With the descent of Halloween spooky burger comes yet another new seasonal creation - Trufflebello that’s available for a limited time only as well. As the name suggests, trufflebello = truffle + portobello. A perfect marriage in heaven with 2 key elements that’s highly compatible! 💖 Differing from the usual set meal that’s usually served with seaweed fries, this came with a side of sweet potato fries with maple dip instead! A pleasant substitute for me (since I wasn’t a fan of fries in the first place) with the sweet potato fries having an ideal crisp exterior and a soft, thick albeit dense interior that’s surprisingly addictive with the sweet and creamy maple dip. With a pleasant tinge of luscious sweetness, the maple dip resembled a mayonnaise infused with maple syrup. As for the beverage, the seasonal special would be spiced berry punch which is an acquired taste, with the distinct lingering flavour of cinnamon. The main highlight- trufflebello burg came in a pretty huge portion as compared to their usual burgers, sandwiched with a thick panko-crusted portobello that’s really juicy and flavorful with a distinct earthy note, adorned with a well-breaded and crisp, crumbled exterior. Laying atop a base of fresh crisp kale, the “patty” is topped off with sundried tomato, purple cabbage slaw that added a pleasant crunch factor and lastly, the spicy truffle aioli sauce that provided the wow factor with a subtle lingering truffle aroma amidst the tinge of spice. This has officially become my favorite burger flavour among all that I’ve tried here at @veganburg. What’s more, sweet potato fries are served for the set meal which greatly satisfied my sweet tooth 😉. Really hope this would be in the permanent menu in the future! XD // Once again, many thanks to @veganburg for the invite again to try out the seasonal burger 🙆🏻‍♀️😋.

Newly opened a few days ago, this store originating from Japan is well known for their cheese cookies that resembles the highly raved 白色恋人. Also available in store are the milk cheesecake and strawberry milk Swiss roll, apart from the softserve which is what most people are queuing for now 😅. I opted for the twist to enjoy the best of both worlds. The softserve is smooth and creamy, with a slight milky flavour and a subtle lingering saltiness from the cheese flavour. Personally preferred the latter as the milk softserve (made from Jersey cow milk with Hokkaido mascarpone cheese) was rather mild in flavour and lacked the characteristic dairy aroma of a Hokkaido milk. The cheese softserve was made with a mixture of cream cheese and Gouda cheese which came off as a good balance of sweet-salty, with a mild lingering pleasant aftertaste that provided a good dimension to cut through the other sweeter elements. The milk cheesecake resembled that of Letao’s double fromage, made with cream cheese from France & Hokkaido, blended with fresh cream, mousse and wrapped in a thin paper-like crepe. It had a light, creamy melt-in-the mouth texture that was luscious and enjoyable without being too overwhelming on the palate. On the other hand, the salt & Camembert biscuit was what I enjoyed most here, and apparently this is what they have always been known for. The cookie was crisp, with a thin layer of camembert cheese cream sandwiched within, spiced up with the addition of salt that added a pleasant lingering salty aftertaste. No regrets having this all by myself, though a sinful indulgence. Would certainly be back for more and to try the other flavours of cheese cookies! 🧀🍪

Intrigued by the ‘Okinawa black sugar cake’ which was featured recently in one of @theassemblyground ‘s Instagram post, I decided to give it a shot. The soft, fluffy sponge layers came sandwiched with Okinawa black sugar frosting and topped with crumbles, a pleasant tinge of honey-like natural sweetness that makes it a toothsome indulgence that wasn’t too heavy for the palate. The cream was smooth and light, providing a good balance to the sponge cake layers which could have been more moist, especially the base layer which was rather dry and firm .

Featured here is the chicken roulade (available only from 6-10 nov) that was also served along with homemade mash topped with sautéed veg and 2 thick slices of garlic toast that you can either choose to dip into the soup or consume in silo. Soup of the day was clam chowder which was thick, creamy and generously filled with chunks of carrots, potatoes and clams. The baguette slices were surprisingly great and additive, especially since I wasn’t a fan of this type of bread, I polished it all up 🤭. It was toasted to a crisp perfection, smeared with butter that carried off a lingering fragrance, a perfect compliment to the creamy soup! 👍🏻 Moving on to the mains, the chicken roulade comprised of minced mushroom enveloped within a tender and succulent chicken thigh meat that’s paired brown sauce. The homemade mash was smooth, creamy and buttery, topped with sautéed veg of carrots, long beans that added a pleasant crunch factor, the overall meal turned out to be one that’s satisfying and really filling as well! Was already full halfway throughout but still polished the entire portion off 🙈. The iced lemongrass cooler that I had chosen for the set meal was also a refreshing palate cleanser to end off the meal! ✨

The houjicha flavour was mild and barely detectable, with the bulk of flavours derived from cinnamon instead (which I am not a fan of 😕). Perhaps also due to the fact that I am a hardcore houjicha fan, but even my dining partner agreed that the houjicha flavour was really subtle and not distinct. This time round, the texture had more improvement though, after my previous experience with a dry one. The one I had here was more moist and fully soaked, a soft and pudding-like interior beneath a crisp, crusty danish-like flaky exterior that’s garnished with sprinkles of nuts. A vanilla ice cream was also served alongside, which I actually enjoyed it much more than the bread [email protected]😅. It was smooth, creamy and milky with a lingering fragrance and essence of vanilla (look at that black specks of vanilla pod 😍!). Nevertheless, for the anti-houjicha fans, this might be an ideal dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth and cravings.
[PS: Even though @vxx.co had ceased operations and would be relocating, the new outlet would still be serving drinks and some desserts too, from what I heard from them ☺️. ] Looking forward to their new dessert creations which hopefully... would be more impressive 😬. .

Why Sanum when u can get a twister at a lower pricing and with a greater proportion of froyo:toppings? 😌 With 4 flavours to choose from, 2 of the offerings are frozen yogurt whereas the other 2 are low fat ice cream (vanilla/ chocolate).Apart from the natural flavour, a weekly rotational flavour is also available for the frozen yogurt, with this week’s flavour being “Fruit of the forest” aka. Berries in short. The characteristic fruity sweetness of the assorted berries along with the tangy, sour note of the frozen yogurt was a refreshing perk-me-up indeed! ✨ But still, the natural flavour here remains my bias 💕. One thing that I fancied most here was the wide variety of unique and cool toppings available here that always left me spoilt for choice. Really wished that I can have them all at one seating🙈! This time, I decided to give the “crunch hazelnut” sauce (swipe to view) a shot, having tried before the cookies cream black and smorroch sauce previously. The nutty flavour was pretty much akin to that of peanut butter, with a pleasant crisp factor of crushed nuts embedded within the thick, creamy albeit gritty sauce. With the addition of sliced kiwis, strawberries, it was a certainly a berry fruit-ful indulgence that made my day! 💖 (pun intended 🙈) .

💖 An exclusive item by Chef Robert that isn’t available on the current menu, each french toast cubes are pan fried to a crisp, caramelised golden brown exterior, with peanut butter sandwiched within. A resemblance to a Hong Kong style French toast, which is also Chef Robert’s hometown! 😅 Drizzled with honey and served with a scoop of strawberry ice cream, the toast is soft, fluffy and pillowy with slightly crisp, crusty edges. Really love the combination with peanut butter that added a pleasant subtle lingering saltiness and a smooth, creamy and nutty texture and flavour 😋. Though I would have very much preferred vanilla ice cream instead of strawberry (not a fan of fruity flavours of 🍦), the French toast cubes alone were suffice to satisfy my sweet little tooth! 😆 [PS: This dish has yet to be named, feel free to provide any ideas / suggestions😉] .

The truffle aroma seemed to be more intense this time, which is definitely not for the faint hearted but as a truffle lover, I am sold for it! 💖 Despite the missing top layer of baked cheese crust, the macaroni bathed in the thick, creamy and cheesy pool of sauce was sufficient to get me hooked on, otherwise the aftermath might be one this is overwhelming and unpleasant. Though the price might seem steep (as compared to the other mains offered here), the portion served was justifiable and worth the bill. A copious amount of sliced mushrooms, seared scallops, garnished with fried shallots and a dollop of caviar, it was a perfect combination that I couldn’t help singing praises for. Especially adore the seared scallops that were fresh and plump, with a slight chewy mouthfeel. The addition of the fried shallots also provided a pleasant crisp factor while adding fragrance to the dish. Mushrooms are no doubt an essential (for me) in a mac&cheese, with its chewy mouthfeel and earthy note blending in harmoniously to the cheesy elements. On a side note, it’s really a great pity that @vxx.co would be ceasing operations on 7 nov and not serving mains anymore in their new location! 😭😭😭 Would certainly miss the food, ambience and service here ! .

The first fruit based flavour that was launched recently at @matchayasg , this was an ultimate limited edition flavour available for only a few days (yesterday was the last day unfortunately 😢). Glad to be able to rush down in time to try it yesterday before it was replaced with another new mystery flavour! 🙏🏻 No regrets as usual, with the softserve bearing a pleasant tinge of fruity sweetness of Kyoho grapes that was refreshing as well! Texture was also smooth, creamy and light - less dense than the usual tea flavours. It’s a great pity that the Brie cheese wasn’t available anymore when I went, was so looking forward to this unique combination of 🧀 +🍦... 😭 Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the softserve which was naturally and subtly sweet and refreshing to the palate! 💖 .

Unfortunately mains are only served till 5 nov, with the remaining 2 days retailing furnitures and brewing some cuppa ☕️. The smoked duck carbonara comprised of spaghetti tossed in a creamy sauce, along with copious chunks of smoked duck chopped into cubes , sliced mushrooms, topped with a raw yolk and sprinkled with garnishes of Parmesan flakes. Despite being a cream based pasta, the carbonara here was surprisingly not too overwhelming, with a substantial thick, creamy sauce that I felt would be manageable by one pax for consumption. The spaghetti was done to a slight al dente consistency, providing a pleasant firmness to the bite. The tender smoked duck slices were chopped into tiny little cubes which provided easier consumption. Along with chewy sliced mushrooms that added a subtle earthy note, the pasta was decent yet enjoyable with a good balance of noodles:ingredients as well as a suitable intensity of creaminess. .

As for the ice cream, @discoverthedark is well known for their varying chocolate flavours of different brands and % of cocoa. Having tried their signature 80% dark chocolate (which was really good and perfect for hardcore chocoholics),I decided to opt for another chocolate variation and chose 75% Single origin Tanzania, along with seasalt butterscotch. The ice cream were smooth, thick and creamy with the 75% Tanzania bearing a lingering fruity aftertaste amidst the robust, bittersweet cocoa flavour. On the other hand, the seasalt butterscotch had a subtle tinge of caramelised sweetness with a mild lingering salty aftertaste which could have been more distinct. A wide variety of toppings are available as well, ranging from caramelised almonds, chocolate granola (my pick!), dark chocolate shavings as well as sauces eg. salted caramel. On the downside, the characteristic nutty flavour of hazelnut was pretty mild in the waffle batter and perhaps overshadowed by the dark chocolate. Would have been great if the exterior was more crisp too! [PS: This dark chocolate hazelnut waffle flavour might only be available for a limited time! ]

🍡 Torched and flamed to a caramelised burnt exterior, the dango balls were a complementary pairing to the soy sauce based softserve, with its characteristic chewy, mochi texture and a subtle caramelised burnt flavour. The mitarashi softserve bears a striking resemblance to salted caramel, with a pleasant lingering saltiness which I personally would have preferred to be more intense. Saltiness > sweetness anytime for me😋! The addition of the kuromitsu sauce could have been omitted though as the sweetness got a tad overwhelming after awhile. If only there’s mitarashi sauce instead the combination would have been perfect! 🤤💖
