Available only for a limited time as a seasonal special, this cookie chocolate ring bingsu comprises of Oreo O’s cereal, a popular korean breakfast cereal or snack, along with marshmallows, whipped cream dusted with cocoa powder, vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce and oreo cookie. Apart from the condensed milk that’s served at the side by default for you to drizzle onto the bingsu, this flavour also comes with a mini pot of fresh milk and marshmallows (swipe to view) which actually kinds of complement the Oreo O’s cereal - imagine the typical breakfast of milk & cereal? 🤔 Underneath the pile of crunchy Oreo O’s, there’s also a hidden (and pleasant) surprise element of cheesecake cubes - my favourite topping in the bingsu here. Creamy and luscious, I am secretly wishing more of these cheesecake cubes can be placed within the smooth, fluffy and snowflake-alike milk shaved ice. Overall, this is quite an interesting flavour which was also aesthetically appealing, but imo it was actually rather mediocre in terms of flavour, with the Oreo O’s only contributing to a pleasant crunch factor but not much for the flavour. Nevertheless, it’s still decent and worth a try if you are a fan of chocolate milk🍫🥛 .
.
[PS: Do exercise precaution and snap your shots fast (if you need to) as the vanilla ice cream atop the fluffy marshmallows was a precarious threat that might topple anytime - which did so for mine within less than a minute. Thankfully I had salvaged it with the help of my dining partner and managed to secure a shot 📸] .

It was indeed a challenge finding this donut shop that’s situated in one of the alleys in Itaewon street, given the inaccurate location tag on Kakaomap (google maps isn’t accurate in Korea btw). Fortunately, the staff understood English when I made a call to enquire and was really kind enough to physically lead us the way to the cafe. Apart from matcha, I also have a soft spot for Earl Grey hence I settled for the London fog (earl grey) and also couldn’t resist getting my hands on the aesthetically appealing cream earl grey milk tea served in a mini carton(swipe to view). On the other hand, my dining partner chose the strawberries & cream donut which came in a gorgeous bright pink shade and generously filled with strawberry flavoured cream that’s smooth, light and fortunately not cloying. Of course, as one who still prefer tea flavours over fruit flavoured dessert, I personally prefer the London fog more, coming with a lingering floral aroma from the earl grey flavoured cream filling stuffed within. Topped with a slightly crisp sugared glazing and coated with sugar crystals, both donuts were enjoyable in terms of texture, with a soft, fluffy and pillowy mouthfeel. Personally I would recommend enjoying these sweet treats with your bare hands instead as it was a little challenging to slice these cream filled donuts apart with the disposable plastic cutleries provided. Just be prepared and have some napkins with you in case 🤭. On the other hand, the cream earl grey milk tea leaned towards the milky side, while still possessing a characteristic lingering aroma with subtle floral hues. Not the best earl grey milk tea to me but I do appreciate how it’s not saccharine while still carrying a distinct albeit subtle flavour. // Thumbs up for the friendly service here that makes our trip worthwhile (despite walking up and down a long flight of stairs a few times due to the inaccurate location on the map)👍🏻👍🏻. Note that seats are pretty limited here as it’s mainly a takeaway concept.

This has been crossed off in my list of to-try after knowing that the outlet at Hongdae, Seoul has ceased operations. Fortunately, during my trip to Jeonju, I was pleasantly greeted by it, which of course I headed straight in to try without further ado. With 2 flavours of softserve available - original and green tea, the softserve here are also served with an ice ball, injeolmi and green tea respectively. The ice balls kind of resembled an ice cream mochi imo, though not as chewy in its exterior. Softserve here are made from brown rice and mixed grains, which comes with a lingering roasted aroma. Personally I would prefer the Green tea flavour of softserve, not because of my fondness towards Matcha but rather the characters roasted flavour profile of the brown rice & grains here was more prominent, which actually overshadowed the earthy, bitter undertone of green tea. On the other hand, the sobok original flavour comes with a much more subtle roasted flavour that was lighter to the palate. Nevertheless, the addition of honey did help to contribute to a luscious, pleasant tinge of sweetness. Personally I would prefer the ice ball here, which comes coated with injeolmi (bean flour) powder that contributed to a pleasant roasted flavour and aroma and a core of sobok ice cream. Somehow the softserve here reminds me of @brotherbirdflagship too, which was where I patronize frequently back in Singapore for the monthly softserve flavours. Note that the softserve here melts rather fast though, hence it is strongly advised to snap your pictures fast (if you need) and tuck in asap! 💥 .

Colour was pretty deceiving here though as the truffle flavour was vaguely distinctand mild (not sure if it’s my tastebuds that was affected by a cold I am currently down with) and lacks the lingering aroma I was looking forward to. Mostly an umami flavour with seaweed mixed in within the congee, that also comes with a thick, risotto-alike creamy texture that I adore. The set also comes with complimentary condiments (feel free to request for a top up FOC) : kimchi, shredded beef slices in soy sauce, chilli paste and chilled pink radish soup. Not supposed to be eating beef (due to religious reasons) but I accidentally ate it without knowing, which was actually pretty good, tender and flavourful ; in fact my favourite complement here for the porridge! 🤭🤫 .
.
2️⃣Shrimp porridge 새우죽 [9,000KRW ~> $10.80]
Paling much in comparison to the truffle flavour, the only great takeaway to this flavour was the generous amount of shrimps within. Porridge (or rather congee) leaned towards a lighter flavour profile - sad to admit it was actually bland for me that I had to request for another serving of that chilli paste (kinda like a korean version of sambal chilli) to add some flavour to the porridge. Nevertheless, this would be a good choice to go for on a rainy day or if you are sick and in need of a clean, light diet.

Being one who loathes red beans and nuts, I am glad that this takeaway kiosk in Hongdae offers a variety of unique and interesting flavours (swipe to view the menu), as well as savoury flavours for those without a sweet tooth! As a fan of Injeolmi, I headed for one of the bestsellers, injeolmi honey while my dining partner chose the Oreo honey. Prepared freshly upon order, the hotteok is best eaten hot and fresh from the grill, with a chewy mochi-like texture. The injeolmi honey pancake is coated generously with bean flour powder, possessing a pleasant roasted flavour and lingering aroma which I adore, along with a honey-filled interior that was sweet yet not saccharine or cloying 😋. On the other hand, the oreo honey is coated with crushed Oreo crumbs, along with a chewy interior filled with honey. If you are a fan of oreo or chocolatey desserts, this would probably be your kind of pancake. As for me, I personally prefer Injeolmi, being a huge fan of earthy, roasted flavours (apart from black sesame) 😬 . Note that this is only a takeaway kiosk hence no seats are available but definitely a convenient snack if you are busy shopping or exploring the bustling streets of Hongdae! 👍🏻

Instead of the usual English muffin, the Benedict here comes with two huge juicy portobello that’s also stuffed with ricotta cheese, kale and sautéed mushroom within, topped with poached eggs and brown butter hollandaise. Served with side salad, the poached eggs here were on point indeed, with an ideal flowy factor that eluded a vibrant pool of yolk. The only downside was that the characteristic tangy note of vinegar was rather intense (a tad overwhelming for me) here, but still it was one of the main factors in contributing to the ideal viscosity of the yolks. Apart from the soft and flowy poached eggs, the main highlight here has got to be the juicy portobello which is coated slightly with panko crumbs, with an interior of creamy albeit light ricotta cheese, kale and sautéed mushroom that came as a pleasant surprise, providing another dimension of flavour to the characteristic earthy note of portobello. The creamy brown butter hollandaise provided a tangy and flavourful factor to the vinegar-possessed poached eggs, along with a teeny whiff of buttery fragrance. Ending off with salad dressed in balsamic vinegar, this brunch menu is the only item I’ve tried here which left me impressed and warrants a return visit if I happen to be in the vicinity! 👍🏻 .

Be sure to consume it immediately upon arrival, otherwise the cheese might get hardened up and become tough (which was what happened to our order while we were waiting for the okonomoyaki to arrive). Actually this was meant to be consumed by mixing the cheese and fried rice together but we had the two elements in silo, which tasted great as well! 👍🏻 The kimchi fried rice was flavourful, tangy with a characteristic spice factor, perhaps the next best alternative to the local “Wok Hei” which I am missing (and craving for) badly 😅. The addition of cheese was a plus point for me, contributing to a pleasant piquant flavour and perhaps serving as a counter balance to the spiciness (for those with a low threshold for spice 🔥). Would definitely give this dish a 2nd try- in fact, it’s my favourite kimchi fried rice Seoul far in my trip here ✨.

2️⃣Okonomoyaki [14000 KRW ~> $16.80]
Comprising of octopus, squid, cabbage in its pan-fried interior, the okonomoyaki is topped with streaks of smoky bacon along with a pile of bonito flakes that added a pleasant savoury umami note. Prepared freshly upon order, the waiting time for this is pretty long; if you are here with a growling stomach, you might want to consider ordering other dishes first while waiting for it. Highly recommended to share as the starchy interior might get a tad overwhelming after some time, and the portion is huge as well .

✨Milk ice cream served with two long sticks of churros, this was retailing at one of the food kiosks at Gwangju World Cup stadium during SBS inkigayo concert. Pricing may be a tad steep but I did enjoy it and it was worth the queue and wait imo! The churros are coated with cinnamon sugar which doesn’t a prominent cinnamon spice flavour, thankfully for me since I am one who despise cinnamon. Prepared freshly upon order, the churros are deep fried to an ideal crisp perfection on its exterior, with a soft, fluffy interior which wasn’t too oily or greasy as well! 👍🏻 The milk ice cream was a great companion to the hot churros, not too cloying or milky, a perfect hot-and-cold combination in a cup! 💕
2️⃣Spicy seasoned chicken skewer [3500krw ~> $4.20]
Again from a random stall along the streets in Gwangju, this seasoned chicken skewer is marinated in a spicy Yangnyeom sauce with alternating layers of crunchy leeks. The chicken are chargrilled to a slightly crisp exterior on its skin, along with tender and succulent meat. The spicy Yangnyeom sauce would be good for those who adore spice, coming with a prominent albeit not overwhelming spice factor that was spot on (at least so for me), the main highlight here that makes me crave for another stick of this skewer! 🔥 .

As requested by one of my followers, I shall post a review of this “hidden gem” relatively near to Korea University, and also a stone’s throw away from the guesthouse I am currently residing in. Having been here twice, I must admit that the Jajjangmyeon (typically the black bean paste sauce) was one of the best I’ve had so far in Seoul as it was flavourful without being too overwhelming, with a good balance of sweet and savoury. Despite my long photo-taking season (as usual🤭), the noodles did not turn soggy at all and still retained an al dente texture to the bite 😋. The jjamppong came with the typical assorted seafood ingredients comprising of mussels, squid (why no prawns though 😭), along with shredded carrots and sliced onions for that added crunch factor. The stew is spicy, one that’s mellow and not intense or overwhelming, so great for those with a low threshold for spice! 👍🏻 Tbh, it was no kick for me and I would have love if there was a greater fiery factor here 🤭. Personally, I prefer the fried rice over the Jjamppong which is topped with an omelette (embedded with diced cucumbers and carrot) and served with Jajjang sauce (aka. black bean paste sauce) that’s the MAIN HIGHLIGHT here 🤩. Stir fried with onion slices, it was surprisingly a good companion to the fried rice (would be even better if there’s Wok Hei in it, which is unfortunately lacking here😢) but nevertheless, I still enjoyed it and would definitely make a return trip for this Jajjangmyeon (or jajjang fried rice)! 💕 On a side note, there’s also complimentary kimchi, pickles and sliced onions served here that’s refillable as well upon request (love how korean cuisines almost and always comes with free side dishes 😍)! Service was also welcoming and pleasant, which is also a bonus point here and of course, more reason for me to visit this eatery again .

Among the 2 tarts featured here, I personally prefer the Banana pudding which lives up to expectations as being listed under one of the ‘Best’ options. Not exactly a pudding here but it comprises of coffee cream cheese encased within a crumbly tart shell and topped with fresh, ripe banana slices. Cream cheese wasn’t too overwhelming and felt more like fresh cream instead, smooth and light, coupled with a lingering aroma of caffeine infused within. Tart shell was also crumbly with a subtle lingering buttery fragrance. On the other hand, the dome chocolate would appeal to the chocoholics with its thick chocolate cream filling that’s decadent albeit sinful, along with a base of chocolate sponge that was a tad too dry for my liking. The chocolate flavoured tart was bittersweet though, providing a good counterbalance to the otherwise saccharine chocolate cream and glaze elements within. Tart shell was also firm albeit crumbly, with a distinct bittersweet cocoa flavour here. Actually came here for the drinks served on an instagrammable flamingo float after seeing @fatgirlsfoodguide ‘s post, but a pity they didn’t have that anymore 😢. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the banana pudding tart and the minimalistic, cozy ambience was a good place to chill in too! ~ .

2 pieces of Belgian liege waffles, along with your choice of double scoop gelato and assorted fruits. One of the better waffles I’ve had in Seoul, with a crisp and caramelised golden brown exterior coupled with soft, fluffy interior that withheld an aromatic and lingering buttery fragrance 👍🏻! Usually not a fan of plain waffles but this was delectably enjoyable in silo without the need for any accompanying condiments. As for the gelato flavours, I opted for Matcha & Yogurt and both scoops were smooth, creamy with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. The matcha gelato came with a distinct earthy note but was subtle and leaned towards the milky flavour profile, hence not for the hardcore matchaholics. On the other hand, the yogurt gelato came with a refreshing tangy note that complements the assorted fruits topping. On a side note, the cozy ambience and vibes here, coupled with free WiFi and charging points makes it a conducive environment for studying and catching up on some work here, which was what I’ve observed among most customers here .

Apart from the usual rice cake and almond flakes, this injeolmi bingsu here has upped its game with the addition of crushed macaron pieces, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and a whole macaron. Later did I know (and learnt from the natives here) that ‘Injeolmi’ actually stands for ‘rice cake’ and not the roasted soybean powder which we are all familiar with. And so... it’s the bean powder which I have been liking all along 🤭. With its striking resemblance to Kinako (or are they the same?🤔), the bean powder comes with a pleasant, roasted flavour and lingering aroma that never fails to make a good complement to the soft, chewy rice cake (Injeolmi). And not forgetting the snowflake-alike, finely shaved ice that was smooth with an instant melt-in-the mouth texture. Feels like having clouds in the mouth which may also be the reason why it sends one on cloud nine after consuming? 😌😉 On the downside, I didn’t really fancy the macaron pieces which were too chewy and a tad tough for my liking. Would prefer it to be less chewy, more crisp and perhaps less dense in texture. The accompanying vanilla ice cream is smooth, creamy with a pleasant milky flavour and fragrance, coupled with an optional shot of condensed milk for an added milky sweetness, which I would personally prefer to omit it, if not for my mandatory pouring shot! 😅 .
