Kovan: Sticky, gooey curry rice! Ultimate sinful supper food 😂 Previous in-depth review: 6Mar

Rating: 7.4/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: People there are all really friendly & polite 😊 The porridge, soup and chendol from the same coffeeshop is nice. Fav dishes: Eggs, brinjal, cabbage, chicken wing

Cons: Long q's! Very salty. Not all dishes nice. So far fish, luncheon meat & fried pork chops 👎 Very hard to get parking.

Price: S$16 - 3rice, 6dishes

Jln Bersah, Berseh Food Centre: Famous fried oyster's here! It's really good already, even though i've had better. Still, def one of the nicer ones around 😃 Opens 6pm - 12mn! Give them a call to make sure.

Pros: Very strong wok hei flavour. Crispy bits. Juicy oysters, even when fully cooked (i hate raw oysters). Super 💗 the aunty there, so friendly & polite.
🍃
Cons: Too much "dry" eggs. I'm not a fan of eggs.. & prefer if it's a bit undercooked or "wet". Starchy bits not chunky & abundant enough. Parking's a nightmare.

Price: S$5, 8, 10, mine is $5 plate

This place has remained popular all these years, and for good reason! Not the best but very shiok when you eat it 😊 Overall very satisfied & one of the better chicken rice in SG.

Pros: Thick chunky meat & chicken is cold w "jelly" (chicken thigh). The skin is very silky! Nice soup, fragrant rice.
💗
Cons: Long q's during peak hrs, but moves pretty fast. Always sold out of this or that item. Portions shrinking, px increasing. Rice undercooked. Meat tad bit dry. Overall standard did drop.
💗
Price: S$16 - chicken thigh 2pax, veg

Bugis: Long-time famous fish soup restaurant! Perfect when you have no appetite or cravings. Not a fan, just a place for a quick bowl of fish soup. But if you have not tried it before, it's worth trying at least once 😊 I do not recommend the other dishes.

Pros: Closes pretty late. Tasty fish soup! Convenient location. Serves up variety of tze char dishes and fish steamboat.
🐟
Cons: Long q's. Not the best fish soup around. Fried fish was soaked too long prior to serving. Dishes hit & miss, mostly not nice.

Price: S$13.10 - fried fish bee hoon & porridge, lime juice

Dunman FC: Totally dig this 😍 Sad to see it disappearing for our local hawkers, not commonly found anymore. Fried beancurd with a pocket for stuffings comprising of egg, yam, fishcake, tau kwa and comes with duck rice sauce & chilli.

Rating: 7.8/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: Delicious & just fun to eat.

Cons: Sells out early, been there a few times around 2pm & they were already closing. Sauce is quite salty. Gets a bit "boring" when on to the 2nd piece, yet 1 is always never enough! 😅

Price: S$2 each (unsure)

Yummy laksa @janggut_laksa! Can't be bothered with whoever is the true originator of Katong laksa but will say one thing, i prefer this over 328 across the st. Fresh coconut milk does indeed make a difference. Def one of the best laksa's in SG!

Pros: Fresh coconut milk. Unique pale looking soup which is so intense. Love the eggs! Air-con place.
🌴
Cons: Too rich, unable to finish. Very jelat. I can never finish a bowl of laksa (any) without feeling nauseous 😩

Haven't had that many prawn noodles before to know what's really good - but i like this one. Prefer to order dry with separate soup though, so the flavour is unadulterated.

Rating: 7.6/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: Fresh prawns, generous ingredients. Pork ribs not dry. Flavoursome soup that's not too "thick" or "gao". Cons: Inconsistent. Flavour of soup varies from strong to weak. MSG. Long q during peak hrs.

Price: S$5 - clams with prawn

My grandma used to sell Hainanese chicken rice & have been eating it since young. Therefore, it's become one of my fav foods! If you are at Hougang Green, can try out this chicken rice stall, not too bad.

Rating: 7.2/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: Classic style chicken rice. Rice & soup is fragrant. Not too heavy on MSG. Char siew is 👍, i always ask for less fat. Generous portion of meat for 2.

Cons: Chicken was quite dry today - usually pretty tender. It's too salty, oily and sweet for some but i like strong flavours so ok for me. Not smth i will travel down for (but char siew 👍 & will pack home if i'm around the area). Utensils oily & dirty, don't think food is very clean as well even by hawker standards, no wonder it tastes good? 😂

Price: S$9 for everything pictured

One of my fav local food! This prawn noodles stall opens really early (they say 6am but sometimes not ready, 630am safest) & insane queues from then on, easing out till about lunch time before closing. Go early for the prawn noodles and lor mee which is famous too, but i prefer prawn noodles. They close once they sell out, reopening at night to sell hokkien mee. This is def one of the better prawn noodle stalls in SG for sure.

Rating: 8/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes

Pros: The prawn mee soup is extremely flavoursome. Ingredients well prepared, especially the pork slices.

Cons: Snaking long queues. Salty, MSG, oily (it's hawker food!) Aunty can get quite impatient & rude. They allow their regulars to cut queue but whatever. It adds on to the hawker experience. Standard has become inconsistent and dropped over the years, still good.

Price: S$3.50 - If ordering dry prawn mee takeaway, they refuse to pack soup

Tai Seng outlet: Yes guys, it's the infamous @hawkerchansoyachicken who was awarded a 1 Michelin ⭐ at his Smith St. eatery "Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle". Cantonese-style meats that are tasty & value-for-money! Is this the best? No. But at just $3.80 for a plate of chicken rice in air-con comfort to boot!? Count me in! 🏃

🍚
Pros: Good value. Nth crazy when i went, no q. Meats i had were really thick, lean, juicy - quite different in cooking style from usual chicken rice & not too greasy (but there's a lot of added oil). Beansprouts thick & crunchy. Noodles were awesome! 😍 Did not detect much MSG.
🍚
Cons: Too salty & oily towards the end. Flavour is flat - basically just the same sauce taste throughout. Don't like the noodles chilli. Meat isn't exactly tender.
🍚
Price: S$14.60

Famous Longhouse Lim Kee Beef Noodle - located at B1-21 at Golden mile FC! They have been featured on numerous publications. Have eaten here a few times and today was 👎 Overall i much prefer the Marine Parade FC beef noodles (near Macs)

Rating: 6.5/10

Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes (only if i'm there)

Pros: Generous amount of meat. The aunty is very friendly. Chilli is fragrant. Really tasty gravy, on days it's done well.

Cons: Heavy MSG usage. Inconsistent flavour. Not sure was it because i went to pack my lunch too early, they were not exactly ready yet. The gravy was quite thin & bland tasting. I'll usually get it during dinner & the taste is very rich, probably well simmered by then.

Price: S$5 - dry mixed beef noodles
