2️⃣Mala shroom baked rice [$10.90] .
Really sad to hear that @photosynthesis.cafe would be ceasing operations on 23rd January and that’s just ~1 week away 😢. As the name suggests, the dishes here are all plant-derived, vegetarian and meat-free! 🌱Go green and save the animals, yay or nay? 💚 Was recently introduced to this cafe by one of my vegetarian friends and I was certainly impressed at both dishes that we’ve tried. The salted egg pasta is served with deep fried ‘pork’, ‘prawns’ and a copious amount of shimeiji mushrooms, spiced up with fresh cut chilli padi and curry leaves for an added fragrance. The characteristic salty notes is definitely prominent here, subtle and lingering, albeit with a creamy, thick mouthfeel that might get a tad overwhelming for the faint-hearted after some time. As a heavy-hearted consumer, I truly enjoyed this dish and would gladly polish off an entire portion on my own! 😋 On the other hand, the Mala shroom baked rice didn’t disappoint as well, coming with an aromatic fragrance of Mala spice that was flavourful and prominent to both the sense (and scent). Comprising of brown rice stir fried with crunchy corns and chewy shimeiji mushrooms, the top layer of cheese is baked to an ideal golden brown perfection with crisp, crusty edges and a soft, gooey centre. Once again, not for the faint hearted but as for me, it was a blissful experience with the melted baked cheese adding a tangy piquant note to the flavorful and aromatic Mala fried rice .
.
PS: @photosynthesis.cafe, do consider bringing back the old version of salted egg ‘pork’ rice with sunny side up too!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Would really hope to be back one last time for this before the shop ceases operation and bids farewell next week! 👋🏻😭 .

Exclusively available at Icon village outlet, this new mystery flavour of melon softerve is also served with melon fruit wedges and drizzled with melon sauce as well! 🍈💚 Differing from the usual creamy, milky softserve base, this flavour pulled off as one that’s more sobert-like, slightly icy in texture and hence more refreshing as well! ✨ The characteristic fruity sweetness was present in mellow and subtle notes, without any unpleasant cloying factor. Also adore the fact that real fruit slices are present here as well, which contributed not only to the visuals but to a pleasant natural sweetness and juicy mouthfeel!👍🏻 .
[PS: This flavour is only available for a limited time, and perhaps only one in a melon years! 🤭 . Do give it a try before it’s gone!] .

A recent addition to the current existing flavours of burgers here, this Red Hot Mala burger is available only for a limited time! ✨ Launched in collaboration with @danielfooddiary, it was quite amusing how the staff even exclaimed that I was seating at the exact same spot as where he was at that time! 😅🤭 Sandwiched between 3 betroot red burger buns lies a generous portion of pork belly sautéed in spicy Sichuan peppercorn and Chilli oil, topped with the essential Mala ingredients of lotus root slices and luncheon meat, along with a spread of Mala mayonnaise. Given my fetish for eggs, I added on a sunny side up that came with a glorious flowy yolk! 🤩 By default, this Mala burger is also served with a side of fries and a ‘salad’ comprising of diced tomatoes, cucumbers and feta cheese. As one who highly adores spice (and Mala), I was pleasantly surprised at how the characteristic mala spice fragrance was really prominent and aromatic here, with a spiciness intensity that is well executed and not too overwhelming! The pork belly slices comes with layers of fats along with tender lean meat, one that I was personally not a fan of, though I did enjoy the peppery spice and fragrance from the infusion of Sichuan peppercorns. Along with a pleasant crunch from the lotus root and a crispy luncheon meat (my favourite element as always), I must admit this is a pretty impressive flavour (and a unique fusion) of burger that I wouldn’t mind having again! 💖 On the downside, the fries were rather mediocre and lacks seasoning, one that I could easily do without in the set .
.
[PS: This Mala burger would only be available for a limited time, most probably till CNY, accoridng to the staff] .

Seasonal menu available ONLY TILL 13 Jan, LAST 2 days to indulge in a Lobster & Steak feast! 🦂🥩 Ordered the full lobster set for the Mentaiko aglio olio which features two lobsters topped with a gratinated homemade cod roe mayo aka. Mentaiko on a bed of aglio olio pasta served along with with baby prawns, asparagus and chilli. As a fan of Mentaiko, I certainly do enjoy the creamy Mentaiko mayo that comes with a pleasant savoury umami flavour, which greatly complemented the fresh, seafood-sque lobsters that could be easily ripped off from their shells👍🏻! On the downside, the aglio olio was a tad too dry for my liking and would have been great if it was a Mentaiko cream based pasta as well! On the other hand, I personally prefer the risotto over to the aglio olio pasta, which is thick, creamy and flavourful, along with a pleasant earthy note from the chewy, juicy mushrooms embedded within. Ordered the half lobster set for this, which is also served with macaroni salad in Miso Wafu dressing, along with a steak of Lobster topped with baked, hand-whipped soufflé that was fluffy and cloud-like. Garnished with cheese, the soufflé was light, soft and puffy, resembling marshmallows in texture, though I personally felt it was somewhat redundant here. If only the Mentaiko-topped lobster was paired with the mushroom risotto, that would have been the perfect matchmake in heaven to my palate! 💖 😍 .

As part of the special menu that’s only available for a limited time, the Sloppy Waffles, as the name suggests, might appear ‘sloppy’ in terms of presentation but as the saying goes “Looks are deceiving” which totally holds true here!✨ Comprising of bacon, grilled chicken thigh (hidden underneath the scrambled eggs), cheese and baby spinach lying atop atop a thick and fluffy Belgian waffles that’s drizzled with homemade Thai peanut curry sauce, the latter felt like a combination of peanut butter and sriracha mayo which got me sold and hooked onto, a sauce that I wouldn’t mind spamming onto anything, be it toast, waffles, pancakes etc etc. The Belgian waffles come with a soft, fluffy and cake-like interior that would have been better if it’s slightly crisp at the edges but no complains though, since this was a savoury waffle instead of a sweet one (which I m usually more particular about, especially when paired with ice cream). The scrambled eggs were done to an ideal fluffy, sufficiently moist texture and topped with a generous portion of melted, creamy and gooey cheese - sinful yet comforting pleasures! 😋 Along with tender grilled chicken thigh and a crisp, smoky bacon, I certainly do hope this dish would stay permanent in the menu as it was really, really worth the calories and indulgence. Although the price might appear slightly steep, portion is generous indeed and would certainly fill you up on an empty stomach! 👍🏻 .

A monthly special dessert exclusively available at the @orchardcentral ‘s outlet, this dessert set comprises of two baked sweet potato (purple & yellow), matcha softserve, shiratama & azuki, along with a pot of hot Houjicha tea. As a huge fan of sweet potato, I was sold as I had my first bite of these freshly baked, luscious sweet treat that satisfied my sweet tooth greatly! 😋 Coupled with a soft, thick and creamy mouthfeel, these baked sweet potatoes possessed a characteristic, pleasant natural sweetness, along with a subtle and fragrant earthy, roasted note in the purple one. The matcha softserve is smooth, creamy with a bittersweet undertone, with a distinct albeit subtle flavour that leans towards the milky, sweeter side - definitely not for the hardcore matchaholics! ⚠️ Shiratama comes with a chewy mouthfeel that was a tad too dry and tough for my liking, along with sweet azuki beans in a shallow pool of kuromitsu (black sugar honey). Don’t judge but I actually enjoyed drizzling the remaining kuromitsu sauce onto the sweet potatoes! 🤭 The hot Houji tea serves as a refreshing palate cleanser cum ending to the overall sweet dessert platter, with a lingering roasted, earthy undertone. On a side note, thanks a lot to Maccha house for the great service in offering one of this dessert platter on the house due to a miscommunication on my previous trip (where I got two yellow baked sweet potato instead of 1 purple & yellow)! 🙆🏻‍♀️🙆🏻‍♀️ .

Among the 2 new flavours, I personally prefer Biscotti which had a flavour resembling that of a caramelised cookie, coupled with a characteristic nutty undertone that was also aromatic, striking a complementary balance to the subtle, luscious caramelised sweetness. The twist with seasalt also added a pleasant tinge of saltiness and hence you get a 3-in-1 mix of sweet, nutty and a slightly salty flavour profile. On the other hand, the lychee rose was milky, creamy which tasted really similar to a local flavour we are all familiar with- Bandung. Not that it’s bad but it just tasted artificial imo, with the fruity notes of lychee barely distinctive here but rather a milky floral flavour that embodies the entire softserve. Glad to have the seasalt present here which helps to provide a slight alleviation to the cloying, artificial sweetness. But still, I would highly recommend just going for the Biscotti unless you are a huge fan of Bandung. On a side note, I just realized that sampling are allowed after witnessing 2 customers requesting for it while I was indulging in the softserves! 😮 Yay to wiser decisions prior to purchase in the future! 👍🏻🙆🏻‍♀️ .

[PS: Biscotti and Lychee rose would be available till 15th Jan, before the next series of rotational flavours] .

My first experience at Changi airport T2’s outlet a few months for the original Pearl milk tea softserve left a positive impression that I wouldn’t mind heading back for repeated visits. Back then, the milk tea softserve was smooth, creamy and thick, with a lingering aromatic tea flavour that was prominently distinct amidst the subtle milky undertone. Though the portion might seem small, it was actually sufficient (or maybe even abundant) for 1 given it’s thick, creamy texture that might get a tad overwhelming after awhile. The lingering fragrance of the luscious tea flavour left me impressed as tbh I personally feel it’s one of the best milk tea softserve I’ve had in Singapore! ✨I love how the tea flavour is lingering, fragrant without being too milky. However, on my recent trip to Suntec city’s outlet, a spoonful of the Tie Guan Yin softserve was all it takes to disregard my positive thoughts and memories of the milk tea softserve. Not too sure if it’s the difference in consistency among the 2 outlets but the texture here was slightly icy, lacking the creamy factor and most importantly, the tea flavour was much milder than before. Both the flavour and texture were the major factors that warrants me from making anymore repeated visits for this softserve .

Managed to be one of the lucky ones to grab the remaining last few slices left on their last day of operations for 2018!✌🏻Comprising of a wedge of fresh, juicy and sweet watermelon sandwiched within two thick layers of rose-scented light pastry cream along with light and fluffy dacquoise-alike layers, the cake is also topped with fresh strawberries and grapes. Helming from an ex-pastry chef of the renowned Aussie @blackstarpastry that’s also well-known for their Instagram-worthy watermelon cake, this cake certainly didn’t disappoint and satisfied my sweet tooth greatly! 🤓💖 Love how the Rose-infused 🌹 pastry cream perfumes up the cake with a subtle, mellow floral fragrance to the naturally sweet watermelon that might pose a challenge when slicing the cake upon consuming due to its juicy albeit rigid nature. The thin dacquoise layers were soft and fluffy with texture resembling that of meringue , possessing a slight chewy mouthfeel. Wouldn’t mind having another slice of this 🍓🍉🍰 when it make its comeback in February (hopefully I would still be in Singapore till then 🤭).
.
[PS: @sugarthieves.co would be closed till 6th Jan 2019, with a new series of seasonal flavours available then. Note that the shop has limited seating capacity too, which is more suitable for takeaways].

With 2 options of either Santa or Rudolph, these sundae waffle bowl creations comes with any 2 scoops of ice cream flavours of your choice that’s served in a chocolate coated waffle bowl, along with toasted marshmallows, Santa shortbread cookie and chocolate soil or Chocolate Antlers and graham cookie crumbs for each creation respectively. For the Santa, we chose the Signature 80% dark chocolate (which is always the safest and almost always the best option here) along with Salted peanut butter that is smooth, creamy and rich with a bold nutty flavour and characteristic hint of saltiness. As for the Rudolph waffle bowl, we paired it with Genmaicha and Hazelnut flavour, where the latter is a relatively new flavour that’s available for a limited time. Also one of my new-found non-chocolate favourite flavour here! 💖 Although the Genmaicha flavour came with a pleasant lingering roasted fragrance which I adore, the dried tea leaves embedded within was a hindrance to an ultimate blissful experience, contributing to an unpleasant coarse texture. Fortunately the hazelnut flavour compensated for that slight disappointment, coming with a contrasting texture thats was smooth and creamy texture coupled with a distinct nutty flavour and fragrance that’s lingering and aromatic. Usually not a fan of waffle cones in my ice cream but I do adore the chocolate coated edges here that added a luscious chocolatey flavour profile as well a pleasant crisp mouthfeel. Fans of marshmallows would be glad to find that the ones here are torched slightly with a hint of burnt, caramelised exterior coupled with an interior that’s soft, gooey and sticky - beware of your bare hands when consuming them! ⚠️ .

[PS: These sundae waffle bowl creations would most probably only be available till end of 2018, which is today technically!] :
