Nasi lemak is a traditional Malay dish consisting of rice cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaves, served with a side of sambal, peanuts, deep fried anchovies, cucumber and half a boiled egg. Most versions may also include deep fried chicken, beef rendang, sambal squid, cockles or prawns.
β€’
Village Park is renown for their nasi lemak, and arguably one of the better ones in Kuala Lumpur. The rice here is fragrant has rich from the coconut broth, with the sambal a little spicy and not overtly sweet. The highlight of the restaurant however, really is its deep fried chicken with extra crunchy bits of flavourful flour adding to every bite. Definitely a must try.

Poke bowls are of contemporary Hawaiian cuisine which is traditionally made from raw tuna, served on rice with a garnishing of vegetables and layered with sauce. The modern interpretation of this dish internationally is highly influenced by Japanese cuisine which is apparent in the Hawaiian local diaspora.
β€’
The best thing about most poke restaurants today is the ability for you to choose what you want. This bowl was served with raw spicy salmon, served with julienned wakame, edamame, sweetcorn, a poached egg and garnished with furikake (dried bonito fish, seasoning, sugar, salt and MSG), pickled ginger, takuan (pickled radish) and drizzles of sriracha mayo. I also added some chuka idako (Japanese-Chinese style seasoned baby octopus) for RM5. My advice when selecting your ingredients is to choose what will give you the most umami punch. Honestly, Paperfish does one of the best poke bowls in Kuala Lumpur.

Clay pot chicken rice comes from Chinese cuisine and is found throughout Malaysia, Singapore and China. The rice is cooked in an earthen pot, together with marinated chicken in light and dark soy sauce, together with slivers of lap cheong (Chinese sausage) and salted fish.
β€’
The clay pot chicken rice here has a nice sweet savoury intense flavour to the juicy chicken, with the rice cooked perfectly. Because they use old pots, you get a nice char at the bottom resulting in umami rich crispy burnt rice. The salted fish adds a nice saltiness and top it up with chilli padi for a little kick. Also, treat yourself by asking to add chicken and a fried egg.

Nasi lemak is a Malay rice dish made from coconut rice served with a side of boiled egg, anchovies, peanuts, cucumber and sambal, with the occasional fried chicken on the side. Biryani is an Indian rice dish cooked with ghee (clarified butter), nutmeg, cloves, cardamom and an assortment indian spices.
β€’
The nasi lemak biryani at Maguldi was served with biryani rice, but had the addition of daun kesum (vietnamese mint), a herb commonly used in Malay cooking. It gave the very indian dish a very Malay touch, which made it quite interesting. The sambal has a good spicy kick to it, with a pronounced sweetness from the onions used. The chicken drumstick served on the side was an indian inspired ayam berempah, a traditional Malay fried chicken but with a more intense flavour. Quite a great nod to the intercultural culinary experience that is Malaysia.

Roast meats or siu mei (η‡’ε‘³) is a dish of Cantonese cuisine, found throughout Malaysia because of the Chinese diaspora. Dishes will usually include roast pork (siu yuk, 燒肉), barbecue pork (char siu, 叉燒), roast chicken rice (siu gaai, η‡’ι›ž) and an assortment of other roasts such as roast duck (siu ngaap, 燒鴨) and braised chicken (lou gaai, ζ»·ι›ž). The roast chicken rice here was glistening and flavourful, with sweet and savoury skin, but most importantly, how tender the flesh was. The char siu however, was simply outstanding, crispy charred on the outside, with a nice intense caramel flavour throughout every bite, it is their speciality after all. Do not miss ordering this dish. The roast pork wasn’t too bad, but was not the highlight of the roasts. A little on the expensive side coming to about RM60.00 odd for 4 people, but do give it a try.

Nasi berlauk (rice with mixed dishes) is a Kelantanese Malay rice dish, consisting of Siamese white rice, served with a side of coconut turmeric curry known as gulai. This is normally served with a gulai ayam (chicken in coconut turmeric curry) or gulai ikan tongkol (skipjack tuna). The dish is also served with some gulai sayur (vegetables such as long beans and cucumber), sambal belacan, half a boiled egg and a sliver of salted fish. What sets the gulai apart is that its usually fragrant and a bit spicier than other regional gulai.
β€’
The nasi berlauk here is served with a choice of chicken, beef, fish, prawn or squid. The rice portion here is just right, where the Siamese rice is drenched in a rich sweet and savoury curry, which Malaysians will call β€˜cukup lemak’ simply meaning β€œrich enough”. The chicken is cooked thoroughly with the flavour really seeping into its flesh, and the vegetables were sweet from the long cooking. A great way to eat nasi berlauk is for the spicy gulai to be drenched all over the rice for you to experience this dish in all its authenticity.

Nasi kerabu is a type of herbal salad-rice that consists. This herbal rice dish usually consists on shredded cabbage, shredded cucumber, long beans, bean sprouts and most importantly, the Laksa leaf. The rice is normally tinted blue with the petals of the bunga telang (clitoria flower), which gives it its iconic blue colour. This dish is also served with salted egg, keropok (prawn crackers) and budu (fermented fish sauce).
β€’
There are many variations of Nasi Kerabu, but I find not many does it the way this place does. Firstly, the rice isn't dyed with the bunga telang at all, leaving it a normal white colour. The ulam (raw salad components) itself only consist of cabbage and Laksa leaf. It's also served with a side of fried desiccated fish, which adds a nice crispy texture to the dish. What stands out the most about the dish is the sauce, which gives it a nice rich, sweet and mildly spicy flavour, one that is not commonly found. Although not familiar to many non-Kelantanese, this is how the Chinese Nasi Kerabu is normally made, which is a less sweet compared to Kelantanese fare. You have to try it to realise that it's an almost completely different dish.

This dish consist of coconut rice, served with a side of coconut braised cuttlefish, beef rendang, ulam raja (herb salad) and keropok (fish crackers).
.
The coconut rice was fragrant, with a thick and creamy coconut cuttlefish curry, and fragrant spiced rendang. Keropok added a nice crunch to the dish. However, it did lack the traditional sambal that is usually expected. Overall a very nice take on a traditional Malay dish.
