While we appreciated the comforting collagen broth, I thought the floury taste of the mee sua overpowered more than I would like. Would be nice for the broth to come in a slight bigger portion and pack a bit more of a distinct oomph to balance it out.

Though the slices of grilled sourdough were more burnt than I would have liked, I enjoyed the crisp crust and its sweet tang. The pistachio butter was a great addition - smooth, fragrant and sufficiently roasty.

Had dinner at the newly opened Baste restaurant on Ann Siang Road! Helmed by Chef Chris of Hay Gelato and former restaurant Brine, the menu features Asian-style tapas with unique twists. The warm service and intimate dinner vibes were on point, albeit a mix of hits and slight misses for food.

One of our table’s favourites was this sous vide trout layered with pumpkin and shrimp emulsion, chopped salted egg, and topped with sea grapes, caviar and ikura. This leaned on the saltier side. I did think it was missing a little bit of a crunch to tie it all together, but the pumpkin element complemented especially nicely. Trout was also fresh and tender. Portion wise though, could be slightly bigger at this price tag.

On Monday to Fridays, 12pm to 3pm, Ash & Elm has this semi-buffet concept which includes all-you-can-eat appetisers and desserts. We got our vouchers at more than half price off during the recent Chope Online Fest and finally dropped by to try. Our favorites were the cold cuts and 3 types of cheeses, while the other options were hits and misses. Most appetisers that day were cold ones, but it would have been nicer if there was a better balance of hot dishes. The dessert section was not bad, with the best part being their range of creamy ice cream! Overall a decent experience but this one try was sufficient for us.

Original price of this semi-buffet is $28 but it’s going at 20% off on Chope. There’s also an option of upgrading it to include a main to go along or to opt for their Saturday Buffet/Sunday Champagne Brunch.

MU’s MUnster Platter is a huge board of meats that feeds 3-4 pax - grilled beef, lamb rack, roasted chicken, duck breast, pork, cheese sausage, baby potatoes, roasted vegetables and sauces. There’s also a platter for 2 at $78 that comes without beef. To be honest I thought the grilled vegetables were my favourite parts of the platter, though I also liked the tender roasted chicken with its concentrated mushroom sauce topping.

French scallops with cauliflower purée and green apples! The scallops were fresh and seared just right, with a light char on the outside but still holding that soft interior. Didn’t think the purée did justice as a pairing to the scallops but the green apples were a refreshing touch.

MU’s risottos and pastas here work a little differently - they are fully customisable from the base to the toppings! The standard risotto/pasta (linguine or spaghetti) starts at $14 for tomato or aglio olio and a top up of $6 for black ink or truffle cream. Toppings vary as well, its +$5 for veg, chicken breast or vongole, $6 for crayfish or bacon, $8 for duck breast and $12 for scallops or uni.

This Crayfish Truffle Cream Risotto was probably the star of our night. The truffle flavours were balanced well without being overwhelming and the seared crayfish chunks were succulent.

I love fresh, warm and fluffy breads and this bread basket was great. There was an assortment of bread sticks with chilli flakes, bread with rosemary and plain ones - all freshly baked in-house daily. The unassuming plain bread were the ones I went for first and my fav! They were sooooo soft and were stellar on its own even without any butter or additional spreads.

So happy that the soup of the day for us was mushroom soup, made from a blend of button and shiitake mushrooms. I always have a soft spot for freshly made mushroom soups - especially when it’s so flavorful and earthy + you still get bits of mushrooms! It wasn’t too thick nor creamy so it wasn’t jelak. Thanks for letting me finish the big portion too friends 😂

Could have easily wiped this bowl clean - fresh veg, roasted bacon, garlic croutons, Parmesan cheese and slices of smoked chicken tossed in District 10’s house made dressing. Refreshing and addictive!
