Shi Li Fang's a strong contender in the hotpot market. With Singapore already seeing an influx of so many hotpot places, they have carved their niche with their offering of individual hotpot sets and cheap prices (~$20/pax). Choose from over 20 dipping sauces (they're FOC, @haidilao_singapore take a hint), 8 soup bases and a variety of meat choices. I particularly liked their Tonic Chicken Soup with it's wholesome taste compelling me to take sip after sip. Popular meat choices include the Superior Marbled Pork Slice and Japanese Kurobuta Pork. Don't expect mouthgasms that you'd get at other premium hotpot places - you get what you pay for over here. Nevertheless, Shi Li Fang remains a good option to get your hotpot cravings satisfied without breaking the bank. Only if you can forgive the restaurant's tacky interior though.

They have a selection of healthy-sounding broth bases (elderly tonic or male vitality anyone?), with a very commendable array of quality ingredients, available for their dinner buffet at just $25.90/$27.90 They might not have someone to fling noodles at your face here, but you should be entertained with the all-you-can-eat XLBs (I stopped counting after 15).

Though cheaper than its prestigious cousin, the ingredients certainly aren’t that far off in terms of quality (the beef and black pork were delectable). Compared to HDL’s clean and lighter tasting chicken soup, the one here is sweeter with slight herbal undertones (which admittedly feels more flavourful than HDL’s). People who are tired of hour-long waits at HDL should rejoice, for this is a very capable substitute—and it might just convert less picky HDL patrons.

They offer a straightforward selection of beef, chicken, mutton and seafood—relatively fuss-free, and nothing extraordinary. They don’t have a lot to show for their desserts, but remember to save space for their delicious durian purée which was thick, creamy and not overly sweet (I had 15 glasses of it). @mhotelsingapore

[Clarke Quay] Every time I come here, I am reminded of how I should have paid more attention during Chinese lessons back then. Make no mistake-this place is expensive; but with delicious soup bases, fresh ingredients, and impeccable service, it is definitely worth visiting once in a while.
