MY: Japanese
Not as good as the Bara chirashi from Ichiro Sushi Bar and Shoya Sushi Bar, but decent! This is from their lunch set and I had the miso soup and chawanmushi set for an extra RM7.
Interior is lovely, with Japanese indie music in the background and sunlight coming through. I got the mild and basic Hokkaido soup curry. Love the assortment of vegetables - eggplant, carrot, pumpkin, bell pepper and lady finger. The soup leans towards a more savoury curry taste. There are options to add protein like chicken drumstick and shrimp as well. Will come back to try their Japanese curry next time!
Newly opened in Gardens, is my favourite poke restaurant - The Fish Bowl. The quality here is consistent with other branches as well šš» Still a good olā poke bowl with customisable ingredients and toppings.
Newly opened tonkatsu restaurant at Jās Gate Dining Lot 10. Available for a limited time only - Tonkatsu 3 ways: Pork loin, pork fillet and a minced pork fillet. Refillable cabbage, soup, tea and rice. Not as good as Tonkatsu Anzu on the same floor but definitely a more affordable option! The tonkatsu is still really good though. We also tried the fish, shrimp and chicken set for 2 for the same price, I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken.
This beauty is the matcha burnt cheesecake with whipped cream, matcha sourced from Niko Neko. Texture is not as soft as their normal burnt cheesecake probably due to the additional matcha powder ingredient, but the taste is very matcha rich and thatās all you can taste, which isnāt a bad thing! Still prefer their normal cheesecake but this still bomb.
The traditional definition of ramen takes a twist in Super Ramen. Thereās a variety of different noodle/rice bowls in their menu and some with influences from local delicacies like laksa. The Pork Broth Ramen with tomahawk (RM29) is what I came here for. The tomahawk is very surprisingly tender, the meat wasnāt tough at all. But it was heavily seasoned with Cajun seasoning which didnāt blend well with the Japanese tonkatsu ramen. The tomahawk was huge though, so you might want to share that with a friend. The ramen itself was decent, but didnāt stand out to me. The yuzu and passion fruit (RM13) drink was refreshing.
First Malaysian branch of many Saboten branches around the world. Decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed. While the fatty pork loin was slightly tougher than desired, it was still pretty good. Panko breadcrumbs were crunchy and deep fried to perfection. Comes with tea, cabbage and miso soup. Anzu is still my best bet for tonkatsu, but Saboten is also a suitable, more affordable option.
Well marinated sliced pork with Japanese leeks and onsen tamago. Always delicious and the quality is consistent every time I come here.
The ox tongue was stir fried with chili, garlic and marinated with mirin. Enjoyed the chewy texture and the right amount of heat from the chili!
Unfortunately RM9 doesnāt justify the portion. While the gizzards with a sweet honey soy flavour was delicious, paired perfectly with a squeeze of lemon and had the right chewiness, it couldāve been bigger.
Love this bowl of seafood goodness! Seared yellowtail fin fish, salmon, scallops and salmon roe on a bed of vinegar rice. Even the wasabi tasted freshly grated and went so well with the dish.
Oh this was so good. Aburi salmon on top and INSIDE the sushi! Couldnāt get enough of this.
