Eating my way across the border into the Malaysian Territory, especially where the cafe scene is becoming increasingly trendy! πŸ˜›

It’s a Good Friday indeed having brunch here at Faculty of Caffeine. This cafe is just a short 5-10 mins walk from City Square Mall which was great because we were starving when we reached (reason: we spent 3 hours clearing customs...) I had the Bacon and Eggs Waffles: Fluffy waffles with mustard seed butter, buttery scrambled eggs, beef bacon. My brunch date had went for the full flair: The Breakfast, with additional sautΓ©ed mushrooms, crispy hash brown and stewed chickpeas. The slight variation from the usual toast is pretty interesting and there are other heavier options on the menu too (pasta, rice bowls) so it should be a rather nice lunch spot too. ☺️

One of my favourite JB cafes in the Jalan Dhoby area mainly because of the lovely flower-themed ambience of this 2-storied establishment. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict and I'd recommend this one because instead of hollandaise sauce, it comes with a healthier pesto sauce spread on the toast. Apart of coffee, they sell quite a selection of refreshing fruit-based beverages. Their cakes look pretty and nice for pictures but I'd personally give those a miss, not the best! (The carrot cake was way too moist for my liking!)

Don't be fooled by the word "Cafe" in its name, this restaurant on the basement level of City Square Mall does more than breads. Offering a wide selection ranging from Western to Asian cuisines, this place is good for groups with different eating preferences. It's no wonder we find ourselves constantly revisiting this place. The generous serving of the Ayam Penyet set came with chicken wing, satay, fried tempeh, vegetable sticks, soup and buttery rice. πŸ‘πŸ»

Visited one of the more popular cafe in this area and I'm really loving the modern interior of this cafe! The Soft Shell Crab Bao (MYR29.90) with fries was an interesting variation from the usual brunch fare. The crab, still crispy, was topped with chilli aioli mayo and set on a bed of onions and two buttered buns. The best part was the hand-cut fries dipped in that wasabi mayo. 😍 The Friendly Eggs Benny (MYR23.90) with Smoked Salmon was the more conventional brunch option, but the eggs were too overcooked and not as runny as I'd like them to be. We had the Salted Egg Churros (MYR16.90) and Dark Chocolate Churros (MYR14.90) for dessert as well, and I personally preferred the sweeter chocolate one over the more novel salted egg version!

Cafe hopped across the Singapore-JB border today to a quiet, rustic cafe along Jalan Dhoby road. The flower-themed cafe had cute decor, great ambience, good customer service, wifi and power plugs; everything that draws me into a cafe. Their drinks menu had lots of interesting concoctions of different juices. I had the one with coconut, lime, mint and flower ice cube (MYR15.90) which was absolutely refreshing on a hot afternoon, I'd highly recommend it! (Also loved the subtle incorporation of flowers into the drink). There was a good assortment of cakes at the front counter as well, and we shared a slice of purple carrot cake (MYR11) which was moist and interestingly had bits of purple carrot! The brunch food didn't leave much of an impression however. I had the Baked Eggs (MYR16) which came with eggs, button mushrooms, tomatoes, basil pesto and buttered toast, which was really tasty (pesto sauce was good!) but the eggs were way too overcooked. Overall, I'd recommend this place for its drinks and desserts and a lovely ambience!
