Fusion Food!! ๐ช๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฅช๐ฅ
Previously called โHainanese Donburiโ, this lil pop-up sells Chinese-style dons (I.e.: Japanese rice bowls)! The sauce just tasted mildly of salted egg, going well with the chicken cutlet. Sous vide egg was truly well done - it had an oozy molten yolk which spread slowly over the bed of rice ๐ Cereal bits were a nice touch, adding some sweetness to the overall taste!
My only complaint would be the rice: overly moist and densely packed, like some angry chef packed the rice with all his might. Also, itโs a pity this comes in a takeout box though, Iโm sure this dish (especially the katsu and egg) would taste much better when served hot!
I assumed this gimmicky 80g pokebowl would be a tiny appetizer, a sneak peek of sorts into their REAL menu. So I was pleasantly surprised to receive this large bowl filled to the brim with a colorful assortment of healthy bits and bobs!
Except for the salad base (actually was the salad base cold too?? I canโt remember oops), everything came chilled and fresh; veggies were crunchy and well-seasoned tuna cubes were springy to the touch! Upon mixing it all together, I can honestly say this delightful bowl isnโt simply a sum of its parts. All these healthfoods mesh well together, creating an incredibly savoury flavor burst that still manages to refresh oneโs palate ๐
Their wide array of condiments is also rather impressive - I went wild on the avocado miso, dripping this thick condiment all over!! Next time, itโll be the garlic sesame mayo...๐
An interesting mod-sin concept, with kong ba pao filled with different types of non-traditional meat that still manages to pay homage to traditional Asian cuisine. Our favourite was the signature pulled pork bao: the tender strips of meat coated in thick dressing was bursting with the flavour of stewed pork! The accompanying achar salad was a nice touch, providing a tangy refreshing feeling which cut through the thickness of the meat. I personally enjoyed the spicy beef as well as its tenderness was comparable to the pork...though the accompanying greens were less flavorful.
Sadly, the tempura fish bao was a miss...it came in one sad small piece, hidden betwixt the folds of the fluffy bao. Sauce was pretty bland, overwhelmed by the fried tempura. Itโs neither avocado nor wasabi...so what is this green sauce?!? Iโm still trying to figure it out. ๐
