The best of both worlds can be had here with adjoining stalls selling excellent roast meat and wanton mee. The sio bak (roast pork) is the best I've had so far, with its delightfully crispy skin and tender meat. Sweet-smoky caramelisation also brought out the natural flavours of the melt-in-the-mouth char siew.

The wanton mee was something else as well. It tasted very similar to Kok Kee's winning umami sauce, only it comes with springier noodles and way better char siew ☺️

Definitely a keeper in my books.

Cali maki and the special prawn and avocado maki. #dinner #sgfood #sushi

As it's getting late and we are feeling lazy to venture out far, I searched and found this quaint little Japanese restaurant tucked admist the quiet Dairy Farm estate along Upper Bukit Timah.
Drove 2 rounds and had to walk a little before arriving here. A hidden find indeed!
Baby ordered tempura set (S$16.80) which consisted of miso soup, appetizer (fish cubes) and salad. The tempura prawns were done nicely, with its light and fluffy batter.
Ordered Mentai Maki (S$17.80) to share. Stuffed with avocado and crabmeat, topped with aburi salmon and mentai sauce, we love this combination! But it would have been better if its served a little warmer.
My salmon garlic fried rice (S$10.50) is fragrant and full of salmon chucks and crab meat. Yummy!

I can't believe today was the first time I've been to Tenryu despite it being so near my workplace. I've seen good reviews about their sashimi so I decided to go for their chirashi don, and I definitely made a good choice.

For only $19.80 (no ++, they don't charge GST or service charge!) I got the following: two slices each of salmon, salmon belly, tuna, yellowtail and tamagoyaki, as well as a slice of swordfish and tako. These were all fresh and thickly cut, which totally satisfied my chirashi craving by the time I was done.

It's a small place and they seemed a little short-handed during the lunch hour, but the service was good and friendly. I'll definitely be back for more affordable Japanese goodness!

@tenryusg's sexy mentai maki. thankyou.
.
i always have high regards to japanese garlic fried rice and almost a yardstick to measure if i like the japanese restaurant. sadly, i was not impressed at tenryu, located inside diary farm condo. but one can definitely play safe and go for the maki, surprisingly good.

(THIS IS A GIANT XIAO LONG BAO WITH A BUBBLE TEA STRAW!!) From desserts, burgers and ramen to huge slabs of juicy steaks, supersized dishes are actually widely available albeit complaints about small food portions served at cafes in Singapore. Whichever the case, huge food portions mean more food for us, which translates to a very happy tummy. Feed your hungry souls today with these 10 huge dishes around Singapore!

From Tuk Tuk Cha, opened last week at Hillion Mall. Same old crispy, garlicky and buttery toast that I yearn for, now served with chili sauce at the side but I definitely prefer it as it is without the chili. The dine-in area is huge for this outlet, and the kitchen also serves up a limited variety of noodle, curry and rice dishes. Reckon it's a spot I would be visiting very often especially since it's on the way to school!

Their puff is so soft and the cream taste good. Highly recommended Japanese sweet treats at reasonable price.

Admittedly it would be a lot harder to resist Chateraise's cheap ice-creams considering there is now a new outlet at Hillion Mall situated just right beside llaollao. Definitely enjoyed this — some would say that they couldn't complain at $1.20 but I would say I have nothing to complain anyway. Love how the salted caramel has this fragrant, syrupy/honey fragrance lingering with every bite.

(PS: The service here is kinda slow; probably still getting familiar with the operations while my ice-cream was happily melting away in the pack while I wait for a couple of minutes for a few equally slow customers in front; oh well. That being said; never had I seen an emptier llaollao outlet against a totally slammed Chateraise either lol)

I'm always on the lookout for solid HK milk tea in Singapore and this ranks pretty high on my list! Sock-pulled, super gao but not overly sweet milk tea served in a bottle that is stashed in a bucket of ice. Gimmicky as it looks, the ice keeps the drink chilled but not watered down — just the way I like it to be! #Burpproved

While this stall in Block 163 Gangsa Road's coffee shop also serves other dishes like porridge, mee hoon kuey and crispy e-mee, it is the humble instant noodles — otherwise known as "Ke Kou Mian" ("tasty noodles" in Mandarin) — that people rave about. Operations start only at 2am (they close at noon), after the other stalls have packed up, and streams of customers flock here through the night and into the morning. The shop owner is shorthanded in the wee hours, so expect the waiting time to stretch from 30 minutes to an hour. Go for the Pork Koka Noodles with egg (from $3) in the original flavour. Its broth is simmered for over 10 hours and they are generous with both the minced and sliced pork. Those who can handle the heat should go for the Spicy version with egg — it'll wake you right up!
Avg price: $5 per person

Having only seen it on TV, my impression of Hakka Abacus Seeds has always been of a firm yam “gnocchi” with its signature flat round shape and distinct indentation in the middle. Thus I was surprised (and maybe even a little disappointed) to find The Beef House’s rendition ($2) to be missing the dimple in the middle. However, the taste was not compromised and certainly not the texture (as assured by Ni Zhen with her Hakka roots).

Soft, chewy, and a touch starchy, each button held just the right amount of bite. Each glistening yet not greasy, the yam seeds were kneaded with pumpkin and had the added sweetness which I absolutely adore. And though I haven’t had others to compare by, their suan pan zi was pretty well-executed. The bits of dried mushroom and hei bi also supplied a great umami flavour.

Next to it, packed full of dried shrimps and turnips, their Hakka Soon Kuehs ($1) are not to be missed. With a “QQ” skin, ours were cut for easy consuming and to reveal the crunchy fillings that exploded with each bite.
