After a long, tiring day/week, finally visited the Bee’s Knees at The Garage! I love discovering food places I’ve yet to try. So, was the food the bee’s knees?
Beef Cheek Bolognese [$21++]: Pappardelle, braised beef cheek, tomato, basil, parmesan.
The pasta was kind of like lasagna sheets but a long, thin version. Couldn’t taste the basil. The beef cheek was not much and not amazing. Price a little steep for what it is but at least the pasta tasted okay and was al dente.
The Veggie Goat [$17++]:
Quinoa, goat cheese, baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, beetroot, roasted nuts, pumpkin, balsamico.
Shared this vegetarian salad with my friend. There was lots of quinoa. I didn’t find any pumpkin strangely! Nothing much to shout about the salad. It seemed quite plain and unvarnished to me, like an assembled mish mash of ingredients rather than a proper salad. Maybe I should have put the balsamico on it.
Peanut Butter Cheesecake [$7++]:
Peanut butter cream cheese, digestive biscuit.
I thought peanut butter and cheesecake was a weird combination but it surprisingly worked pretty well. It was not bad but again the price is a little steep for not that big a slice of cake. Could taste the digestive biscuit in the cheesecake base.
While the food is alright, it is a little on the expensive side and wasn’t so amazing that the food itself would necessarily bring me back or inspire any cravings. The food is decent and the place is fuss-free and it isn’t that difficult to get attention from the waitstaff which I appreciate.
The ambience here is really nice, with the twinkling fairy lights on the trees and outdoor umbrellas, this would be a great place for celebrations or just catching up with friends you haven’t seen in a while! A nice place for al fresco dining, I imagine an early breakfast/brunch here would be lovely. Whenever I’ve walked past I’ve always seen patrons dining - note this is a dog-friendly restaurant within the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and it’s within walking distance from Botanic Gardens MRT station. Didn’t have reservations on a Sunday night and it wasn’t a problem! PS. They have a day menu and a night menu too and $25++ for 2 cocktails.
Brotherbird Coffeehouse just reopened yesterday at 32 Bali Lane!
Ordered this pasta and the customer next to me saw me eating this and ordered the same thing 😂 I found there was quite a lot of pieces of pork fat in this dish and bits of carrot. Quite an ordinary dish, a little on the expensive side for what it is!

Finally tried the fish and chips at Smiths. Shared it with my mum. It was alright. The place had lots of customers and flying pigeons looking for food. The portions here is huge. Food took maybe 15-20 min to arrive. The cod was nice and soft. I found the batter a bit meh and not amazing... It kept falling off the fish. And wasn’t really seasoned. Hence the salt and vinegar on the table. The white haired owner also came to clean the table before the meal.
I prefer the fish and chips at PS. Cafe (but that’s like more than $40 with truffle fries.)

Finally got a table today at this Moroccan cafe after queuing for 1 and a half hours. Was kind of disappointed at the start when we were seated as the area around the first table we were given smelled like pee :( This was our THIRD attempt to queue for Bacha Coffee btw. They’re always fully booked and the lines are always snaking even in the morning. We started queuing at ten something in the morning and there were like ten groups of people in front of us 🤪
This Pandan Cheesecake was the highlight of my brunch ✨
It really tastes like a pandan cheesecake, with its super fragrant and strong pandan aroma and an incredibly dense and rich cheesecake.
The dessert came beautifully wrapped in a pandan leaf too!
The best part was probably the light, fresh and crunchy biscuit base which really complemented the soft, creamy cheesecake. This fusion dessert really reminded me of our local kueh actually. There was also a mild pistachio flavour to the cake as well.
In terms of portion size, it may look small but it’s actually so filling which makes it perfect for sharing! I highly recommend ordering this if you’re at Bacha Coffee.
I love this collab dessert between Shake Shack and Ms Kueh! Very citrusy, full of orange zest and orange rind, featuring the Eurasian sugee cake. A refreshing and light vanilla custard dessert. Highly recommend!
The two exclusive desserts to Shake Shack Vivo City. A must try when you visit.
