With your choice of dry or soup, each Yong Tau Foo comes with 6 pieces of ingredients, on a bed of yellow noodles. I opted for the dry version and mine came with a small pot of corn soup, as well as condiments such as sweet sauce, chilli sauce and sambal chilli paste. Not a fan of yellow noodles (in fact I loathe it) but with the addition of the chilli sauce, my initial fear and dread was overcome with the tangy, flavourful note of the sauce arriving to the rescue 😅. The sambal chilli was also fragrant and aromatic, with a tinge of spice that could have been more intense. Nevertheless, it served as a great accompaniment to the deep fried components, which were all done to an ideal crisp exterior ✨. Note that this place is vegetarian and hence all the components present are meatless, though looks might be deceiving 🤭. Ranging from eggplant, fried tofu, fried wanton, which is your favorite ingredient? 😉 .

Newly launched to the series of beverage menu, this Genmaicha latte is made using organic premium genmaicha powder sourced from @matchayasg. Vegan friendly, plant-based milk is used instead, which had a distinctive soya flavour that resembled that of soymilk. Amidst the subtle earthy hues of matcha lies a roasted, nutty undertone and aroma, providing another dimensional flavour to the smooth, refreshing beverage. As the name suggests, the roasted flavour resembled that of a popcorn, contributing to a pleasant lingering aroma. Glad that my favourite matcha place (in Singapore) has collaborated with a number of cafes now, which makes no excuse for me to forgo cafe hopping! 😛 .

The heap of roasted cauliflower was a major contributor that lowered the sinful indulgence, comprising of 70% of the entire dish. Mac & cheese pulled off with a tinge of spice that was tangy, lacking the characteristic creamy, cheesy factor that I would have adore. On the bright side, this might be useful in curbing the overwhelming gelat aftermath sensation. The roasted cauliflower came with slightly chargrilled floret, crunchy with a tough and rigid stalk that was a challenge breaking them apart with the knife provided. The unagi slices were well marinated but of course, don’t expect a quality like Man Man or so, given the pricing. Be careful of the little bones hidden within the soft flesh! Good news is that this brunch item is available all day - hence you can enjoy it anytime, any day 😌. .

Freshly baked matcha pancakes served with azuki, shiratama, fresh cream and a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream. A waiting time of 15-20 minutes is required as the pancakes are all freshly made upon order. However, I had waited for ~40 min as there seemed to be some miscommunication with the service. Repeated my orders thrice to 3 different staff and even customers who had placed their orders after us got their food served first. That aside, I still adore the texture of the pancakes that’s soft, fluffy and light! A pity the matcha flavour was subtle and barely detectable though! Usually not a fan of cream but the fresh cream here had a lingering buttery fragrance and went as a great complement to the pancakes, helping to curb dryness as well. Along with chewy shiratama and sweet azuki, the pancakes are drizzled with kuromitsu sauce that added a pleasant tinge of sweetness. I also added on an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream for just $1 as the meagre one served by default had melted way too fast and was already ‘sweating’ when it was served to us. Glad to say that the vanilla ice cream was fragrant, though texture wasn’t that great and slightly coarse, the vanilla essence wasn’t too overwhelmingly milky nor sweet and carried off an aromatic lingering fragrance .
If you are coming in large groups, you may also opt for the double portion (8 pieces) at $16.20 - just a dollar more for each slice! ✨ Foresee a queue arriving soon here but thank goodness I have made my way before the hype kicks in! Overall, the pancakes were enjoyable, though there is still much room of improvement to the lacklustre service >< . .

Managed to rush down for their anniversary 1-for-1 softserve(upsize only) promo and gave yuzu the last shot before it’s replaced with another mystery flavour! ✨ As expected, matcha flavour doesn’t disappoint with its smooth, creamy texture coupled with an earthy, umami flavour and a pleasant lingering bitter undertone. The yuzu flavour is tangy, refreshing with a citrusy flavour, mildly sweetened with yuzu citrus jam. If case you aren’t aware, @matchayasg ‘s closed today at both outlets for staff retreat! Looking forward to the new concept that I heard will be launched soon💚 .

Tomato fried rice with chicken chunks encased within an omelette, topped with melted cheese on a bed of cream sauce. Fans of carbonara would be glad to find tender bacon slices and chewy, juicy mushrooms within the creamy sauce, the typical yet essential components. The omelette is soft, fluffy, firmer in texture as compared to the lava style though. Do not expect flowy eggs (as seen in the previous post) as this omelette is baked and cooked to its fullest! 🤭 . Didn’t really fancy the tomato fried rice (also due to the fact that I personally loathe tomato) as I found its sweetness a tad overwhelming to the other savoury elements and IMO, not a good accompaniment to the cream sauce.
Personal advice: Just get the lava eggs will do! 🙃🙂 .

Missed out on the Shirogoma flavour at the previous Takashimaya fair? Fret not! It’s back once again, though only at the Cathay outlet, in replacement of black sesame for now! Only available for a limited time, do seize the opportunity to try it before it’s gone again! I had mine with houjicha softserve and dashings of kinako powder. On the downside, the flavour of Shirogoma here seemed to much milder as compared to my previous tries (both at Takashimaya and Icon Village), with a less distinct roasted, nutty flavour that was less lingering as well. Thankfully the kinako powder managed to compensate for this disappointment (though only slightly) with its characteristic roasted hues. Not sure if it is just me or the houjicha flavour seem to be less intense and sweeter as before? 🤔 .

Breakfast For Dinner anyone? ✋🏻 Unfortunately, all good things comes to an end and with that, @ruleofthreecafe had ceased operations as of 14 June! 😢👋🏻 . Glad that I managed to head down before they are closed for good! Featured here is a plate of heart-shaped waffles filled with spam, served with potato cheese croquettes and mesclun salad with roasted sesame dressing. The waffles leaned towards the dense, cake-y side, without the crisp factor that I would have adore. Nevertheless, being a huge fan of luncheon meat, I could just easily spam them all by myself! Each piece waffle is chocked full of spam cubes and packed full of spices, resulting in a strong peppery flavour that lent a smoky, savoury note to the waffles. The peppery flavour might be a tad overwhelming for those with a low threshold for spice, but it was alright for me! 👌🏻 The potato cheese croquettes resembled more of hash brown instead, with a crisp exterior that serves an addictive sidekick to the meal! 💛 Also love the roasted sesame dressing that came with the salad, with its lingering roasted, nutty flavour being a pleasant enhancement to the crunchy raw greens .

@hvala_sg has finally expanded with a 2nd outlet situated in @chijmes_sg! 💚 Differing from their first takeaway kiosk at 313 somerset, the outlet here resembled a Japanese teahouse cum cafe, with a rustic, chic interior featuring ceramic teapots, teacups and wooden furnitures that instantly made me felt as though I was in Japan! ✨ What’s more, there’s also free flow of self-service Oolong tea (swipe to view) and plain water served in ceramic teacup. Unlike the 313 outlet, this cafe here serves freshly churned gelato instead of softserve, which came with a soft, smooth and creamy texture, one that is luscious and melts in the mouth. The earthy, umami notes of Yuki matcha was a distinct, lingering one to the palate, perfect for the hardcore matacholics. Though of course, I wouldn’t mind a higher intensity and a more acute bitter undertone. On the other hand, the matcha houjicha latte ice blend (requested for less sweet) bears a robust lingering roasted flavour and aroma amidst the earthy hues of matcha, which was a pleasant sensation to the palate. A thick and frappe-like texture that allows prolonged enjoyment as well! 💖 Unfortunately the caramelised shiratama kinako that I had been yearning for (and in fact, came all the way to try it) was unavailable when I placed my order but yet was told by one of the staff that there was a last bowl left when we were almost done and full with our current orders😢. Hopefully it would be available on my next visit, along with other flavours of gelato! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 .

Only available for a limited period, this satay chicken burger bento is also served with a side of sweet potato tater tots and mesclun salad with honey miso dressing. A thick slab of boneless chicken fillet topped with satay rempah, wakame, sliced cheddar and a sunny side up sandwiched between two soft and fluffy sesame brioche. The chicken was tender, meaty and slightly succulent, with the rempah contributing to a flavourful, fragrant profile, coupled with a tinge of aromatic spice. Wished that the cheese was melted, instead of a thick hardened slice. Nevertheless, the other components were still a satisfaction to the palate, with the wakame providing a pleasant crunch and the sunny side up possessing a vibrant orangey yolk too 😍. Though a pity it didn’t turn out to be flowy as expected 😢. In addition, I am glad (and relieved) that the sweet potato tater tots this time round aren’t charred unlike my previous visit, with a crisp exterior and a pleasantly sweet interior of sweet potato mash. The mesclun salad provided a refreshing crunch and ending to the meal, coupled with a side of sweet honey miso dressing that’s certainly a great condiment that I even paired it with the tater tots and burger buns as well🙈. Hopefully this burger would remain in the permanent menu 🙏🏻 .

The greatest highlight of this meal comes with an explosive lava egg (swipe to view the video) as the omelette was sliced apart! ✨The lava omelette was soft and fluffy with a slightly creamy, moist texture that I simply adore 💖. The accompanying mentaiko sauce was creamy with a pleasant umami flavor, a great enhancement to the butter rice. Served with tomato fried rice by default, I had opted for a swap to butter rice due to personal preference. The deep fried shrimps came with a crisp panko-crusted exterior, with an interior of fresh, plump and juicy shrimps. Though it would have been great if they were served separately instead, as some had lost its crispness upon contact with the Mentaiko cream sauce. Prior to my first dining experience at @omusg ‘s singapore outlet, the ones I had in Bangkok seemed to fare much better, with a more explosive lava omelette, more pocket-friendly pricing and a more attentive, friendly service .
