This place won't ever get ticked off my cravings list cause as soon as I leave, I'm looking forward to the next visit. Had the usual favourites: siew mai (all day errday), rice flour roll and shrimp in fried beancurd skin.
It took me a while to choose between wantan mee or chicken mushroom noodle for my main course. Glad I went with the latter. It came with a delicious and subtly herbal black soup. The side of crushed chilli oil was also damn shiok! We dipped all our dim sum in that chilli - the other sauces just weren't as good.
The Dim Sum Place currently has the nicest setting to enjoy halal dim sum. It does feel cramped as the tables on your left and right are so close to you and everyone is trying to talk over the noise. I hope that one day we can have a full-fledged dim sum restaurant where we can sit, eat and talk comfortably for hours. See Kuala Lumpur's Dolly Dim Sum for reference - their table ware and dining space is absolutely gorgeous. Still, I'm impressed by how fresh the dim sum here tastes and I can't wait to try everything else on the menu.
H ordered her favourite salted egg custard pau. Salted egg is really not my thing. I tried to tear off a bit of the pau and avoid the filling, but it was quite impossible because of the molten custard. It's a nice size because some paus are big and fill you up too fast. H agreed that it's a good size, but she says the salted egg flavour could have been stronger.
I regret not ordering more of these. Seems like the dim sum here has a freshness that's lacking from other places. I usually eat my siew mai together with rice or congee, but this was so good on its own. The sauce given is something like a sweet chilli mixed with chilli oil, though I prefer a sambal type of dip.
The best rice flour rolls I've ever had. We got a plain one first, to see if the rolls are legit before trying the others with fillings. They're light and fresh, perfect with the soy sauce and sesame seeds. I might stick to this plain one cuz it's so darn good.
Ahh doesn't this look so good?! Chinese fried rice always looks appetising to me. This Garlic Egg Fried Rice was great to have with the rest of the dim sum. It's not clear in this pic, but there's lots of dark brown, crunchy bits of garlic in the rice.
This is available in regular, spicy and extra spicy. We chose 'spicy' but I don't think we were given the right one. Unless we're supposed to mix in the sambal ourselves? But that's kinda strange...
