📍City Donut (McCallum Street)
- 72% Dark Chocolate Donut🍩

Nicely glazed dark chocolate soft fluffy donut, with chocolate filling!

Don’t really fancy donut and not a sweet tooth person, but this is actually quite acceptable (sweet definitely, good for sharing)…

Surprised that they serve beer (a bottle of Heineken) at $3, even cheaper than their coffee & tea🤣

📍Swee Choon Tim Dum Restaurant
- Mee-Suah Kueh🫔
- Siew Mai🍖
- Baked BBQ Pork Pastry🥧
- Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun🍞
- Chicken Claws🍗
- Glutinous Rice with Chicken🍘
- Shanghai Xiao Long Bao🥟
- Beancurd Prawn Roll🦐
- Red Bean Paste Pancake🥞

Haven’t been too fair to Swee Choon all these while as I have been subconsciously judging it as a supper standard dim sum (like it is the one ppl go for/ the one that’s available, during supper timing)...

🫔Mee-Suah Kueh
First time trying their mee-suah kueh and definitely will order this again! Well-cooked mee-suah (not mushy), stacked together in a rectangular shape and deep fried, savoury taste...

Quite an interesting dish eh, crispy surface and chewy texture like a kueh indeed, taste wise, initially tot it’s a going to be bland at the looks of it, but it was well seasoned, not too salty, in fact tasted a little like carrot cake!

Will order this again!

🍖Siew Mai
Siew Mai was quite juicy and solid (filled with the meaty prawn paste), absence of that unpleasant porky smell and bonus for seeing and tasting the fresh prawn bits in the siew mai itself.

Texture wise, bouncy kind, not just a chunk of meat, u know what I mean~ This was nice leh!

🥧Baked BBQ Pork Pastry
Like the buttery pastry, the bbq pork was not fatty, and tasted a little on a sweeter note, pretty decent.

🍞Salted Egg Yolk Custard Bun
Was expecting the bun to be steamed bun but I was wrong (fried bun), but nonetheless, this was still a decent salted egg yolk custard bun.

The salted egg yolk custard tasted both savoury and sweet (not too sweet), most imptly, it’s not greasy!

Ever tried salted egg yolk custard bun at some over-rated dim sum restaurant and I can see the oil in the custard filling (I can even scoop a spoonful of oil out) which left me disgusted even till now, since then, haven’t been keen to eat custard bun...

Now at least I like Swee Choon’s, quite decent!

🍗Chicken Claws
Used to be afraid of eating chicken claws for I think they look scary, but as times goes by, learnt how to appreciate it (full of collagen, aging already, in need for it).

The chicken claws tasted more towards the savoury side, braised to a point where the skin and bones can be separated in my mouth, not too oily, quite decent.

Just a note, probably eating by oneself was a bit too much, good for sharing.

🍘Glutinous Rice with Chicken
Find this quite normal, but I like the mushroom and big chunk of chicken meat, tasted similar to that of Khong Guan’s but less sweet.

🥟Shanghai Xiao Long Bao
Quite disappointed by this, no ginger and vinegar provided (we ordered delivery, not sure if they do provide when you dine in), the skin was a little thick and the filling wasn’t impressive.

Guess was spoiled at DTF xlb standard, this was a bit far from that.

🦐Beancurd Prawn Roll
Can skip this totally! Too oily, tasted the oil at first bite, regardless the filling was good or not, this was like a no-no, sorry, this one I cannot.

🥞Red Bean Paste Pancake
This was actually not bad, thin outer layer and not-so-sweet red bean paste, quite nice, just that perhaps we left it for a while before eating it, it wasn’t crispy, like so-so only.

Overall, hits and misses, but if I’m looking at dim sum at any time of the day, I wouldn’t mind trying SC’s...

Damage: $95.55 (excluding otah, tt’s from Jalan Kayu)

Craving for dim sum, Burpple Beyond one-for-one again!✌🏻⁣⁣

Prefer DTF’s xlb to this but this was still consider decent, can order kind...

If only the har gao’s skin can be a little thinner, that will be perfect...the shrimp inside was quite fresh...

The carrot cake was not bad actually, giving a hint of luh cheong taste, can try...

The fried fresh shrimp in beancurd skin was probably the best dish from what we have ordered, crispy skin with shrimp paste, not bad at all~

As for the pork pastry, erm, decent but not wow, in fact, the skin was like again, too thick, think can skip this...

The chee cheong fan also, like too thick again, but the sauce was not bad, and the shrimps were pretty fresh...

Lastly, the pu er to “neutralise” the oily jelak feel from the fried stuff...

⁣⁣Overall, for the one-for-one, quite decent and worth it, wouldn’t mind back to try other stuff...

Note: You need to get ready the exact amount to pay for the sweet potato, basically is grab and go...

Really disappointed by Tim Ho Wan (Plaza Sing)’s dishes...

The skin of the har-gow & chee cheong fan are just so thick, even those from Kopitiam/ hawker can win these easily...

The 3 pcs of siew mai just stick together like as if some frozen ones I can get from the supermarket and steam them together...

The fried rice are hard like as if the rice weren’t properly cooked before they fried it...

The char siew bao are a little too sweet n gelak...

As for the mini egg tarts, decent but not anything special...

To be honest, I don’t even know why there’s a queue...

I doubt I will go back again, I find it a waste of my calories intake and $...🙊

Damage: $47.32 (inclusive of svc charge & GST)

Got my hands on these bak kwa...✌🏻
吃一個過年氣氛~~~🤣

It’s time of the year and what’s CNY without bak kwa right or not~~~

Well, I wouldn’t expect bak kwa to be nice during CNY period for I think the stall would prepare the bak kwa in a hurry, resulting in poor quality control...

But I was wrong this year (at least for the ones I got), the bak kwa is tender and sweet, don’t worry abt the “pork smell”, there isn’t any, really like!🤤

Compare to Bee Cheng Hiang, I find LCG’s more tender and less sweet, better for the folks (牙口不好 沒問題)...😅

Compare to Fragrance (Xiang Wei), I prefer LCG’s for the “pork smell” is less noticeable or not noticeable at all...😋

Damage: $29 per 500g

Note: Super duper long queue this period, and do check out their FB page for updates of their stock, they went out of stock by noon that day...

Jiak loti lim kopi at Keong Saik Bakery~~~🍞🥐🥖

Love the kopi susu (with fresh milk instead of condensed milk), taste just like latte!☕️🍼

On top of that, what makes it even more lovable is the price!!! I really don't know where to find a cup of latte at the price of $2.80 (like if you know, please tell me 🤣)...

The kopi'o (with sugar but not too sweet) is nice too! It's like in between espresso and americano, but at a super pocket friendly price ($1.60)!

Personally like the matcha salted egg lava bun (Green Egg Bun), looking at the matcha salted egg lava oozing out, so pleasing (療癒) can~~~

The kaya toast is equally nice, not too sweet and with the thick sliced butter, what a combi!

As for the Chocolate Chip Rye, a little harder than I've expected, nice but can be better...

Sadly, the "梳起" is not available this afternoon when I was there, but I will definitely be back again!

Damage: $12.60 (Kopi susu + kopi'o + kaya toast + green egg bun + chocolate chip rye)

Pablo's baked cheese tart!!!🧀
AWESOME CAN!!!😋

This is really awesome! The "medium rare" cheese didn't ooze out but tasty and soft enough~~~ The crust is also thin and nice... There's a yellow layer on top of the cheese tart which taste a little sour but not too sour, making you feel like having more and not "jelak" from the cheese...

Omg, can I have the whole cheesetart to myself???

Damage: $15 (whole cheese tart, only for take away only)

Wife Biscuit 老婆餅 from April's Bakery:
- Custard Pie
- Black Sesame Pie
- Red Bean Pie

Damage: $2 each

Don't expect it to be your usual wife biscuit...Had the red bean pie and find it normal only, though the coating is thin and the red bean paste filling is really thick and not too sweet, it doesn't surprise me much...hmm...

Worth a try but if you were to ask me to queue for this, probably not...
