Must Eat @ Singapore
Personally I'd prefer the normal tart-crust compared to this flaky kind.. but nvm! It's $1. ๐

The hidden star of the show! Frankly I would be more upset if they sold out of the Char Siew than if they did on the Soya Sauce Chicken. Look how fat it is and it's thickly cut up so that you get to experience the full flavour and texture of every bite you take! The secret is in the marinade and that glazing sauce they use...
The noodles are first class as well, and for only $2.50 with a generous portion of Char Siew to go with it... it's a no brainer! ($3 if you add the roast pork but I've had better elsewhere)
After sending our princes and princess to school, me and my queen decided to take a slow drive to Chinatown for an early breakfast. Traffic was super horrible when small vehicles trying to be like Ferrari drivers and the big cars moving like a tortoise. We are so blessed it's not our daily routine . Anyway, we had the best Char Kway Tiao at Hong Lim Market, of course. And we also narrowed down to this stall. They have the longest queue and decided to give it a shot. Love their crispy sole fish especially when you are chewing it together with your noodles. Their broth has its unique taste and again why didn't I order soup instead ordered dry. To have a nice bowl of Bak Chor Mee when having it dry, vinegar plays an important role. Is it worth the wait? Ok lah! Will I go again? Yes ! This time I must remember to order soupy. Have a great day ahead ...
Everything was on-point! [Except this phone-cam quality photo ๐

Egg filling was silky smooth, super moist, and not overly sweet. That crust? Genius! Cripsy - like 1 crisp layer, not the pastry-messy kind. Like a mix between traditional and pastry crust. .
A bit more expensive than ur typical hawker center one, but promise u it worth every cent.

Months of talking about visiting "Ri Ri Hong Mala Xiang Guo" finally came to pass last evening. I joined the long but fast-moving queue to pick out the ingredients for two portions (to be shared among 3 of us) and asked to have one cooked "ๅฐ่พฃ" or lowest level of spiciness (top bowl in pic) and the other, the highest (bottom bowl). Also, I requested for both to be fried "wetter" as I had never had this dish that way before.
The distinction between the two bowls, which came to about $21 with two bowls of rice included, were apparent. I much preferred the spicier one as it was more fragrant. In future though, I shall stick with the drier style of stir-fry as it seems to accentuate the aroma of the Szechuan spices better.
They are also generous with the fishballs and fish cakes that came with the soup.
Yeap Seng Handmade Pau Tim
Brand names like Yeap Seng really strengthen my belief that it is possible to produce high quality food at very affordable prices.
I hesitated to use the word " brand name" for a second because Yeap seng is not as well publicised as other Pau shops but if you take a bite of their pastries and paus , you will know why you will be coming back for more ( and I frequently en- route just to patron their food).
The Char Siew Sou is so generously packed with well seasoned ( and not too salty or sweet ) lean chunky char siew and the pastry is so light and crusty. I haven't tasted a good char siew Sou in ages and I dare say this quality is equal or even better than some upmarket dim sum restaurants. Served warm, these generous sized char siew sous are only at SGD 0.90 and this makes the deal even sweeter.
I love their char siew paos ( also very generous with lean char siew filling ) and their red bean paus. Worthy to mention are also their pretty generous sized chicken siew paos ( chicken char siew filling encased with a crusty pao exterior ) which are also at Sgd 0.90 each . I have seen similar ones selling at raffles mrt for sgd 2.20 each ( you do the math ).
They have a new product - a sweet yam pastry ( also Sgd 0.90). ( think orh - nee encased in a buttery and crusty puff pastry ) . Orh - so - good !
I am thankful for an easy to use platform like burpple so that many more stalls as such ( which really deserve our attention ) are made known.
Quality food at very very affordable prices. I hope they keep this way for a Long time to come.
Glad to say this 1 Michelin star Soya Sauce Chicken's quality is as good as I remembered (even before it won the award)!! At $2.50/plate, its screams 'value for money'. QQ noodles, super tender chicken. Must order more!!!
