Tastemakers Guide to Jurong's Best Hawkers
Located near the International Business Park in Boon Lay, Kimly Seafood serves up zi char dishes that are bang on flavour, and worth travelling for even if you don't work around the area — they made it onto Burpple's Hot 100 list last year! Bring along dining companions who like their food super flavourful. There are plenty of dishes to try, one of which is their signature Crispy Yam Salted Egg Crab (seasonal price). There's no need to order mantou for this one. The dry-style dish sees salted egg battered crabs paired with highly addictive deep-fried yam sticks, also coated in salted egg sauce. Tastemaker Michelle Kayla Tey also recommends the Garlic Nan Ru Pork ($13), a Hakka specialty of pork belly marinated in red fermented beancurd, deep-fried till crisp golden. It's so garlicky and moreish, you'll find it hard to stop munching! If you're in a group of four or so, order the Tai O White Bee Hoon ($20 for large), a delicate noodle dish that will offer a good contrast to the other flavour-heavy plates.

This small coffeeshop is where Tastemaker Kenneth Lee believes you can find the best prata in Singapore, and the consistent crowds echo his sentiment — there are only about 10 tables so be prepared to wait for a seat. Thick and doughy but also crispy and not oily, the version here will appeal to those who like their pratas denser and fluffier, not so much paper-thin. Go for the Plain Prata ($1) or Egg Prata ($1.70), so you can enjoy the flavourful curry that comes on the side. Interestingly, the prata also comes with a side of sambal. Use this for dipping, or to customise the spiciness of the curry. You may also wish to add on a side of super tender and flavourful Mutton Curry ($4.50). For dessert, consider the Peanut Butter ($2) or the Milky Gem ($2) — plain prata with an oozy filling of condensed milk and M&M's candies. Did anybody say sugar rush?

Come hungry for a bowl of tasty and hearty Lor Mee ($3.50) that Tastemaker Amanda Liu loves. It's hard to miss this third-floor stall in Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre — you need only look for the queue. While some lor mee gravies tend to be too starchy, the sauce here is thick without being overly gloopy, and is so full of flavour! The dish comes with heaps of toppings including the much raved about deep-fried ngoh hiang meat balls, along with a spoonful of vinegar, garlic and chilli padi — bring your appetite, but probably not a new love interest! Mix well before slurping up all that slippery goodness. The stall closes at 3pm, so visit for breakfast or lunch. Pro tip: Tastemaker Acamas Teo spotted another outlet of Feng Zhen Lor Mee at the S11 Foodcourt opposite Yew Tee MRT Station. This stall opens only until noon, or till stocks last.
