πŸ’šThere's also an option of having a matcha cream filled chiffon cake along with the softserve at the same price. However, I decided to go for purely the softserve to fully savour and appreciate the earthy umami flavour of uji matcha. Only for the hardcore matchaholics- this softserve bears an intense, robust earthy note that is coupled with a characteristic lingering bitter undertone. Texture is smooth albeit a little icy. Psst: There's also houjicha flavour too but a pity that's only available during weekends!

Thanks @matchayasg for kindly accommodating to my request at no additional cost ☺️. Mystery flavour that's available for now would be kinako kuromitsu (till 17 sept). The ice blended beverage had a distinctive, roasted flavour and lingering aroma of kinako, with kuromitsu syrup blending in harmoniously with its pleasant tinge of natural sweetness. On the downside, I didn't quite enjoy the texture of the beverage that consisted of shards of ice crystals, resulting in a coarse and gritty mouthfeel to a supposedly thick, creamy beverage. Nevertheless, the softserve compensated for my slight disappointment, being as enjoyable and awesome as always! πŸ’š The kinako kuromitsu softserve leaned towards a sweeter profile, with a subtle roasted flavour whereas the matcha, as usual, bears a characteristic earthy note and a bitter undertone .

Though it's stated yuzu, the cake itself is a green tea flavoured one, with yuzu peels and chocolate chips embedded within. Best eaten hot, with a soft and pillowy texture! The green tea flavour was pretty mild here, with the yuzu stealing the limelight with its citrusy, tangy flavour. Made with no oil and less sugar, this might be the reason for its slightly denser texture that could be a little dry for some. Great for the health and weight conscious and of course, for those without a fetish for desserts as this was pretty bland and healthy-tasting to me πŸ˜…. If green tea/yuzu aren't your kind of thing, there's also a cocoa flavoured steam cake with chestnuts embedded within .

Adorned with a matcha white chocolate shell coating, alternating squares of green tea and dark chocolate sponge are layered with buttercream, creating a visually appealing and unique checkered design. The texture of the sponge cake was soft, fluffy and cotton-like. Though the flavours of each component aren't distinctive, the texture won hands down, spongy and light that's complemented with substantial smooth butter cream, making it a perfect and sweet afternoon treat that's not too overwhelming or gelat. The exterior of matcha white chocolate coating was what I fancy most here, creamy and thick, luscious, milky with a subtle albeit distinctive earthy note that greatly resembled flavours of the green tea KitKat- a snack that I love and always indulge in. (PS: Only available till end October, hence do try it before it's off the shelves!) .

While the texture was on point with crisp edges, I would personally prefer if the interior was denser, with a soft, fluffy and cake-like texture. The batter also lacked the characteristic buttery fragrance too 😒. Thank god the homemade ice cream here made up for that slight disappointment I had for their waffles! Exclusively available for September are 3 tea flavours available in a single sitting: Uji matcha, genmaicha and houjicha. What a tea-riffic excuse for me to head down and try them all! As I have tried the genmaicha flavour previously, I decided to head straight for the other 2 tea flavours. The uji matcha is embedded with nibs of chocolate coated mixed nuts that added a pleasant crunch factor. Thank god it isn't the usual partner in crime: red bean that I personally loathe! πŸ™πŸ» The matcha flavour was surprisingly distinct, with a lingering earthy note and a bitter undertone. The intensity of flavour here would suit the matchaholics (which I am one too)! πŸ’š The houjicha flavour, on the other hand, paled in comparison. Despite having a distinctive roasted flavour, the intensity decreased gradually the more you indulge, which I would have wished for a reverse effect πŸ˜…. Texture for both flavours were smooth, creamy and melt-in-the mouth that I adore! πŸ’– (PS: Heard that 2 new Japanese inspired flavours are going to be launched soon too! Can't wait to try! πŸ˜‹) .

Apart from the lacklustre presentation, the serving also shrunk miserably
as compared to the ones served in cone. A pity I had only noticed this vast difference in size from other customers' orders of cones after I had polished off the entire portion of softserve (which was no kick given the small portion)! Approached the staff and told her about this issue but was only greeted with an abrupt reply of "oh sorry, I will let them know" with no compensation offered. Texture wise, it was soft, creamy albeit a little icy. The soy bean flavor turns out to be kinako, which came with a lingering roasted flavour and aroma that overpowered the matcha flavour. (PS: this is only available at the Kyoto fair at takashimaya till 3rd sept, Sunday. Do opt for the cones though otherwise u might end up with major disappointment and regrets in presentation and size, given the same cost incurred). .

Comprising of a base layer of salted cookie crumbs (surprisingly my favourite element here), topped with kuromitsu espuma (which I requested for less), genmaicha softserve, genmaicha warabi mochi and sprinkled with a little buckwheat rice puffs. The genmaicha softserve is thick and creamy with a lingering roasted aroma coupled with a subtle earthy note. Flavour was less intense and robust as compared to the matcha and houjicha flavours but still distinctive. The salted cookie crumbs were what I enjoyed most, a pleasant crunch factor coupled with a pleasant mild lingering saltiness that provides a great counter balance to the sweetness of the light and fluffy kuromitsu espuma. The genmaicha warabi mochi is firm albeit chewy, coated with genmaicha powder that came with a distinct and robust roasted, earthy flavour and aroma. Though I would have personally preferred for a stronger genmaicha flavour, the different elements constituting this parfait was a winning combination that I truly enjoyed! πŸ’–πŸ’š

Each set comes with an iced matcha latte topped up with either a matcha azuki donut (UFO) or matcha melon pan. Pretty cool and interesting presentation I would say, though they are served separately for easier consumption. The iced matcha latte was milky, with a distinct lingering earthy note that could have been stronger and less sweet IMO. It gets a little diluted after some time hence do drink it fast. As for the pastries that came along, the matcha azuki donut might appeal to those with a sweet tooth, with a matcha white chocolate coating atop the fluffy and doughy pastry that also came with azuki bean paste sandwiched within. On the other hand, the matcha melon pan was soft and pillowy with a crisp and polo-alike surface layer. On the downside, the flavours of matcha was faint and subtle for both desserts. Definitely not for the hardcore matchaholics (which I am one πŸ™ˆ). .

πŸ’šπŸ’š Swipe to the end to view the sizzling effect (and sound) as the sauce is poured onto the crepe cake. The matcha Mille crepe comes in distinctive layers of thinly sliced crepe coated with matcha cream and a thin base layer of azuki bean paste. Creamy and luscious with a subtle matcha flavour that was further enhanced with the thick matcha sauce that was sweet with a lingering earthy note. Personally I would have prefer a reduced sweetness and more intense matcha flavour in the sauce, which was a tad sweet for a liking. The matcha ice cream surprisingly exceeded my expectations, though the matcha flavour was pretty mild, there was a lingering and aromatic jasmine-like floral fragrance that I adore, a great companion to the crepe cake !

A thick, creamy and slightly grainy texture with a distinctive matcha flavour coupled with a pleasant tinge of saltiness from the salted egg, the substantial filling was a great pairing to the soft, pillowy bun dusted with matcha powder atop. Really love the service rendered here as well, with the kind and friendly staff offering to reheat our pastries after a long photo shoot sessionπŸ™ˆπŸ’•

πŸ’š Being a sucker for anything matcha, my anticipation for this turned out to be a dismay and disappointment to both the sight and sense 😞. Firstly, the presentation was all screwed up (logo supposed to be the at the other side- swipe to view). Okay enough of visuals... after it's all about the taste that matters right? And so... the matcha churros was well... just mediocre, akin to their usual churros dusted and sprinkled with some matcha powder. I had initially thought it would be a matcha-INFUSED churros but I guess my expectations were up too early. The only saving grace was the texture of the churros- crisp with a soft, doughy interior that I adore. They are also freshly fried and prepared upon order, which perhaps account for the fragrant batter. The softserve, on the other hand, could be easily given a miss. Texture was a tad too icy for my liking and the creamy, milky flavour tasted conventional and similar to the famous fast food chain's ice cream. Drizzled with chocolate sauce and served with crushed nuts (which I asked for it to be omitted), my personal advise would be to just get the churros in silo and head over to any fast food chains/ supermarket for a cheaper vanilla ice cream (if you require some cold pairing to the hot churros) .

A Japanese takeaway patisserie shop that specializes in cakes, pastries and also offers Japanese ice cream flavours, @chateraise.singapore is one of the most affordable places to go for your sweet tooth cravings. A striking resemblance to a magnum on stick, apart from its colour (and of course quality). Uji matcha flavoured ice cream adorned with a crisp, crackly matcha chocolate ganache, I was pleasantly surprised by the distinctive earthy note that also came with a characteristic bitter undertone. Though the texture could have been smoother and less icy, the flavours were on point, with a pleasant crunch factor from the matcha chocolate ganache as well .
