Good Hawker
Glorious. From the pic you can tell the red bean paste quality. It's rather dense and thick and has very good flavour, unlike the sugared up nonsense at most places
The meat has a lot of bite and there's not much sauce, which is great because then unlike most versions elsewhere, you can finally taste the meat. It's also more salty and less savoury than normal
Good stuff
Loosely packed, good bounce. You can tell they use good ingredients but this is too mild (not umami enough) for me
Fat, fat fillings. The skin has this particular thin bite when it's cooled down. Crunchy bamboo shoots? (They were too busy for me to ask) within were lovely
Queue at 6am is almost nonexistent and moves quickly
I'm sorry but people who don't understand the hype really just cannot appreciate greatness. They're consistent, seeing how many return customers are here
Some people say their char siew are dry. To some extent, that is true. However, it's sliced thinly and possess a strong marination if you chew, which works great w their noodles. Their noodles are seriously one of a kind, very artisanal and the texture is almost bouncy, that's how unique it is. The sweet mildly spicy sauce works with the above and the good pork lard to deliver flavourbombs.
Wantons were something else as well. Skin was similarly artisanal, supple and firm yet still slippery enough. Minced meat filling was tender enough, bouncy as well, and had a mild salty flavour in a lovely way. Almost top tier stuff
On a weekday, queue is about 15mins but they're very reasonable because they take orders in 10 people's advance along the queue, after which you are free to come back and collect your food.
The only complaint would be that the portion is small, but for a Michelin guide place w clearly high quality everything, it's only reasonable they reduce portions to make sure prices are such(other places would have double the price for bigger portions)
They don't have their mochi series
This rlly was good. It's got this very special complex bitter note, and the lack of sugar was perfect for this coffee
Must try, if you're already here
Small doesn't have egg
It has abit of heat but lacks body. With the tangy chili, it's good. But not good enough to travel for since it's in the middle of nowhere, and definitely not the best. It annoys me that some professional food reviewers overhype these ulu places and waste everyone's time travelling
All the components were good. There's a nice balance of savouriness and mild sweetness from the veggies
Lovely stuff, worth a try if you're in the area
Why hasn't anyone reviewed this branch on burpple
Chili was very unique and flavourful, at the same time extremely well seasoned w sharp saltiness. Everything else was of good quality and after mixing, even small spicy was spicy enough, with sufficient umami coming thru the dark sauce. Even the soup was a good fishball broth.
They are quite unique so it's hard to compare, but the quality is worth the rave
Here the fried stuff is changed to fishcake which had a good bite
I'm sorry but the char siew sucks. Actually burnt and not v tender
Siobak had a strong hard crunch
Roasted ckn was tender and lovely
Rice was slightly chewy and very flavourful
Overall it's worth a visit if you're in the area, since it's quite expensive
PSA you can call to get a queue number in advance, please abuse this feature and stop waiting for 1h at this place
Soup was clean and slightly sweet from the herbs, meat was quite good. Ribs were slightly subpar, not as fatty/ gelatinous as it can be. Mutton balls were very soft, way too soft it's almost fishball texture. Leg tendon is incredibly tender. Tripe was alright but still a little stringy
Overall definitely decent but the location is alr ulu, so definitely not worth the 1h queue. But I guess if you can order in advance then it's still ok. Only the leg tendon rlly impressed, the rest weren't superb
