Quite an interesting yet convenient way of eating. Had soba, kimchi, seasoned seaweed, sesame and tangy onion dressing in my bag of doodles!

I bought the sweet potato and yam buns, and I am very, very happy with both.
Buns were soft, fluffy and had good elasticity while the filling was so generous that it threatened to spill out of the bun when I sliced it in half. It's not often you find something both the young and old will like- in addition to it being colourful (so picture worthy for young folks), the older generation will be heartened to know that the buns are naturally coloured- in this case green tea for green and charcoal for black.
If you're having it there, definitely ask for the hot ones by the counter- it'll make a world of difference! If you're taking it away, the guy said it's good stored in the chiller up to 3 days & steamed for 10 minutes. I can attest to that- I had them on the very third day because I like to test my limits, jk.

The man behind this stall at Bedok Marketplace has earned his chops baking his way around the world, with stints in countries like New Zealand, New York City and Iceland. The latter was where he was exposed to the craft of sourdough breads and that's what he now specialises in here. Expect options along the likes of gorgeous loaves, sandwiches, tartines and soughdough pizza. We like how this young baker isn't afraid to get creative! The Cranberry Turmeric ($3 for a 250g loaf) boasts a soft-ish crust that isn't too overpoweringly flavoured while the open-faced Smørrebrød ($3.50) comes topped with salami, cornichons and cracked black pepper. The rye bread base (called rugbrød) is crisp on the outside yet moist within, and comes speckled with lots of nuts and seeds. Enjoy this for a light lunch, and then grab a couple of loaves to take home with you.

Owned by the guys who run the motorcycle workshop next door, this Eastside motorbike-themed cafe near Telok Kurau serves up an all-rounded menu of feel-good food — Asian, Western and everything in between. While inspired by bikers, the cafe offers plenty of classics to keep the rest of the public happy. File this away for eclectic gatherings — prices are reasonable, and there's likely to be something for everybody, be it Thai Roasted Beef Salad ($6), Peking Duck Pizza ($9) or Spaghetti Bolognaise ($8). Burppler Dex Neo was particularly impressed with the Fish N Potato Chips ($13), which sees lightly breaded cod fillets (so crisp yet juicy!) served with housemade potato chips and tartar sauce. For dessert, try the Red Wine Poached Pear ($8), which Burpple Tastemaker Xing Wei Chua describes to be tender and juicy with an alcoholic kick. Yum!

Helping put industrial Tai Seng onto foodie radars is this cosy cafe at The Commerze @ Irving. The food here isn't fancy, but there is a homely charm to the place, and the food is hearty and affordable. Savoury plates include the Chilli Crabby Pasta ($14.80), slicked in chilli crab sauce and served with crispy soft shell crab; the generously portioned Chicken Confit Lost a Leg ($13.80) with mash, a sunny side up and salad, and the Lion Prawn Mala Mee Kia ($13.80) that sees capellini and tiger prawns tossed with chilli padi, Szechuan pepper and prawn roe — tasty, but not kid-friendly! Consider sharing the starter of Homemade Western Style Pork Belly ($7.50) with tender meat and crispy crackling. They also offer some pretty interesting bakes like the Wolfberry & Osmanthus Cheesecake ($4.80), where the humble cheesecake is enlivened with a floral jelly topping. There are hits and misses food-wise, but we are confident they will soon settle into their groove. Pro tip: Visit for lunch and add on $4 for their lunch set, which gets you a soft drink and a cake or tart with your order.
