Seeking shelter from the rain here. Great ambient light, but such a pity there's not much of a view because of the construction all around.
Food wasn't spectacular; Toasted Chicken & Avocado Panini (47++RM) was the better of the 2 dishes we ordered, but I wouldn't come all the way here just for this. The chips were a bit lao hong (flat), which is a shame because it looked like it had so much potential to be delicious.
But hey, it's quite a sizeable sandwich & that deserves some merit 👌

Chunky Mushroom Soup (25++RM) with Mantou Croutons looked AMAZING but sadly was more salty than mushroom-hearty. Would not order again.

After having a bowl of beef noodles soup across the road at Shin Kee, I crossed the road to Lai Foong to try their beef noodles too, as this too was recommended to me by a friend.
Ordered a bowl of dry beef slices kuay teow (they ran out of egg noodles), which only comes in 1 size for 10.00 RM. It was good, but I preferred the Shin Kee one as it was more flavourful. Having said that, it's probably just a matter of preference really.
When I ordered just this 1 bowl, the uncle asked if that was all. Makes me think that usually people order other things to go along with it, e.g. intestines, beef balls, etc.
Ordered a small bowl of beef slices with egg noodles in soup (8.00 RM). The minced meat was delicious, & the beef slices are thin yet still as flavourful. I loved the springy egg noodles too. Will definitely return - even though I had to queue 10 mins (mid-day i.e during off peak hours) for it.
Apparently the best mua chee by a very famous elderly lady, Mdm Tang. There was a line for this & I read reports that sometimes she sells out by 3PM!
If you don't know where to locate Mdm Tang, just follow the sound. She plays a recording of herself shouting/hawking her mua chee on repeat (she has installed speakers in her push cart). Today, there was another stall nearby with a more modern feel - run by 2 youngsters, but no one around me seemed to want that.
There is value is old school cool, I guess. But most importantly, her mua chee is really delicious. Silky smooth yet soft & chewy, sprinkled with generous chopped peanuts. I ordered a variety pack of all flavours (5RM): original, mango, pandan, Ribena, black sesame 😁 Yes, I suppose the artificial flavours aren't good for you, but it's not every day that I would eat this, so... YOLO 😉
Chicken Wings (14RM for 4, the smallest portion) are salty AF & 100% would NOT recommend.
A mix of Beef & Mutton Satay, 10 pieces. This was 15RM, which costs additional because you're mixing varieties as opposed to just having 10 sticks of Mutton (13RM) or 10 sticks of Beef (14RM).
It was delicious though overglazed & very sweet. It's quite fatty, but you can spit out the fats like I did 😜 Sauce was very watered down.
Oyster Omelette is pretty something - this is the smallest portion at 14RM. To my dismay, the oysters were so small. But I liked how the crispy egg batter was different from what we usually have in Singapore. 🇸🇬
Located in the basement, I actually underestimated the size of this place. Many stalls with a good variety of hawker food all in 1 central location. I reckon this is a good place to start 😂
Ho Weng Kee's Wanton Mee with Char Siew (11.50 RM)
Noodles were great & springy. Don't expect much fats in the char siew, it's a little bit hard.
Chua Brothers' Penang Duck Egg Char Kuay Teow (12.50 RM)
A bit salty - maybe the duck egg? The hum was juicy & so were the prawns though.
Kim Lian Kee's Signature Hokkien Mee (13.90 RM)
The more I ate, the tastier it was! Comes with a free packet of tissue paper, I guess to wipe all that oil off your lips LOL
