Affordable lunch near CBD. This came with a 4-mushroom-soup (recommended) or a salad with goma dressing.

The tiny granules of cous cous readily soaked up the sauces used in this this, so every spoonful was flavourful. The chicken was baked till crispy, but became a little dry. The way around this is to smear it with some of the green chilli, which is pretty spicy.

You may realise, this is actually cheaper than the stunning Terrarium dessert :)
Besttt laksa in sg. I like that its thick yet not gelat. And gravy is really smooth without all the hei bi. And there's no hum inside also. Only tau pok slices, shreds of chicken and fish cake. But sooo satisfying!
Creamy succulent pork ribs done with curry leaves. Sinfully good.!! Tried this dish at many other places, this is still the best. (Star Yong Kwang BBQ Seafood @ #01-04 )
I like Seng Heng's version of carrot cake (SGD 2.50 ) because the "homemade kueh" is so tender and moist and the eggs are fluffy and cooked just right . The carrot cake also doesn't leave a greasy feel. Be sure to ask for more Chilli to spice things up a bit . If you are looking for the crispy type of carrot cake , this wouldn't be it but there is just something comforting about this softer and fluffier version of carrot cake which I prefer.

If you are, I urge you to give Ma Bo Lor Mee a try.
๐
Where most Lor Mee's gravy tend to be overly thick and sticky, the gravy for Ma Bo's version is just slightly starchy and has a nice herbal flavor, more a soup than a gravy. It reminded me of a herbal braised duck soup and was so good that I drank most of it.
๐
Noodles also do not have the "Kee" (alkaline) taste which I dislike. Or if you prefer, you can also opt for Vermicelli. For my fried fish lor mee, it contained bean sprouts, delicious fried fish chunks (or Chinese style tempura) and half a tasty braised hard boiled egg.
๐
I ordered the small size lor mee at SGD 3 Nett and got a decent portion that filled me. (I had to highlight this because there are some places where the small size is only enough to fill my 5 year old nephew). And if you are feeling extra hungry, go for the large size one at only SGD 4 Nett.

There you have it, yummy and cheap hawker fare! You may have to self serve and brave the heat a little but you will get cheap and good food you can never have elsewhere.

NO REGRETS. For $7.50, you get fluffy fragrant rice, pretty tender tandoori chicken but the lucious palak gravy and dal were so outstanding, I could've easily drank a vat of it. ๐ they also do naan and chapati so it's definitely a place to revisit again (and again).
This pancake as compared to the other pancakes that I've tried, this is slightly thicker than the usual. I expected it to be spicy due to the kimchi, but it wasn't :( but overall, they are pretty generous with their sotongs and seafood:) so not too bad for $14.
