Peranakan
This was recommended by our server. And yes this was the best dish that night. Since my friend was keen on another vege dish, we went for it thou the price was on the high side. We found out why when it arrived. There were a few big pcs of purple sweet potato looking things (I didn’t eat them so not sure) and prawns. The prawns were really fresh and sweet. And of cos got Kang kong. Very fresh not tough. The best part was the gravy. So Lemak, slightly spicy and sweet, yet savory. It was soooo good. I flooded my rice with it and dipped everything I could in it. I even drank it like soup when I ran out of ingredients to pair it with. Highly recommended.
This dish had very good gravy. Again, like the ayam buah keluak, it also had 3 pcs inside. Not sure if it was the norm or they saw that we were a party of 3. The meat was on the tough side and a bit small, but flavor was very good.
This was a well executed dish. Beany taste was not overwhelming and seasoning was just right. A good sized portion. Ingredients used were fresh. I liked this.
There were exactly 3 pcs of chicken inside. And 3 pcs of buah keluak. Each nut had a hole where you could use your fork to scrap out the black chocolate inside. I thot that was really considerate. First time I tasted buah keluak paste. It was an acquired taste. This dish was quite good. The gravy was delicious. I wished the portion was bigger.
This was ok only. Quite average. But it wasn’t bad, just that I’ve had better. The dipping sauce was not very strongly flavored, so in the end I abandoned it and used the Sambal belacan and gravy from the Kang kong Lemak.
Two pcs of otak otak on the plate. Size was not very big but the flavor was awesome. Pretty spicy. I really enjoyed this.
There were 3 types of soups on the menu but only this was available. Cos the other 2 required advanced order. This soup was a very small bowl but the soup tasted refreshing and light. Ideal to cleanse the palate cos the other dishes I ordered were the strong flavored kind. The crab and chicken meat balls were lovely. Nice and chewy and lightly seasoned.
Small little saucer of volcano level Sambal belacan chili paste. Very spicy so consume at your own risk. We ordered white rice as well, which cost $3.50 each bowl.
We didn’t order this. It was placed on our table like the salted peanuts at Chinese restaurants when they came to take our orders. Along with the prawn crackers. Unlike the salted peanuts, it didn’t cost $2. I was shocked when I saw the bill. But it tasted good. They used cashew nuts instead of peanuts. Pretty salty. Wished the ikan bilis were crispier.
We didn’t order this. It was placed on our table like the salted peanuts at Chinese restaurants when they came to take our orders. Very ordinary prawn crackers. Quite crispy.
I really recommend this hot tea. Made of dried longans and red dates. Rich deep flavors made me feel that they didn’t scrimp on the ingredients. Not sweet at all. Felt very nourishing. They kept topping up the tea pot. The tea cup was a bit weird. Very difficult to hold. Be careful not to drop it.
Sour and refreshing cold lime juice. Quite a big glass.
