Chicken cutlet noodles (one of the mains that comes with the $10.90/pax lunch set)Chicken cutlet was crispy and the batter was very tasty, tastes like popcorn chicken.
Noodles looked plain but it was so good!!! It was covered in pork lard oil and it tastes so good.

Worth the try.

Taking over Jimoto Ya’s space along Pickering Street, Mister Wu sells a variety of affordable la mian and rice bowls that’s sure to appeal to the lunch crowd. My favourite was Mr. Su’s Dry La Mian that came with a side of dong po pork that was tender and had just the right about of fat. The noodles was QQ and came slicked in a tasty but not too salty sauce. It also came sprinkled with a fragrant hae bi topping. We also topped up $4 for the set where you get to pick a side dish and one of their many teas, making this a value-for-money meal in a nice, comfortable setting.

Other than the specialty prawn paste chicken ($10), this off-menu item is not to be missed. Blanched egg noodles tossed in pork lard and oyster sauce, topped with a thick and silky omelette and bouncy shrimps - it's just the regular zi char ingredients but soooo good. It's true when they say the simpler the dish, the harder to cook it well, and I'm glad this is a positive example of a simple dish done perfectly. Flavour checked, wok hei checked, texture checked, price (to be shared among 3-4) checked. 👍

Really like the concept of reinvigorating old school favourites in modernized settings. The signature dish at this new establishment at Chinatown Point is old school 豉油雞拉麵 (soy braised chicken) which is a classic Cantonese chicken dish usually served with rice or egg noodle, rebranded as ramen; reintroduced onsen egg, leek and a sheet of seaweed, which are key ingredients of shoyu ramen; reconstructed to turn the soy sauce into a robust yet true to the flavour broth. What also stayed true to its origin is the flavours of the chicken which is savoury and fragrant from the rose wine; and the texture is succulent and tender - I am so glad it did stay that wet, otherwise someone down the years will be saying the soy chicken are not crispy enough.

They are back at Chinatown Pt, helmed by 3rd gen Hawkers Joseph and James.
Am pretty sure a queue will form, after this.
Anyway, let me know if there are other good Soy Sauce Chicken in Singapore, other than the usual suspects. Haha.

Was looking thru Burpple guides Zi Char places and decided to try the big prawn hor fun at this old school coffeeshop. Prawns were fresh, hor fun full of wok hei taste and the gravy makes its even more shiok!

Fueling my night, Yong He Eating House’s Saltish Beancurd ($2.50) might not be mind-blowing but a bowl of that slurpy goodness certainly curbs any other late-night food cravings. Plain on its own, the topping of savoury stewed minced meat, pickled vegetables and spring onions does bring about a different experience when compared to the traditional variation - in both flavour and texture. Served warm, the soft curd also glides easily down the throat and even without the syrup carries a subtle sweetness.

The sauce! Oh my goodness! The drumstick meat is so smooth, soft and juicy. The other duck meat parts are not bad too. The sauce really gives the duck meat its juiciness and brings out the tastiness of the duck meat. Portion still seem a bit small for two person to share as there are quite a bit of bones. Overall a great dish and I will come back again to try this and other meat dishes. Tip: their roast meat rice dishes are only available from 11am to 5pm. So do pop by for lunch for a better deal as their single bowl of rice is $2!

Ordered whatever is in the picture above. Didn't feel fresh, felt like everything was frozen before. $16 bucks in total for everything - so I guess it was still worth the money, just not too worth the calories. Heehee

Like a fried carrot cake but made with fried vermicelli, it had an appealing texture from the strands of soft Mee Suah, crispy outside and bouncy within.
Spanning over 4 shop spaces, the crowd at Swee Choon was consistent from dinner to supper hours, there to enjoy their wide range of Shanghai and HK Dim Sum.

Located in the heart of Chinatown and just a two-minute walk from Chinatown MRT Station, this four-storey restaurant is perfect for accommodating the whole extended family for a meal. Prices are affordable, portions are big and flavours are consistently good. Follow Burpple Tastemaker Felicia Sim's lead and order the Roasted Peking Duck ($58) to share. After savouring the beautifully lacquered skin, the remaining meat can be cooked with either rice or noodles as the main (she does not recommend frying the duck meat with salt and pepper as it loses its sweetness). If you can stomach more, the gravy-slicked Lala Beehoon (from $28) is worth a try, or get their signature Popiah ($7.50) to share. It is a massive pillow stuffed full with ingredients that make it well worth every penny. End the meal with the crowd favourite Yam Paste with Gingko Nut (from $26).
Avg Price: $30 per person
