The beauty about this burger is in its simplicity. Potato bun, beef patty, shack sauce, lettuce, tomato, cheese. Nothing elaborate, no bells and whistles. But it just works so well. The bun is soft, and gives the burger its structural integrity because it has a "joint" which connects both ends of the burger together (I am glad they retained this from their US counterparts). The beef patty had the right amount of fattiness/saltiness which complements its beefiness, I ordered a double and it was a treat coating my mouth with richness. The shack sauce ties the cheese and veges together, it does not have the tang like a Big Mac does, nor does it overpower everything else, it gladly sits behind and acts as the glue which brings the various components together. I would gladly come again to have my fix for every occassion I crave a good burger. It is a cut above the average, and stands solidly in its place. I just need to brave the 1.5hr long queue. 🔸

Their bagels have a bath in honey water before they are baked, giving a subtle sweetness. The bagels have a wonderful chewy texture, the hallmark of a freshly made bagel is its elasticity as you bite and chew on it. Aside from their bagels, they are generous with their fillers, offering very good quality meats and sauces to complement the bagels. I had their Sriracha, a fragrant cajun spiced roasted chicken topped with chilli aioli, bacon and rocket leaves), it was smoky and rich. Be prepared with your napkins, every bite is a beautiful mess. I like that. With bagels these good, with generous fillings and sauce, expect your lips to be lathered with its richness. Have a laugh with your friends with every bite. I'm determined to try many more of their bagels in the coming months ahead!

I remember having these in my younger days. The sauce is important to get right. I was brought back on a trail of nostalgia with Teo Kee! The meat was very tasty from the dark sauce it was braising in for hours, and was falling off the bone! Wonderful balance of caramel sweetness and herbs. The chicken feet was great too, the skin was soft and gelatinous, falling off the bone. The sauce is different to that of the pork ribs, and had a little more of the "Tang Gui" angelica root aroma. This store has done it so well! The noodles were nothing to rave about, but it served as a platform for these wonderful pork ribs and chicken feet! Will come again!

The Fennel had a lovely smoky flavour due to the burnt edges (it was engulfed in flames during cooking process), and had a good balance of tenderness and crunch. The Burrata cheese provided a velvet milky creaminess to the flavour profile, with the orange (oil extract?) brightens the dish and lifts the heaviness with a dash of citrus. 🔸

Having been on the waiting list for 3 months, being able to sit at the table of Burnt Ends is not without much anticipation and expectation. This experience has re-kindled my love for all things BBQ. The tenderloin was perfectly done, with a beautiful rich char on the outside. The brown onion sauce and marrow gave a buttery richness to the meat. This is steak done right, will come again!

The ice cream was very rich, you can tell they added a generous helping of Matcha into the ice cream, you will notice a slight rich "powdery-ness" which contributes to the thickness of the ice cream, but not to the point where the ice cream becomes gritty. The grilled Shiratama is wonderful! A simple sugar glaze on each is blow torched so every bite and chew has a lovely caramel flavour. Matchaya will be my go to place for my Matcha fix! They have quite a good variety too!

The monsoon season in SG, while gloomy, presents itself a hidden blessing, crab spawning season (Dec to Mar). Which means for all you crab and crab roe lovers, you get the most succulent and tasty crabs available. Many would be familiar with the chilli and black pepper renditions in SG, but I urge you to try this white pepper version by JB Ah Meng. The firm & sweet crab meat, rich & creamy crab roe, lathered with a beautiful pepper sauce is among the best I've had. The garnish elevates this dish to a whole new level; the spring onion, garland chrysanthemum (the locals call it Tang Oh), and coriander provides a fresh herbacious balance to the savoury richness. Check this dish out while the crab season is here! 🔸

There is little that comes between me and a good plate of Nasi Lemak. Such a simple looking dish, delivers such a complexity of flavours. It is also very hard to prepare this well. This plate of nasi lemak from Village Park in PJ Kuala Lumpur is by far one of the best I've had. Huge attention goes to that gorgeous piece of fried chicken, which is so incredibly seasoned (aromatics such as lemon grass?) and crispy. These people have perfected it!

Ang Ku Kueh!

Lots of exotic flavours including Milo. Interesting choices. Skin has a nice chewy firmness, but I prefer a more delicate texture. They were a bit too generous with the bean filling (good problem to have), but it made the kueh too heavy-going. Still, plus points for the flavour variety! Worth a try.

Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh (Rangoon Road)

Wonderfully balanced BKT, if you like a punch of pepper in your BKT, this is the place. The condiments and side dishes around this humble bowl of BKT is what makes this place so good. The pork skin is gelatinous and has a wonderful soft bite, the large intestines are lovely braised, and the preserved vegetables have a wonderful sweetness which compliments the savoury flavours of the meat. Highly recommended for those who love local SG BKT! This place has a rich history, and is well-managed so you can expect consistency in their dishes and service.
