Almost like angmoh's cheese fondue, this cheesy nacho dip bbq hotplate is very much comforting and in my opinion, a great no-frills dinner choice for a group of friends.

-
Wide variety of ingredients here, including the popular marinated meat and the more interesting choices such as sea urchin and black squid ink balls. Place here is minimally done up so the focus is really on the cheese dip hotplate and the fresh ingredients served here.

If only all crappy days look like this.

-
As a pioneer in serving chilled crab, this signature cold crab ($31/pc, seasonal price) at Lee Do Restaurant deserves a thumb up.
-
Commonly perceived as a Teochew dish, this was traditionally served as part of the fuzhou cuisine here. The meat is fresh, sweet and easily comes off the shell. For those who aren't used to having chilled crab, I say give this a try!

Some may compare this to a fast food sandwich chain, but I see myself coming back to Toasties more often than the chain brand.

-
Sandwiches are handcrafted from scratch. Meat is made in-house, such as the mexican pulled beef ($8.90) which is marinated then slow cooked for 13 hours. One is also able to choose the type of artisan bread (my favourite has to be garlic oregano loaf), toppings and housemade dressing. Quite a good place for lunch too - weekday lunch sets go for $9.90 nett with drinks and fries included!

Weekends are for recharging our souls and tummy 😬

Stuffed ourselves silly with the spread of delicious cooked food (aka zhi-char) and fresh steamed seafood.

Burp!

My favourite here - padi garlic fried rice chicken ($20/half).

Marinated with rice flour, these delicious boneless chunks of fried rice chicken are seriously addictive. Skin remains crispy with the meat tender. Each piece is evenly coated with the savoury sauce, which is somewhat spicy and sweet. Some may find this a little greasy but that is exactly how I like it. -

Yup - these are silkworms pupae.

-
Apparently this silkworm pupae soup ($25) is a popular dish in Korea and a good side dish to go with Soju. Mustering my courage takes a while and even more so to getting used to the taste. Pungent, pea-turned-bad taste comes with the chewing of the bug (the cocoon is slightly crunch by the way) and that lingers around even after I forced its entrance down my throat. Okay, maybe not as bad, but I would not want to have this again.

This cafe is so aptly named - with a variety of pastries/desserts sourced from different bakeries/cafes available here, one can really "cafe hop in a box".

-
Tried a few cakes here and this strawberry shortcake ($7.50, pictured) is one of our favourites here. The cake is light and refreshing, with jelly-like strawberry layers that are easy on the palate.

Apart from a wide variety of bak kut teh served here, one of my favourites is this pacific clams ($15.80).

-
The original soup base is peppery but not overwhelming. With cut chilli and coriander leaf added to the soup base, this dish is even more flavourful to the already delicious bak kut teh.

Different from the usual local zhi-char flavours, the gravy used in this dish cleverly fuses the thai green curry flavour to the fresh sri lankan crabs ($85/kg, seasonal price).

The result is a creamy, fragrant pot of crab goodness! The hint of lemongrass goes really well with the sweet meat of the sri lankan crabs.

Kind of rhetorical to ask what makes a good satay bee hoon - the satay gravy.

At sin chew satay bee hoon (#02-162), the gravy is creamy with finely ground peanuts. Mix the bee hoon with the sauce and the fresh ingredients such as prawns, cuttlefish, tau pok and kangkong - simple, honest and -
Come early though, as the operating hours are short (close once ingredients are sold out) and apparently they only open for 4 days a week?
