Japan, Endless Discovery
I shall take food recommendations from Xiaohongshu with a pinch of salt moving forward as they have failed us a few times before. This cafe is more for the gram than the taste.
The eatery has a 8-person seating each time and there is a high chance that you might have to wait in line. However, don’t give up and brave the queue as you will be rewarded with a comforting bowl of katsudon, a bed of rice with beaten eggs cooked on the spot and pork cutlet deep fried upon order. The magical tare sauce brings a touch of sweet and savoury flavour notes, making this an easy to eat bowl that is not surfeiting after a few bites.
If you have to queue for this, skip the line and eat something else. The experience at Ichiran Ramen was very underwhelming this time round despite the high excitement for it initially. It all came crushing down from the first bite as noodles were overly cooked, broth was kinda flat and not as creamy. Don’t even get me started on the chashu, it was too thinly sliced without much flavour at all.
Right on the other side of the Kaminari-mon Gate lies a takeaway shop of minced meat cutlets that are breaded and deep fried. As there is perpetually a long queue, you are guaranteed a fresh and piping hot batch when it’s your turn. The cutlet contains a blend of Koza pork and Japanese black beef, and together with sweet onions, every bite is such a delight.
Experience the peace among the noise through the process of coffee appreciation at Blue Bottle Coffee.
Imagine a group of people standing behind you, waiting for you to finish your bowl of ramen, so that one of them can have your seat. That is how the waiting arrangement is at Fūunji whereby you stand in queue behind the seating area for your turn. For some, it might be an intimidating and traumatising experience as you hurried down your bowl of tsukemen dipping noodles. Otherwise you can casually enjoy slurping down the umami dipping broth as it coats the chewy noodles so well.
Rich, creamy and slurpy broth, the chicken paitan ramen from Kagari Honten is a must-try in Ginza. With the addition of tender pieces of chicken, a plump wonton and noodles, this bowl is definitely worth the queuing time.

For all beef lovers, you've just got to try authentic kobe beef at least once in your life for that O.M.G. moment. You do not need strong gums as the meat literally melts in your mouth. No need for whatsoever seasoning, just grilled it gently for half a minute on each side and in goes into your mouth for an explosion of flavours. I will gladly let the fats grease my lips once again for this mouthwatering experience!

Exclusive to Starbucks Japan, this range of pudding especially the Matcha (¥320) one was absolutely divine for its matcha flavour, wobbly soft texture and a surprise at the bottom, which is a thick matcha sauce that provides a good contrast of bitter and sweet.

I don't know if it's magic or pure love that they put into making these. Comes in a plate of 6, these translucent jellies are coated with soybean powder and every order comes with a side of brown sugar syrup, made in-house, for pouring enthusiasts to attempt this pouring shot. Everything is just right about this plate, from the consistency of the jellies, to the nuttiness from the soybean and finally the sweetness punch from the syrup. Truly stunning.
