Local Food
@salmonwarriorsg is a rather new place in @singpostcentre that sells value for money salmon bowls! I got the Warrior Mentaiko Bowl which has salmon with both mentaiko and mala sauce and a choice of a base. I got udon which was chewy and went well with the sauces too! I added on the salmon miso soup which was worth it because it has melt in your mouth salmon cubes and the soup had seaweed and mushroom too! 😋
Tried paofan from @famouspaofan and they were delivered in these self cooking pots to ensure the food wasn't soggy or overcooked. It required 15mins of cooking but the food was good so I didn't mind. I got the double fish paofan which was flavourful yet not too salty. This came with scorched rice as well which was a bit hard but still pretty fragrant. The portion was pretty large too. Swipe to see what the packaging is like!
Just had really good tze char that other day and my favourite dish was the crab bee hoon 😍 The soup was flavorful and creamy, complemented by smooth thick bee hoon and crab meat. This was so shiok and especially good for a rainy day with the clay pot retaining the heat of this dish well. We had prawn paste chicken wings and cereal prawn and they were fragrant and crispy too! 😋
Claypot rice is also another comforting dish to have on rainy days. Chuang Yi Claypot Delights sell claypot rice along with other dishes to complement them. We got a set for 2 for $12.80 which comes with claypot, vegetables and a soup of the day. The claypot rice was tasty and packed with ingredients, along with plenty of charred bits at the bottom too. I found it to be a tad salty on its own, but it was balanced out with their chilli sauce which has a sour and spicy kick to it. I liked the vegetables as well, with the savoury gravy complementing the slight sweetness of the vegetables. The soup was just ok but my friend told me their other soups are better. Overall, it was a pretty good meal and the prices were reasonable too!
This bowl was filled with a lot of meat and it seems to be a combination of the chicken rice bowl and the signature rice bowl with chicken and meatballs in it. This was extremely filling and very satisfying.
You can choose to have this with teriyaki sauce/mayonnaise. We had this with teriyaki sauce and I liked how the sauce didn't overpower the flavour of the salmon. The salmon was not too cooked and very tender on the inside too.
I loved how much beef there was on this and how there was a strong aburi flavour in this. This was one of the favourites from those that I tried and it's super value for money too!
This had fried beancurd, meatballs and vegetables. We had this with thunder tea and the thunder tea flavours went well with the ingredients in this bowl. I usually don't like thunder tea but I enjoyed this quite a bit.
The chicken had crispy skin and the meat was tender. I loved how this was served with charred broccoli and it provided a nice balance to this bowl.
Overall we enjoyed the food a lot. They don't sell drinks but they serve free flow ice green tea instead!
Apart from Hakka Rice Bowls, @ahlocknco serves Min Jiang Kueh (MJK) as well. They have a chewy texture and are packed with ingredients. The following flavours are available:
- Peanut
- Charcoal Peanut
- Matcha Red Bean
- Charcoal Coconut
I enjoyed the texture and liked the peanut ones most with that extra crunch added to the MJKs too 😋
Thank you.again @ahlocknco for the invitation and for the abundance of MJK 😊
Finally made my way down to the highly raved King of Fried Rice and tried the new flavour, crab fried rice. It was pretty yummy and I liked it because it came at a good value (this was $10 whole the others were about $4-$6.50). I would have liked it more if there was more wok hei in this, but I did enjoy the crunchy roe that came with the juicy crabmeat 😋
Here's another "King of" place to add to my collection and with details of my visit to @kingofpaofan last week! I haven't liked paofan much because I haven't had any good ones but I enjoyed this a lot. I got the duo fish one which has both fried and sliced fish. I loved how the broth was so tasty and that there was scorched rice in this which was very fragrant. I found the fried fish to be quite salty when eaten with the broth but other than that I felt that this was a really good bowl of paofan especially at such a reasonable price of $6.50 too 😍 I went at 5pm on a weekday and didn't have to queue or wait long so try to go early if you can!!
