Perhaps the only vegetarian option here but the overall combination of the different meatless elements was one that greatly satisfied my palate. The haloumi cheese is essentially a grilled cheese "patty" that had a slightly crisp exterior encasing a thick, gooey interior that was so cheesy and flavourful! πŸ’– The mushrooms were well sautΓ©ed, with a pleasant earthy note whereas the pickled capsicums added a pleasant crunch factor that was refreshing as well! Along with emmental cheese that further boosted the cheesy factor and tangy smoked mayo spread, the bagels were thick, doughy with a fluffy interior. My virgin try on sandwich bagels and I foresee myself making return trips here for more! πŸ˜‹ what's more, the bagels here are all freshly baked with a variety of flavours to choose from e.g. Sesame, garlic, cheddar, rye, cinnamon raisin etc. Or just simply go for the plain one (which I did) and it was just as great! πŸ‘πŸ»

πŸ’šThere's also an option of having a matcha cream filled chiffon cake along with the softserve at the same price. However, I decided to go for purely the softserve to fully savour and appreciate the earthy umami flavour of uji matcha. Only for the hardcore matchaholics- this softserve bears an intense, robust earthy note that is coupled with a characteristic lingering bitter undertone. Texture is smooth albeit a little icy. Psst: There's also houjicha flavour too but a pity that's only available during weekends!

A dish that surpassed my expectation, with the flavourful prawn broth bearing a sweet unami note. Instead of the usual fried, dry style of Hokkien mee, this version is served in a soupy base, resulting in soft, wet vermicelli where every mouthful possessed the sweet, umami flavour and fragrance of the prawn broth. Due to my personal preference, I had requested for squid to be omitted in replacement for more prawns. Prawns could have been more plump and juicy IMO but the addition of generous amount of fried egg and tender, well marinated chicken chunks made the overall meal a satisfying and fulfilling one; every spoonful an enjoyment to my palate πŸ˜‹. Also served alongside is a side of homemade chilli sauce that sure packs a punch with its tangy note of spiciness - not for the faint hearted! πŸ”₯ My dining partner and I could not help but agree that this was indeed one of the better Hokkien mee out there. Though price is not that economical, the ambience, service and quality of food makes every $ worth it! πŸ’– .

An uncanny resemblance to the traditional breakfast that we locals always have at Ya Kun or Hawker centers, with a slight modification and upgrade of the usual kaya/butter toast to a savoury kimchi cheese toast. Despite the simplicity of this dish, I really enjoyed the thick, gooey melted mozzarella and cheddar that's springy with an oozy factor! πŸ’– Along with tender, juicy streaks of smoky bacon and the tanginess of fermented pickled vegetables (kimchi) that came with a tinge of lingering spiciness, the Danish loaf was toasted to perfection, with crisp edges and a soft, fluffy interior. The onsen eggs were perfectly moulded to two blobs of wobbly spheres that came with an ideal runny factor, nestled comfortably in a pool of soy sauce .

The gnocchi were chewy, thick and mochi-like, served in an aglio olio style with a pleasant savoury umami flavour and fragrance from the dried shrimps and minced pork. Wished there was more foie gras though, as I could hardly detect its presence. The morels resembled a black fungus, with a crunchy-chewy coral-like texture. Flavourful but a tad oily and dry for my liking, I guess my preference still holds for sauce based pasta! 😬

A moon cake inspired flavour? πŸ€” Perfect for the upcoming moon cake festival indeed! (If mooncakes aren't your kind of thing) Would have been great if the salted egg cremeux was more flowy but nevertheless, its distinctive flavour and pleasant lingering saltiness deserves a thumbs up! Adorned with a ring of white lotus seed mousse which was soft, light, its pleasant tinge of sweetness was an ideal companion and counterbalance to the saltiness of the salted egg cremeux. The coconut cake was spongy with a cotton-like softness, though not a significant contribution to the flavours. What I fancied most here is the base of salted sesame peanut praline that was crispy, with a subtle roasted flavour and mild lingering pleasant salty aftertaste πŸ˜‹ .

What I fancied most about this dish was the cheesy surprise within each arancini balls, apart from the tangy and flavourful chilli crab sauce. Each arancini was done to perfection, with a crisp and well breaded panko-crusted golden brown exterior, encasing a compact clump of rice grains and a thick, gooey melted cheesy core πŸ˜‹. The chilli crab sauce makes a great companion, with a tangy spiciness and a slightly thick texture which surprisingly did not impart any significant sogginess to the arancini. Not for the faint hearted as the spiciness was a significant contribution to the flavours and packs a punch! Along with crisp deep fried mantou (tasted like crackers to me), this might be an appetizer meant for sharing but I would gladly love to have it as a main instead! πŸ’–

Thanks @matchayasg for kindly accommodating to my request at no additional cost ☺️. Mystery flavour that's available for now would be kinako kuromitsu (till 17 sept). The ice blended beverage had a distinctive, roasted flavour and lingering aroma of kinako, with kuromitsu syrup blending in harmoniously with its pleasant tinge of natural sweetness. On the downside, I didn't quite enjoy the texture of the beverage that consisted of shards of ice crystals, resulting in a coarse and gritty mouthfeel to a supposedly thick, creamy beverage. Nevertheless, the softserve compensated for my slight disappointment, being as enjoyable and awesome as always! πŸ’š The kinako kuromitsu softserve leaned towards a sweeter profile, with a subtle roasted flavour whereas the matcha, as usual, bears a characteristic earthy note and a bitter undertone .

✨ A lava cake served in a reverse way, with vanilla ice cream as the base of a molten chocolate lava cake. The highlight here is no doubt, the chocolate lava cake (which is what the shop specializes in after all - chocolates🍫) that came with a thick and fudgy warm chocolate lava (swipe to the end to view its flowy texture) in the core of a chocolate lava cake that's sufficiently moist, soft with slightly crisp edges. The chocolate lava was luscious, chocolatey and packs a punch with its rich cocoa flavour that would appeal to the hardcore chocoholics. On the other hand, the vanilla ice-cream was milky, smooth and creamy which surprisingly still manage to retain a decent shape and rigidity despite contact with its warm albeit ideal companion .

Though it's stated yuzu, the cake itself is a green tea flavoured one, with yuzu peels and chocolate chips embedded within. Best eaten hot, with a soft and pillowy texture! The green tea flavour was pretty mild here, with the yuzu stealing the limelight with its citrusy, tangy flavour. Made with no oil and less sugar, this might be the reason for its slightly denser texture that could be a little dry for some. Great for the health and weight conscious and of course, for those without a fetish for desserts as this was pretty bland and healthy-tasting to me πŸ˜…. If green tea/yuzu aren't your kind of thing, there's also a cocoa flavoured steam cake with chestnuts embedded within .

The most affordable and pocket-friendly lobster you can ever find that doesn't scrimp on the ingredients as well! From now till 15th September, with every order of lobster mentaiko pasta, you get to enjoy a free serving of mentaiko fries with @snatchsingapore (limited to 15 servings per day)! The lobster was fresh, juicy with a springy delicate texture. Would personally prefer for the mentaiko sauce to be served separately to fully savour its seafood-sque flavour. The pasta was creamy, slightly al dente with a pleasant savoury umami flavour of mentaiko. I would personally recommend to share this dish as the heavy and creamy consistency might get a tad overwhelming after awhile.

Do be prepared to wait at least 15 min as the rice patties and har jeong gai cutlet are freshly prepared upon order. Served with a side of fries, the nasi lemak burger comes with leggit nasi - deep fried coconut rice patties that had an ideal well executed cracker-like crispness on its exterior, comprising of a seemingly rigid and compact interior of grainy rice; turned out to be fragile and crumbly though (as evident from the photo πŸ˜…). The fragrance of the coconut infused rice patties also shines through, with a lingering aroma. Sandwiched between these crisp and fragrant coconut rice patties comes a thick slab of har jeong gai cutlet topped with housemade sambal sauce, layered with cucumbers, sunny side up and lastly topped with garnishes of peanuts & ikan bilis. Indeed, a great resemblance to the nasi lemak with all the essential elements present, unlike the caramelised onions in Macdonald's version πŸ˜…. The har jeong gai cutlet by @ahtanwings had a crisp well-battered exterior that packs a punch with a subtle albeit distinct umami haebi fragrance, encasing tender and succulent chicken thigh meat within. Topped with home-made sambal sauce by @wonderfulnasilemak that added a flavourful touch of spiciness, the spiciness was distinct, lingering but a tad too mild for a sambal sauce with a mere presence that could have been provided more generously. Along with a fried egg (thank god it's not a fully cooked solidified yolk ), crunchy and juicy cucumber slices, the peanut and ikan bilis might seem like a calefare but it added a pleasant crunch factor as well as a flavourful waft of fragrance to the "burger". Fries were well seasoned but less crisp as compared to my previous visit. Loved the fact that the burger was served atop pandan leaves that retains a characteristic coconut fragrance. // Today's the last day of operations of @cornerkampung at Brunners coffeeshop! New outlet would be opening soon at Shaw Tower.
