned up in house. 💫
We smeared a dollop of the biscuit, and took a bite - it was a buttermilk-mixed-buttery, creamy aroma and that wonderful smell that comes from an alluring baked biscuit. Irresistible. One of our fav, if not the fav item here.
Half-rack of smoky sweet Kansas-BBQ ribs. If you like classic ribs in BBQ sauce, this will be one down your alley. The succulent meat has a smoky flavour with sweetness and at the edges, comes with a caramelised char on the exterior. Apparently the newest flavour in their collection. Ain't a born rib lover, in fact only started having it a few years back, but I liked that the meat wasn't dry. For flavours, I preferred the other more savoury flavour - Asian spicy.
💫
Glad to finally tick the ribs from this place off my list, after hearing so much about it. $27.90 for half and 2 sides, which is enough for 2 in my opinion. Must try the corn bread as well. Bottom line: good place if you want a rib fix. Better than another known chain T that's been around.
The most 'European' style meal I have had outside of Europe. #Throwback to our insane spread. Think Viennese schnitzel; pesto prawns linguine; Viennese crispy chicken; bohemian pork roast that had a crispy skin but slightly dry meat (pity); sweet-savoury spinach spaetzle (spinach egg pasta).
💫
Of these, the spinach spaetzle (means 'sparrow' in German - so apt) stood out, just because it's my first time having those little buttons of egg noodles that resembles compact-shaped sparrows. Slightly chewy with a doughy bite. Now if only it was less sweet and more savoury. Service here is superb - they attempted service recovery for one of the dishes here which turned out less than ideal. Just this alone made up for that one dish.
💫
Perhaps not for everyone's palate, but if you want a taste of Austria/Hungarian, this is the place to go. Prices range from $15++ to $30++ for mains. Be sure to must get the signature Kaiserschmarnn - Emperor's dessert (see 12 Jan post).
This is lo-hei - individual portion. Fitting indeed for an omakase. Lo and behold the ordinary raisin here. It hides a super-strong rum punch. Little wonder after we knew it was house-soaked.
💫
Part of the 12-course CNY omakase set ($88++) which had some really good hits. Review on the blog - herpenandfork.blogspot.sg
Never been a fan of choux puffs, or any cream puffs. Till this. 💫
Matcha cream that is full of matcha flavour without being overpowering and not cloyingly sweet at all. It is wonderfully light, and when had cold, tastes delightful like ice cream but not in the slightest bit heavy. The thin, slightly chewy choux shell retains that hint of buttery-eggy aroma and the cream just flows gloriously upon the slightest bite. Also slightly crunchy at the top. $4.30 for one, but i'll willingly shell out any time. Shuu good - top of my list.
💫
Be careful carrying it around. The cream flows out at the slightest pop/pressure
Found back that little taste of Europe here tonight. Kaiserschmarrn, or, Emperor's Pancakes ($15). Slightly poofy little pieces served cut, sprinkled with generous cinnamon sugar.
💫
The texture is just that bit of fluffy but still light enough; a little crisp on that outside and buttery fragrance that permeates. The signature here - little wonder. Reminiscent of French toast but eggier.
Seafood otah pizza ($18), Homemade pizza dough really has a difference with its delightful chew. This pizza is one for those into strong flavours, with the spicy fragrance from the otah, oomph of the flavour-packed sambal, a zing from the onions and savouriness of all the cheese. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Good spot away from the crowds
Oven-baked salmon that flakes off with every forkful, rounded off with a creamy mash and truffle cream sauce. Not dry luckily. Guess I wasn't expecting much from a club so this surpassed. 💫
The semi buffet was pretty decent, comprising of a cold selection of oysters, sashimi, mushroom soup to desserts such as ice cream(green tea!), choc fondue and cream cakes. An 'offline' day away from tech gadgets; just enjoying the sights and breeze from a yacht. Not simple, but so thankful.
When I heard the description of this Chicken Pozharsky -- 'minced chicken breaded and fried', I must admit I wasn't keen, but still went ahead and ordered since didn't know what else would fit mum. But oh don't you judge by the description. 💫
This came - 2 sizeable pieces soooo juicy on the inside that the juices dripped out when cut. We enjoyed every single, well-seasoned on outside and inside, bite of it. ($20)
This plus, the customary provided wonderfully warm, soft and fluffy hainanese bun served with butter to start, was enough for 2 ladies. Totally perked our moods, and can see why their popularity continues at this Russian outfit. We had the borsch as well. Can't wait to return to try the Shashlik.
Chargrilled rump steak with watercress, against a great city view in the day. Certainly nothing disappointed, even if not all wowed.
3-course lunch sets daily, on weekends too, at $49++. One of the most value-for-money lunch places with a view. Review on http://herpenandfork.blogspot.sg/2016/05/salt-grill-and-sky-bar-lunch-menu.html?m
