With outlets at Liang Seah Street and Novena, this is the go-to spot for when the Chinese dessert cravings hit. From the smooth Fresh Milk Steamed Egg ($3.50) to the thick and creamy Durian Sago ($6.50) and delightful Peanut Mochi ($2.40), there is something for everyone.

Usual suspects of meatballs, minced/ lean meat, mushrooms, crispy Ikan bilis & pork lard, this bakchormee stood out with the use of springy meesua without being too soggy; evenly coated with vinegar and chilli (which wasn't spicy!). Quite a bit of a wait during lunchtime and we were so hungry we ordered roti prata from the next stall. I will probably go for the larger $5 portion the next time I'm here!

💵: $9

🤔: As good as the last time I had it which was like 3/4 years back????? Recommend changing to red bean rice because it was yumz with the different texture~ Soup didn't dry my mouth out and spice was super tolerable 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Chef Damian's desserts were outstanding! His kuih bingka (baked tapioca cake) was paired with an excellent Gula Melaka and coconut ice cream. So good that even though I was bursting at my seams, I still stole a few more bites.

Tasted this plate of curry rice @ $4.00+! Curry given in a big scoop was thick and fragrant! With a wide selections of ingredients! What i ordered was the pork belly which was flavourful and fat! Super well mixed with their sauces! Also i added on chicken cutlet and egg which makes the whole plate of rice fulfiling and great! They open till late night and its definitely for people whom like to dine in a traditional eating house situated at the road side near jalan besar!

An awesome supper option here along Jalan Besar (aside from the popular Scissors Cut Curry Rice and Pig Organ Soup) is this authentic heng hwa restaurant, Ming Chung. Their best dish here is definitely their lala beehoon ($8 for medium size), for its perfect texture, sweet umami flavours and generous portion of seafood. Their lala clans are not to be missed too. At $12 for a small portion, expect sweet and fresh lala clams that have been thoroughly cleaned so you barely taste/ feel sand, cooked in a light mix of chili and tomato sauce, which enhances the umami flavour. With no GST and service charge, I dare say this is very much value for money.

Anyone who’s a pesto fan can tell you how hard it is to nail down the perfect pesto. The variations come from the use of different types of nuts (walnuts, cashew and even almonds) and combination of greens (basil, arugula, parsley).

This dish uses the classic basil pesto recipe which originated from Genoa, and it works. Sometimes simplicity is all you need :) Loved the unique spin on the dish with crumbled boiled potatoes and grilled cucumbers, which is well-blended with the pesto and goes surprisingly well with the other elements. Altogether, a pretty comforting dish.

Was skeptical trying the 𝙃𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙏𝙤𝙖𝙨𝙩 (~$14), bc frankly, its pricey for toast, and how can everyone like it?
.
But oh BOY. The mascarpone🥰. Smoother than ricotta, fluffier and lighter than cream cheese, the mascarpone met its sweeter match in the form of honey. Spread out generously on the famous sourdough, and you got yourself the perfect brunch toast 🍞
.
The honey, though clearly visible, wasn’t that obvious. Some parts were inbalanced and drowned out by the mascarpone.

I really liked the chocolate orange escargot which had bits of orange in it. The flavours were really fragrant and complemented each other well too!

Freshly-made chee cheong fun - The white sheets, lightly coated with light soya sauce, slid around playfully on my tongue. The crunchy prawn was just the icing on the cake.

The addition of toasted black sesame seeds provides a subtle trace of nutty note and a nice crunchy texture to the already flavourful wrap. It is my definite order each time I'm here!

Oven-baked Molten Eggs - When I first ordered this, I was scratching my head as to how the eggs are able to keep its shape with the yolks perfectly done(still molten). My guess is this - the eggs are probably sous-vide first, crack open on the tortilla wrap and broil quickly with added cheese on top, forming that killer cheese blanket. A simple dish that allows the freshness of ingredients to shine through and through. .

Oh and that lovely Pen & Pencil house blend - my first coffee in weeks. Still as punchy as before!

Known for its ice cream and waffles, this Burpple Hot 100 favourite is completely deserving of its place in our list. Their freshly churned ice cream is consistently good, and we like how they often introduce seasonal flavours to keep things fresh. They have several knockout flavours on their regular menu, with Roasted Pistachio ($4.50) and Earl Grey Lavender ($3.50) topping the list of the Burpple community's favourites. Ice cream here starts from $3.50 a scoop, with premium flavours going at $4.50 a scoop. If it's available, don't hesitate to have a scoop of the Peanut Butter and Jelly ($4.50), which hits the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Consider getting their fluffy Waffle ($9 with a scoop of ice cream), which soaks up the ice cream perfectly while remaining crisp around the edges. Pro tip: They are opening a new outlet in Tiong Bahru in the fourth quarter of the year — we can't wait!
Avg Price: $5 per person
